Die Auftritte von Mike Polarny und Novika + Lex werden verlegt: Neuer Auftrittsort ist die Jack Dan-iel’s Stage @ Fluc (anstatt Eristoff Pratersauna – Main Floor). Am Samstag werden Aeromaschine und Mario & Vidis am Bunker-Floor der Eristoff Pratersauna auftreten (anstatt am Main Floor). Deswei-teren sind die Auftritte von Abby Lee Tee und Mieux am Samstag nun auf das Badeschiff verlegt. Das Programm am Bunker-Floor der Eristoff Pratersauna wird an-sonsten wie geplant stattfi nden.

Es ist wieder Waves-Vienna-Zeit. Dieses Jahr eine Woche später angesiedelt, blicken wir wieder schönem Wetter, zahlreichen tol-len Acts und einer spannenden Konferenz entgegen. Veränderun-gen gibt es viele, und auch einige Neuerungen. Etwa die Eröff nung heute Abend um 18:45 Uhr im Gar-tenbaukino mit einem Konzertfi lm:

„Shut Up and Play the Hits“. Der großartigen Doku rund um den letzten Auftritt der nicht mind-er großartigen Formation LCD Soundsystem. Ein perfekter Start ins Festival! It is Waves Vienna time again. Scheduled a week later than last year, we are once again looking forward to nice weather, countless acts, and an exciting conference. There have been lots of changes and innovations. For instance, the opening tonight at 6:45 pm at Gartenbaukino with the concert fi lm “Shut Up and Play the Hits” – the fantastic documen-tary about the last performance of the no less fantastic formation LCD Soundsystem. A perfect start into the festival!

HigHligHts 04.10.

Während im Wiener Gartenbaukino die offizielle Eröffnung der zweiten Ausgabe von Waves Vienna stattfindet, gibt es am ersten Festivaltag in den Club-Locations rund 40 Künstler, Bands und DJs zu en-tdecken. Als fixe Größe des gediegenen Indie-Rock stechen The Wedding Present hervor, deren krea-tiver Output auch nach 25-jähriger Bandgeschichte lange kein Ende nimmt. Dillon ist auf dem besten Wege zu ebensolchen Erfolgen, erobert sie doch derzeit mit ihren melancholisch-experimentellen, von Keyboard und Stimme getragenen Popsongs ganz Europa. Auch Einar Stray setzt auf experimen-telle Klavierkompositionen, die er durch orchest-rale Arrangements zu Pop-Perlen einerseits, klas-sisch anmutenden Post-Rock-Stücken andererseits ausbaut. Komplexe, sphärische Songs voller Tiefe präsentieren Tu Fawning und, egal wie dunkel und dramatisch – ihre Stücke wirken trotzdem zu keinem Zeitpunkt pathetisch. Eine gewisse Hymnenhaftig-keit ist der reduzierten, doch umso eingängigeren Musik von Sea & Air zuzuschreiben, ebenso wie jener von Me and My Drummer, die zeitgemäßen Pop mit ausdrucksstarker Stimme darbieten. Gewitzte Poesie und elegischen Überschwang verbinden The Wave Pictures zu Indie-Pop der besonderen Sorte. Getanzt werden kann zum Drum-Beats-lastigen Synthie-Pop von Miloopa. Paula & Karol wiederum verpacken euphorische Melodien in mitreißende Folksongs. Spät nachts kann man sich dann von Ghostpoet und seiner Mischung aus Post-Dubstep und Rap oder von Rocketnumbernine mit ihrer hochkarätigen Deep-Dub-Dancemusic an der Schwelle zu House und Techno in Stimmung bringen lassen – für Rustie, der auf einzigartige Weise Bass, Synthesizer und Hip-Hop-Beats mit Zelda-Samples kombiniert.

