Depending on the paddler’s weight, each kayak will react and perform differently. Your weight is important because of how it affects the waterline on the kayak (See sidebar on waterlines for more information). Basically, the more you weigh, the lower a boat will sit in the water and that is what affects boat performance.

. . . AT W AV E S P O R T, I T ’ S A W AY O F L I F ESince its introduction in 1986, Wave Sport has always been about moving the sport of

whitewater kayaking forward. We have become the leader in producing cutting-edge,

high performance kayaks by working with the top, world-class paddlers to design, test,

and promote the brand.

The sport of kayaking is evolving at an amazing rate. New designs have made the sport

more accessible to more people and the fit and feel of boats is better than ever before.

And Wave Sport has been a dominant force throughout this evolution.

In 2002, we have taken this evolution one step further. We are proud to introduce the Siren,

the industry’s first kayak designed specifically for the female paddler. In addition, look for

the Aces, a new series of high performance playboats featuring the loosest hull in Wave Sport

history, as well as a new-generation creekboat, the Mutant. For you bigger guys, we’ve

created the Super EZ, featuring the same perfect blend of river-running ease and play ability

as our smash hit EZ series.

Look to Wave Sport for kayaks that fit better, run rivers better, perform today’s moves easier,

make more moves possible and allow you to descend those steep creeks.

There’s never been a better time

to be a kayaker. It doesn’t matter

if you’re a man or a woman, young

or old, short or tall. Wave Sport is

creating the right products to make

your first day or your 20th year

on the river a fun, exhilarating

and memorable experience.

And after all, isn’t that what kayaking is all about?

Our exclusive line of top quality accessories matches the exceptional performance of our boats. Looking for the ultimate in warmth and comfort?

Choose from a wide variety of spray skirts, PFDs, and layering pieces. Or check out our funky street wear and look stylish off the river in

board shorts, sweatshirts, T-shirts, tank tops, caps and more. For functional clothing that

works on or off the water, Wave Sport has everything for the serious paddler.

TECHNICAL ACCESSORIES

Wave Sport creates the highest quality and most durable tech gear available. Most cockpit covers

and spray skirts come in small, standard and large rim sizes, as well as in extra-small up

to extra-large waist sizes. Our exclusive PFDs are available in XS/S, M/L, or XL/XXL.

THERMAL WEAR

Stay warm and comfortable with Wave Sport’s

premium layering pieces. Most of our thermal

wear is available in both men’s and women’s

small medium, large and

extra-large sizes.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE A WHITEWATER KAYAK?

D O M I N A N C E B Y D E S I G NAt Wave Sport, we operate on a simple philosophy. In order to dominate, you’ve got to have a dedicated team of outstanding athletes paddling quality boats based on cutting-edge designs. And to have cutting-edge designs, you’ve got to listen to your athletes. Guess what happens when you do? You capture more than 40% of the top spots at whitewater competitions across the world, including top honors at the Men’s and Women’s World Freestyle Championships in Spain, just likeTeam Wave Sport did in 2001.

We take pride in the fact that our progressive designs are produced with the latest technology and manufactured to the highest production standards. Our professional design team, including the talents of former Olympian, World Champion and Team Wave Sport member, Eric Jackson, and marine engineer, David Knight, is constantly designing, building and testing these boats, using the Paramax design system — the only parameter driven design program in the industry — to bring you the best kayaks on the market.

W A N T A G R E AT F I T ? G E T F. A . T.Setting a new industry standard, only Wave Sport offers Fit Adjustment Technology (F.A.T.)

for a custom fit without glue or hassles. Our original F.A.T. 1.0 has an adjustable

thigh hook system, sculpted hip pads, sculptable foot shims, and an adjustable backband.

Upgraded for 2002, F.A.T. 2.0 includes everything found in F.A.T. 1.0 and adds a fully

adjustable foot bulkhead, padded adjustable seat, height and leg cant, molded backband

with cam buckle strap and ribbed floor rail that reduces oil-canning. BASIC OUTFITTINGincludes interchangeable molded thigh hooks, adjustable backband, and, depending on the

model, adjustable foot pegs, foot support insert with foam pads or a breakaway bulkhead.

