Watercolor Gesso TutorialAugust/September 2011
This technique was contributed and filmed by Hetty Sanders. The gesso is used to blend and mutethe watercolor crayon color with a soft effect.
Supplies: - Watercolor Crayons- Water- Gesso- Brush- Watercolor or Plain White Paper- Cup- Palette
Step One:Use 2 or 3 colors of crayons and color on the paper. It doesn’t have to be neat. Leave some white space showing.
Step Two:Add water in the cup and put a blob of gesso on the plate.

Step Three:Dip the brush in the water and then in the gesso.
Step Four:Brush over the crayon marks on the paper. The watercolor crayon color will soften when blended with the gesso and water. Go over the paper a few times, without saturating the paper too much.
Step Five:Piece may be stamped on directly or usedas a background.