While the opening of the second edition of Waves Vienna takes place at Vienna’s Gartenbaukino, the first festival day has to offer about 40 artists, bands, and DJs at the various club locations. The Wedding Present stand out as true masters of gen-uine indie rock. Even after 25 years, their creative output knows no limits. Dillon is well on her way to become just as successful. The musician is cur-rently taking Europe by storm with her melancholic, experimental pop songs dominated by keyboards and vocals. Einar Stray, too, goes for experimental piano compositions which, by means of orchestral arrangements, he transforms into pop gems, on the one hand, and post rock tracks with a classical touch, on the other hand. Tu Fawning present com-plex, spheric songs full of depth; and no matter how gloomy and dramatic, their songs never seem pa-thetic. A certain love for hymnal structures can be found in the reduced but all the more catchy music of Sea & Air as well as in that of Me and My Drum-mer, who present modern pop with expressive vo-cals. The Wave Pictures combine witty lyrics and elegiac exuberance to create a special kind of indie pop. Miloopa’s drum-beat-heavy synth pop, too, will make you dance. Paula & Karol, in turn, wrap up euphoric melodies in sweeping folk songs. Late at night, you should get warmed up: either by Ghost-poet – and his mix of post dubstep and rap – or by Rocketnumbernine – with their top-class deep dub dance music bordering on house and techno; and than, you are hopefully ready for Rustie, who combines bass, synthesiser, and hip-hop beats with Zelda samples in a unique way.

Die Berlin Music Commission vertritt die Interessen der kleinen und mittelständischen Unternehmen der Musikwirtschaft in Berlin und bringt lokale und inter-nationale Geschäftspartner zusammen. Im Rahmen von Waves Vienna lädt die Organisation zu einem Showcase mit zwei der hellsten Lichter der Berliner Musikszene ein: And the Golden Choir ist das Ein-Mann-Projekt des Produzenten und Musikers Tobias Siebert. Auf der Bühne ersetzt eine Vinyl-Aufnahme, bei der er selbst alle Instrumente eingespielt hat, die Begleitband. Charlotte Brandi und Matze Pröllochs ali-as Me and My Drummer, der zweite Act des Showcase, haben einen Theater-Hintergrund. Ihre Musik bewegt sich frei zwischen den Genres Indie- und Dream-Pop. At Waves Vienna, it is hosting a showcase with two of the brightest lights of the city’s music scene: And the Golden Choir is the one-man project of producer and musician Tobias Siebert. On stage, a vinyl recording of himself playing all the instruments substitues a backing band. Nach ausgiebigen Tourn-een um die ganze Welt sollte mit einem Konzert im Madison Square Garden am Höhepunkt der Popu-larität ein Schlussstrich gezogen werden. „Shut Up and Play the Hits“ dokumentiert das große Ab-schlussspektakel vor 18.000 euphorischen Fans, gewährt aber auch tiefe Einblicke in die Gedanken-welt des Anti-Stars Murphy. Von Beginn an hat Waves Vienna auf die Vernetzung der Musikszenen West- und Osteuropas gesetzt. Ge-treu dem Motto „East Meets West“ sind daher heuer Polen und Frankreich als Gastländer geladen und sowohl im Festival-Line-up als auch im Rahmen der Conference besonders präsent. Aus Polen werden neun Acts anreisen, die die vielfältige und dyna-mische Musikszene des Landes widerspiegeln.Während flotte Synthesizer-Akkorde und knack-ige Drum-Beats von Miloopa zum Tanzen einladen (04.10., Flex Café), besingen Paula & Karol in fröh-lich instrumentalisierten Folk-Songs Alltagsbefindli-chkeiten (04.10., FM4 Riverboat @ Clubschiff). Auch das Singer-Songwriter-Duo Twilite ist auf der folkig-melancholischen Schiene unterwegs (04.10., Café Dogenhof), wohingegen Kamp! aus 80er-New-Wave, 70er-Krautrock und französischem House ihre eigene Version melodischen Synthie-Pops zaubern (04.10., MS Schlögen). From the very beginning, Waves Vienna aimed at establishing Pan-European networks which connect the music scenes of Western and Eastern European countries. That is why, true to the motto “East Meets West”, Poland and France were invited as this year’s guest countries; both the festival line-up and the conference programme include special focuses on these two nations. Nine acts from Poland will per-form at Waves Vienna and provide an insight into the diverse and dynamic music scene of the country.While Miloopa’s energetic synthesiser cords and fresh drum beats make you wanna dance (Oct. 4th, Flex Café), Paula & Karol sing about everyday life in cheerfully orchestrated folk songs (Oct. 4th, FM4 Riverboat @ Clubschiff). The singer-songwriter duo Twilite, too, walks down the folky, melancholic path (Oct. 4th, Café Dogenhof), whereas Kamp! Cre-ate their own version of melodic synth pop out of 80s new wave, 70s krautrock, and French house (Oct. 4th, MS Schlögen). Poland’s club scene will not be left out, either: get ready for housey tracks by Novika + Lex (Oct. 4th, Jack Daniel’s Stage @ Fluc), funky techno by SLG (Oct. 4th, Eristoff Pratersauna