O N LY T H E H I G H E S T S TA N D A R D S F O R A L L K AYA K SWAVE SPORT HULL DESIGNS: Created using the Paramax design system for the best combination of user-friendliness and

unparalleled performance across the board. DROP CHINE RELEASE EDGES: These bevels between the hull and the side hull

are our secret to superb tracking, looseness and increasing play performance while retaining a non-edgy feel.

GRAB LOOPS: High strength webbing at both ends provides anchor points for a pinned boat and carrying/towing handles.

SECURITY BARS: Tamper-proof stainless steel bars at both ends are ideal for locking your boat and essential for safety.

E A C H K AYA K F E AT U R E S O N E O F T W O H U L L D E S I G N SSTANDARD SIDE HULL: Our exclusive side hull edge enables the boat to carve like it’s on rails and maintain speed while on edge.

FLARED SIDE WALL: Provides secondary stability when put on edge creating a predictable, user-friendly and forgiving boat.

A D D I T I O N A L F E AT U R E S O N S O M E M O D E L SWave Sport offers ADJUSTMENTS FOR SMALLER PADDLERS, including a lower deck height and a smaller standard keyhole

cockpit. You’ll also find this feature in the Siren, the industry’s first kayak DESIGNED EXCLUSIVELY FOR WOMEN. Some boats

come equipped with ADJUSTABLE FOOT BRACES to accommodate any size paddler. Others offer a BREAKAWAY BULKHEADfor added safety. New this year, the Mutant and the Siren feature distinguishing ETCHED-IN GRAPHIC DETAILS on the deck.

G I V E Y O U R C O M M A N D P E R F O R M A N C EDifferent paddlers look for different performance features. Freestylers demand a boat that has VERTICAL ABILITY to initiate cartwheels and other vertical

play moves and RETENTIVENESS so you can stay in the hole and show off your moves. They also want a boat that offers LOOSENESS that allows effortless

spinning on waves. Wave surfers want a kayak with enough CARVING ABILITY to grip the water when on edge and lots of SPEED for catching waves.

Speed is also critical when paddling in deeper water and on flatter waves where you’ll want a faster, longer boat, while a shorter, easily maneuverable boat is

better for shallower water with steeper, choppier waves. River-runners need plenty of stability with a low EDGINESS rating so their kayak is less likely to be

turned over by moving water. And of course, no matter which style of kayaking you prefer, correct sizing for ultimate COMFORT is of the utmost importance.

D E F I N E Y O U R P E R S O N A L S T Y L EIt doesn’t matter why you want to kayak – whether it’s cruisin’ with friends and making

occasional stops to try a few tricks in a play spot while RIVER RUNNING, or if it’s

all about PLAYBOATING and throwin’ down the latest moves such as cartwheels,

spins or loops in your favorite hole, or even if you want to push it to the limit with

CREEK BOATING, running steep creeks with tight lines and great boof spots or

The industry's

first kayak

designed

exclusively for

women. Using

the proven

Ace design

platform and

hull technology,

we've narrowed

the width to

make it easier to

roll and control.

Dramatically

lighter, the

Siren allows for

effortless play.

The Ace 4.7

allows for

effortless

vertical ability,

more aerial

blunts and the

cleanest spins

ever. Slicey yet

non-edgy, short,

yet fast, and all

this is matched

to the loosest

hull in Wave

Sport history.

The Ace 5.1

includes the

same high

performance

features as the

Ace 4.7, just in a

bigger package.

The additional

hull speed and

non-edgy, slicey

ends make

this boat the

ultimate play

machine for the

larger paddler.

The EZ is the

most versatile

of all our

boats. Whether

playboating or

river running,

its plentiful

rocker, carefully

distributed

volume and

short hull

meld incredible

vertical

ability and

retentiveness

with superb

stability.

