Power Performance in Hydraulic Machines

In the design of hydraulic machinery,Andritz AG has done true pioneeringwork. The first water turbines wereplanned, designed and manufacturedhere more than 120 years ago!

Hydraulic machines supplied byAndritz have since helped ensureelectric current supply in many countries across the globe.

Extensive research and developmentin the laboratories and test stands ofASTRÖ Institute of hydraulic research,a Graz-based affiliate of Andritz AG,form the foundation stone for this.

Our range:

● Kaplan turbines

● Francis turbines

● Pelton turbines

● Storage pumps and pump turbines

● Compact turbines

● Distributed Control Systems

● Shut-off devices

Horizontal Kaplan Bulb Turbines

4

Horizontal Kaplan Bulb Turbines areideal for large flow rates at a com-paratively low head (up to 30 m).Also, great variations in both the flowrate and head commend their use.

These turbines stand for highest efficiency at a large flow rate, due tostraight flow.

In the limelight:

● Freudenau power station, Danube, Austria

2 horizontal bulb turbines, plus the complete hydraulic design and the runner blades for all six turbines (supplied by a consortiumof Austrian companies)

● Wang Fu Zhou, China

Vertical Kaplan Turbines

Vertical Kaplan turbines are used inrun-off river power stations with ahead of up to 65 m. A high outputand efficiency over the entire operat-ing range are characteristics of thisturbine design.

In the limelight:

● Aschach power station, Danube, Austria

2 vertical Kaplan turbinesRunner diameter: 8.4 mHead: 17 mOutput: 73,000 kW

● Salakovac power station, Neretva, Bosnia-Herzegovina

Pelton Turbines

The casing and annular piping for Koralpe power station

Pelton turbines are the answer to com-paratively low flow rates and heads inthe upper range (up to 1800 m). They are built with horizontal or verticalshafts, single or multiple jets, and aredouble or single regulated.

In the limelight:

● Mayerhofen power station, Austria

1 horizontal, 4-jet double Pelton turbineHead: 475 mRunner diameter : 3,025 mmOutput: 67,500 kWBucket width: 740 mm

● Sellrain-Silz power station, Austria

Francis Turbines

Francis turbines are used for medium-to-large outputs and a headof 30 to 750 m.

In the limelight:

● Rosshag power station, Austria

4 vertical Francis turbinesHead: 672 m (a world record until 1986)Output: 58,500 kW

● Bocac power station, Vrbas, Bosnia-Herzegovina

2 vertical Francis turbinesHead: 54 mRunner diameter: 4.05 mOutput: 60,000 kW

● Häusling power station, Austria

Storage Pumps and Pump Turbines

They are used separately as storagepumps and turbines or as pump tur-bines having both functions in onemachine.

Compact Turbines

Compact design, bevel-gear bulb turbineVertical pump turbine

Compact turbines are optimally suited to harnessing small hydro-resources.

Operators can choose individualcomponents or complete solutionsfrom our systems range: from theturbine to the electric and governorequipment, to turn-key systems, allfrom a single source!