Dass wir Musik heute auf eine ganz andere Art und Weise hören als noch vor wenigen Jahren ist jedem klar. Während die Fans früher ihr letztes Taschengeld zusammengekratzt haben, um sich das neue Album ihrer Lieblingsband zu holen, das dann wochenlang auf Repeat gelaufen ist, wollen viele heutzutage etwas anderes: mehr Musik, mehr Auswahl, eine Musikbibliothek mit Tausenden von Titeln. Und das schneller, überall verfügbar, kostengünstig, ja viel-leicht sogar umsonst.In letzter Zeit sind Musik-Streaming-Plattformen deshalb geradezu aus dem Boden geschossen. Ganz neu dabei und besonders interessant: der französische Anbieter Deezer. Speziell für für Lehrlinge gibt es Packages, die alle Bereiche des Wiener Kulturlebens abdecken. Die Palette reicht von Museumsbesuchen über Kabarett-, Tanz- oder Theateraufführungen bis hin zu Konzerten.In enger Kooperation mit dem Stadtschulrat werden auch Lehrexkursionen und Workshops mit Theaterpäda-gogInnen an den Schulen angeboten. Das Projekt passt sich flexibel an die Erfordernisse des Unterrichts in den Berufsschulen an – mit ein Grund für seinen Erfolg.

DAS PASSENDE KULTURERLEBNiSKulturvermittlung hat in der Kulturpolitik der Stadt Wien einen wichtigen Stellenwert. Neben Go for Culture, einer Initiative des Wiener Kulturstadtrates, profitie-ren Jugendliche auch von der Förderschiene Cash for Culture. Außerdem werden ArbeitnehmerInnen von den »Kultur lotsInnen« zielsicher zum passenden Kultur-erlebnis geführt. Kultur ist für alle da und keineswegs ein Elitenprogramm. Daher wird die Stadt weiterhin darauf achten, mit ihrem Kulturangebot auch möglichst viele Menschen zu erreichen.Die Veranstaltungen haben zwei Dinge gemeinsam: verbilligten oder freien Eintritt und ein spannendes

VERGüNSTiGUNGEN UND MEHRAuf der Website goforculture.at können sich Lehrlinge über die aktuellen Angebote und die Veranstaltungsorte informieren und sich online anmelden. Im Kulturlexikon werden wichtige Begriffe des Kulturlebens erklärt. In einer Liste sind alle Vergünstigungen angeführt, die es für Lehr-linge abseits der Angebote von Go for Culture gibt.Beteiligt sind zum Beispiel das Volkstheater, das Theater in der Josefstadt und das Theater in der Drachengasse. Tanz gibt es im Tanzquartier oder im Brut Koproduktions-haus Wien zu sehen. Musical bietet das Ronacher, Kaba-rett etwa das Theater Akzent. Auch zahlreiche Museen wie das MUSA, das Künstlerhaus oder das Haus der Musik laden Lehrlinge zu speziellen Programmen ein.
