At the end they are showered with sweets to symbolise being showered with God’s blessings and have a party.

Aqiqah – welcoming ceremony

Held on 7th day after child is born (or 14th, 21st).

Parents host a party at their local community centre or their home.

Community meal of sheep or goat. Animal is slaughtered humanely, 1/3 meat is given away to the poor as charity,

the rest is served at the party. The baby’s head is shaved and its weight in gold is given to the poor. The baby’s

name is officially announced. Charity (zakat) is an essential part of the Muslim faith.
