Program Name: Where in the World Grades: 3rd - 5th $103.50

Program Description: Pack your bags and get ready for an adventure! Each week will

feature a different location on the map. Students will start the class with their 'clue hunt' to try

and figure out the location of the day. Once the location is revealed students will learn about the

customs, food, sports, and more! Then class will create a project for the days location theme. In

Paris we'll make Eiffel towers, in England we'll create medieval shields. Take a trip with Whiz Kids

around the world!

Using an expanded construction set, students build more complex mechanisms and robots, and use their own innovation and critical thinking

skills to engineer their own solutions to exciting challenges. PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE 90 MINUTE CLASSES.

Description: Students learn to plan, write, shoot, edit, and complete post production on a digital video short film. Students learn about the basics of film, shot composition, scripting, storyboarding, and the pre-production phase of filmmaking.

Students then move on to act out scripts and shoot the film using boom mics and professional Panasonic DVX-100 digital video cameras. Using Final Cut Express, students can edit their raw footage to complete the post production phase. Students

take home a DVD copy of their short film at the end of class. PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE 90 MINUTE CLASSES

the guitar, reading notes on the first three strings, & playing basic chords to simple songs. Level 2 students will review the material from the first class but continue on the first four strings, strumming chords to

songs, and technical development. *Your own personal guitar is not needed but suggested. We have Baritone Ukuleles that you can borrow and return. Personal guitars can only be brought in on Wednesdays, the day of the class, and taken home at the end of class. They cannot be stored during the week.*

Winterfest  is  the  family  event  of  the  season,  including:      

• A  giant  inflatable  obstacle  course    

• Music  provided  by  Bach  to  Rock,  BEMS  Musical  Cast  and  DJs  to  Go  

• Games  galore  throughout  the  entire  school!      

• Tickets  earned  at  each  game  can  be  turned  in  for  great  prizes!  

• Dinner  for  the  whole  family  available  for  purchase  

• The  ever-­‐popular  CAKE  WALK!  

• Mystery  Jar  raffles

Steuart  Weller  Bakers  –  bring  us  your  best  CAKES!!    

The  CAKE  WALK  is  sure  to  be  one  of  the  most  popular  events  at  Winterfest,  and  we  need  lots  of  cakes  to  make  it  successful.    Winter-­‐themed  cakes  are  encouraged,  but  any  cakes  you  can  donate  will  be  appreciated.        Please  label  for  “nuts”  or  “no  nuts”.    If  “no  nuts”,  please  provide  ALL  ingredients.      

Cakes  can  be  delivered  to  the  Weller  Cafeteria  on  Friday,  January  31st  from  2:30-­‐4:30pm  or  Saturday,  February  1st  from  10am-­‐12pm

Steuart  Weller  Families  –  we  need  your  help!!    Please  donate  a  themed  jar  filled  with  fun  items  (rainbow  looms,  kitchen  gadgets,  hair  pretties,  and  legos  are  just  some  examples).    Jars  can  be  any  

size.    Get  creative  and  have  fun  with  this!      

The  jars  will  be  used  in  the  JAR  GAME  at  Winterfest.      Similar  to  the  CAKE  WALK,  participants  will  have  the  chance  to  

win  a  jar  if  their  ticket  is  picked.*        

*Tickets  much  be  purchased  for  each  game.  

   

Jars  can  be  brought  to  your  child’s  classroom  the  week  of  January  21st  –  January  24th

Help  us  decorate  for  Winterfest!    Each  classroom  is  invited  to  decorate  their  door  with  a  Winter  theme.    Teachers,  students,  

and/or  parents  are  welcome  to  help!    Door  judging  will  take  place  on  January  30th  at  9am.
