    Increase in Demand

Demand for water continues to escalate at unsustainable rates.

Every 20 years, water consumption is doubling.

It is estimated by 2025 one third of the population will not have access to

    adequate drinking water.

Already there are an increasing number of rivers running dry.

The water basin in parts of Northern China is falling by one meter a year due to

    over pumping

Pakistan is already classified as water stressed. Total renewable water resourcesin the country declined from 2,961 cubic meters per person in 2000 to 1,420 cubic

    meters per person in 2005.

The annual out flow of water into the Arabian Sea is considered a waste of

    approx.

35% 40% of water every year.

    Extreme Measures

    What are the solutions?

What strategy can be implemented to help resolve this issue?

    1. Water Developments

    2. Water Management

The water development strategy is largely based upon construction of new

storage reservoirs where as the water management strategy will help in

    reducing the present losses.

Pakistan is currently close to using all its surface and ground water, but it

has also been projected that over 30 percent more water will be requiredover the next 20 years to meet the increased agricultural, domestic and

    industrial demand.