Everything that

makes the EZ

a revolutionary

kayak is right

here, bigger and

badder. It will

take you vertical

and beyond with

ease and let

you run the

river with

confidence and

it's designed to

fit the above-

average sized

paddler.

A new revolution

in playboating.

A playboat

made especially

for 200 lbs. plus

paddlers and

featuring a

larger cockpit

for easy entry

and exit.

The Super EZ

has the same

perfect blend

of river-running

ease and play

ability as other

EZ series boats.

The first true

high performance

playboat sized

for younger

paddlers, women

and smaller

men. The Evo is

a super-loose,

super-slicey

rodeo-ready

machine. The

smaller and

lower cockpit rim

and lower overall

knee height

provides comfort

and control.

The XXX

dominated the

2001 US rodeo

season, winning

more than 40%

of the top spots.

A top performer

because it

marries our

super-loose hull

with ultra-low

volume slicey

ends to generate

exceptional

vertical and

horizontal

maneuverability.

For full-on play,

the ForPlay

features a long,

loose hull and

super-slicey ends

with narrow tips

that make it

super fast but

very forgiving

when linking

vertical moves.

Its innovative

side hull design

lets it carve on

a wave like

no other ever

before.

A true high

performance

kayak fit for the

larger paddler.

Score adds more

speed, carving

and looseness

to the already

impressive

ForPlay design

characteristics.

Its carefully

distributed

volume, makes

this boat

comfortable and

easy to control.

Not too big for

freestyle, not too

small for river

running, the X

is an extremely

versatile kayak

for the beginning

to intermediate

boater. It’s

surprisingly

user-friendly

and forgiving,

making it a

great pick for

the smaller or

more aggressive

novice.

The Z is so

multifunctional,

so amazingly

affordable and

user-friendly,

it's a kayak you

can't outgrow.

Ideal for the

novice looking

to improve his or

her skills quickly,

it has the same

characteristics

as the X but

modified for the

larger paddler.

A new-generation

creekboat that’s

optimized for

the mid-sized

paddler, the

Mutant has

a unique

asymmetrical

design that

makes it as

maneuverable

as a playboat

while maintaining

the high rocker

and volume of a

true creekboat.

A world-class

creekboat, the Y

is a high-volume

kayak in a short,

maneuverable

hull. Plenty of

sidewall flare

and big wide

ends that stay

out of the water

for superb

stability. Ample

volume makes

it safe and

comfortable

and easy to exit

when you must.

WATERL INESWhere the waterline falls

on a kayak depends on

your weight and the boat’s

volume. The relationship

between the parting line

(the point where the side

hull meets the deck) and

the waterline is critical in

determining how the

kayak will perform for

different types of paddling.

The weight specified for

each boat is the ideal

weight that would maximize

river running and play ability

for that specific kayak.

The paddler who is heavier

than the given weight will

push the parting line closer

to the waterline, making

the kayak easier to get

vertical, but the river-

running performance will

decrease because the boat

will be edgier and have

less speed. The lighter

paddler, however, will cause

the parting line to be higher

above the waterline, making

the kayak more suitable

for river running but more

difficult to get vertical due

to greater buoyancy.

until you are under the boat you are interested in and locate your weight range. The higher the score the better that kayak will perform that particular characteristic for your weight.

NUMERIC RATINGS: 6 = OPTIMUM, 5 = EXCELLENT, 4 = VERY GOOD, 3 = GOOD, 2 = FAIR, 1 = POOR, 0 = Not Applicable

Depending on the paddler’s weight, each kayak will react and perform differently. Your weight is important because of how it affects the waterline on the kayak (See sidebar on waterlines for more information). Basically, the more you weigh, the lower a boat will sit in the water and that is what affects boat performance.

We’ve developed this chart to help make this important relationship easy for you to understand. Below are seven different weight ranges that we have color-coded for easy recognition. The 10 performance characteristics are displayed in the column to the left. Simply find the characteristic you want to review, follow the row
