WANTED…Detectives and Investigators! Get out your magnifying glasses and detective hats as we have clues to decipher and crimes
to solve!
We’ll put our critical thinking to the test and get to the bottom of each of these mysteries by
learning the tricks real investigators use to solve cases. While experimenting with simple
detection techniques, your reasoning skills will grow and problem solving skills will become
better than CSI agents.

Our program includes lessons in a variety of hand building methods that inspire students to create works of art using clay !Lead by one of our accomplished instructors, the students pro-duce imaginative and fun projects each week. Each project is kiln fired and then glazed by the students. At the end of the program, students leave with a sense of accomplishment and amazing original pieces of a lifetime.

Program Name: Where in the World Grades: 3rd - 5th $103.50
Program Description: Pack your bags and get ready for an adventure! Each week will
feature a different location on the map. Students will start the class with their 'clue hunt' to try
and figure out the location of the day. Once the location is revealed students will learn about the
customs, food, sports, and more! Then class will create a project for the days location theme. In
Paris we'll make Eiffel towers, in England we'll create medieval shields. Take a trip with Whiz Kids
around the world!

Description: Learn chess from a Silver Knights Chess coach! We teach more than 2,000 children each week. Many state and national champions have come from our programs, but most of our students are just looking to have fun! Class time is split between lesson and play. Lessons range from learning the rules to advanced tournament strategies. Play time is structured
to pair each student against an opponent of similar skill. Students will have the opportunity to play in local, state and national tournaments. All chess supplies provided.

Description: Build and program robots to play soccer! How many goals can you score? Have fun playing a soccer tournament with other teams! Develop problem solving, team work and critical thinking skills while working on projects
using different sensors and motors through Lego education programs. Students use computers to control Lego model behavior using various drag and drop programming functions. Students also work with a bot with simple programming

Description: Build and program games using Lego and Mindstorms NXT. Build a pitching machine and a baseball batter and program it to play ball! Can you write a program to trap a mouse or a program to spin a top? Students build simple or
complex robots and as a part of this exercise they integrate their electronics building block skills with mechanical engineering skills. They face various levels of challenges learning simple to advanced programming using icon based drag

Description: This class is designed for students who are looking for additional WeDo robotics challenges. The course emphasizes creative problem-solving challenges, design innovation, and basic applied math concepts. Using an expanded construction set, students build more complex mechanisms and robots, and use their own innovation and critical thinking
skills to engineer their own solutions to exciting challenges. PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE 90 MINUTE CLASSES.

Filmmaking 3-5 Fairfax Collegiate 10-12 $215/ 8 weeks (90 minute classes Tuesday
Description: Students learn to plan, write, shoot, edit, and complete post production on a digital video short film. Students learn about the basics of film, shot composition, scripting, storyboarding, and the pre-production phase of filmmaking.
Students then move on to act out scripts and shoot the film using boom mics and professional Panasonic DVX-100 digital video cameras. Using Final Cut Express, students can edit their raw footage to complete the post production phase. Students
take home a DVD copy of their short film at the end of class. PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE 90 MINUTE CLASSES

Description: As a participant of the Wild Cats Chorus, your child is eligible to become a member of the Chorus NARRATOR/ACTORS Ensemble. The students in this ensemble will have the opportunity to narrate and/or act out the story in
our chorus performance. Students will memorize lines and wear costumes for the performance. Your child will enjoy being part of the drama in the story for the chorus show!

Description: Level 1: This is a rocking eight-week beginning guitar course that is designed to give the student an understanding of basic guitar skills and technique & beginning music theory. The course covers identifying the main parts of
the guitar, reading notes on the first three strings, & playing basic chords to simple songs. Level 2 students will review the material from the first class but continue on the first four strings, strumming chords to
songs, and technical development. *Your own personal guitar is not needed but suggested. We have Baritone Ukuleles that you can borrow and return. Personal guitars can only be brought in on Wednesdays, the day of the class, and taken home at the end of class. They cannot be stored during the week.*

KidzArt Drawing K-5 KidzArt 8-16 $129/8weeks Thursday Description: Start building a lifetime love of art with KidzArt! Developed with the philosophy that learning to draw
creates confidence, focus, and perseverance, our students engage their imagination in a whole new way! Our curriculum never repeats and enables students to confidently create their own masterpieces. Younger children practice following directions and using fine motor skills. Older children love having the freedom, guidance and encouragement to further

The CAKE WALK is sure to be one of the most popular events at Winterfest, and we need lots of cakes to make it successful. Winter-‐themed cakes are encouraged, but any cakes you can donate will be appreciated. Please label for “nuts” or “no nuts”. If “no nuts”, please provide ALL ingredients.
Cakes can be delivered to the Weller Cafeteria on Friday, January 31st from 2:30-‐4:30pm or Saturday, February 1st from 10am-‐12pm

Winterfest CAKE WALK
Steuart Weller Families – we need your help!! Please donate a themed jar filled with fun items (rainbow looms, kitchen gadgets, hair pretties, and legos are just some examples). Jars can be any
size. Get creative and have fun with this!
The jars will be used in the JAR GAME at Winterfest. Similar to the CAKE WALK, participants will have the chance to
win a jar if their ticket is picked.*
*Tickets much be purchased for each game.
Jars can be brought to your child’s classroom the week of January 21st – January 24th

Help us decorate for Winterfest! Each classroom is invited to decorate their door with a Winter theme. Teachers, students,
and/or parents are welcome to help! Door judging will take place on January 30th at 9am.
