Two months ago, the Center askedwomen for suggestions to energize itsexisting Womens Wednesdays program sothat we could make changes that wouldbest suit LGBT womens lifestyles andinterests. Always listening to memberfeedback to improve programming, theCenter is thrilled by recent changes sug-gested by program participants and bythe growth in Womens Wednesdays!

Right from the start, participants agreedthat they would love to take part in fungroup activities, listen to interestingspeakers, and even stop by for a casualpotluck dinner. In fact, one participantexclaimed about the idea of a potluck,You know, we love to cook! The groupunanimously suggested changing the

existing 10:30 AM scheduled meetingtime and, instead, starting the grouplater so that more women age 50 andover could participate.

In recent months, Senior ProgramsCoordinator Ed Miller has built relation-ships with program participants, in par-ticular several women hoping to helpgrow Womens Wednesdays. One

Womens Wednesdays attendee is retiredand lives in Philadelphia. As a result, coming to the Center for activities iseasy, accessible, and convenient. Forher, [the Center] is centrally located. Itake one bus, and Im here! She alsomentioned that, rather than socializethrough Philadelphias nightlife, shelooks for options aside from typical set-tings like bars. With options likeWomens Wednesdays, she has an oppor-tunity to meet other LGBT women whoshare her interests and perspective. After hearing feedback from participantslike this, Coordinator Ed Miller said, Ihave my marching orders and look for-ward to growing with the needs of ourWomens Wednesdays participants inmind!

A participant also commented that Iwant [the community to know] thatwomen are welcome [at the Center].Womens Wednesdays is a unique oppor-tunity for LGBT identifying women age 50and over to network, forge relationships, and have fun in a casual, welcomingatmosphere. In this day and age, whilesocial networking websites are utilized

by a large number of LGBT individuals, the Center provides unique face-to-faceactivities to help build bridges, friend-ships, and communication.

The Centers focus is to continue to offerits wonderful facility as a friendly placeto come to meet other women and toprovide a womens program that is rele-vant and engaging. Going forward, wewill offer something new and differenteach month. In February, the group metand had a potluck dinner and movie, showing a popular favorite, If TheseWalls Could Talk 2.

Please be sure to check our events calen-dar each month to see whats happening.Womens Wednesdays takes place on the

3rd Wednesday of each month as beforebut with a new fun and exciting eventplanned.

Contact Senior Programs CoordinatorEd Miller at [email protected] or 215-732-2220 for more information aboutthis group and upcoming WomensWednesdays events.
