PRESIDENT’S LETTER

Harry E. Came The Mission Statement of the Waukegan Historical Society is collect, preserve, and make accessible the rich history of Waukegan. Together with our partner the Waukegan Park District we operate the Waukegan History Museum in the Haines farmhouse, the John Raymond Library in Lilac Cottage, and participate and partner with the Park District Waukegan Public Library, Waukegan Arts Council, the City of Waukegan, and many other local groups. We partner in events such as the Dandelion Wine Festival, the Cemetery Walk, and the Independence Day celebration. We also provide free historic tours and a huge presence in the Waukegan public schools through our Museum Supervisor, Ty Rohrer. The Waukegan Park District will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the district beginning at the end of 2016 and all through 2017. The Waukegan Historical Society will be celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2018. With our partner the Park District we have drawn plans for a major addition to the Museum in order to better serve our visitors and provide safe exhibit and storage for our huge collections of artifacts of Waukegan's history. The Society is well on its way to achieving this year's goal of raising $200,000 for the addition by the end of 2016. We look forward to a bright future for the Society and another successful century for the Waukegan Park District.
