Greetings Everyone, From now on you will notice some changes in our monthly newsletter which merit an explanation. For the past two years, the management newsletter Pine Needler and the Residents Association Newsletter have been combined, with management handling the printing and distribution through print and email. This was done to reduce costs and simplify the process. Prior to May 2015 the two newsletters were printed and distributed separately. The newsletter has grown and content and is now also available on our community website - take a moment to visit www.pinelakesprescott.com. Recently Hometown América made the decision to publish their newsletters across the country digitally and this will mean it is no longer possible to combine the two publications. The Residents Association will resume publishing a separate newsletter which will be available on the website, and via email to residents. For those without computer access a limited number of copies will be available at the office for pickup by those who do not have an email address listed in the community directory. Our advertiser’s information will be available on the website. Management has agreed to print hard copies of the monthly calendar and make some available in the news boxes. We expect our newsletter to be ready for distribution in the first week of every month. If you have any questions regarding the changes please call me at 928-350-8498. Our first Doggie Daze event was a howling (or barking) success and with some improvements should be even better next year. Now it is time to start looking through your house and selecting items for our June yard sale. Sign up information will be posted in early May and the sale will be held on June 3 rd . Don’t forget that our Cinco de Mayo party is a Cinco de Quattro party this year. We are holding it on May 4 th because our popular band wasn’t available on the 5 th , not to celebrate my birthday as some have suggested!! Greetings Everyone,

From now on you will notice some changes in our monthly

newsletter which merit an explanation.

For the past two years, the management newsletter Pine

Needler and the Residents Association Newsletter have

been combined, with management handling the printing

and distribution through print and email. This was done to

reduce costs and simplify the process. Prior to May 2015

the two newsletters were printed and distributed

separately.

The newsletter has grown and content and is now also

available on our community website - take a moment to

visit www.pinelakesprescott.com.

Recently Hometown América made the decision to

publish their newsletters across the country digitally and

this will mean it is no longer possible to combine the two

publications.

The Residents Association will resume publishing a

separate newsletter which will be available on the

website, and via email to residents. For those without

computer access a limited number of copies will be

available at the office for pickup by those who do not have

an email address listed in the community directory.

Our advertiser’s information will be available on the

website. Management has agreed to print hard copies of

the monthly calendar and make some available in the

news boxes.

We expect our newsletter to be ready for distribution in

the first week of every month. If you have any questions

regarding the changes please call me at 928-350-8498.

Our first Doggie Daze event was a howling (or barking)

success and with some improvements should be even

better next year.

Now it is time to start looking through your house and

selecting items for our June yard sale. Sign up information

will be posted in early May and the sale will be held on

June 3rd.

Don’t forget that our Cinco de Mayo party is a Cinco de

Quattro party this year. We are holding it on May 4th

because our popular band wasn’t available on the 5th, not

to celebrate my birthday as some have suggested!!

Until then, enjoy the sunshine,

Watch out for this hot package scam

According to The Plain Dealer, an Ohio man narrowly avoided being taken in a scam that preys on the

distraction you feel after your credit card has been breached by criminals.

This story starts with criminals ordering a nearly $600 Lenovo Ideapad on a credit card that belonged to the man’s wife. Fortunately, the couple was signed up for email alerts from their bank. Each time a new charge is

posted to their account, they get an instant notification.

The couple immediately reported the charge as fraudulent to their bank, which hadn’t noticed any red flags

around the purchase of the computer from Best Buy.

Once alerted, the bank immediately stopped payment on the order.

Yet a few days later, the computer showed up at the couple’s home on a UPS truck. The man called Best Buy

to explain what was going on. Fortunately, he able to return the computer to a local Best Buy store — no harm,

no foul.

Here’s where it gets interesting…

The day after the man returned the computer, FedEx showed up at the couple’s home with a shipping label and

instructions to pick up a computer for return to Best Buy.

However, the address on the return shipping label wasn’t for a legitimate Best Buy location; it was for a

residential street address in the Philadelphia area — likely the home of reshipping mule who doesn’t even

know that their new work-from-home job is part of a criminal front.

So the m.o. of the criminals is this: They will order expensive electronics on a stolen credit card and have the

purchases shipped to the home of the legitimate credit card holder. The criminals are hoping the card holder

will become preoccupied with disputing the purchase with their bank.

That’s when the crooks strike a second time by sending a return label and package in which the item is

supposedly to be shipped back to the retailer.

But if you ship it before noticing that the address on the return label is not that of legitimate warehouse or place

of business, the retailer may hold you financially responsible for the cost of the stolen merchandise.

It’s a simple yet effective scam that preys on the overwhelming feeling you get when your credit card is

breached by criminals.

The lesson? Never return something you didn’t order without first verifying that it’s a legitimate address

to which you’re return shipping.

And sign up for email alerts from your bank! They’re free and put you on the front line of protecting your

accounts.

“It Takes a Community”

One of PLAMHO’s goals this year is to put Community back into Pine Lakes. We all moved to this senior community for different reasons. We came from different backgrounds and life experiences. But the fact is we are a here now and how can we help support the other residents in our community? Most of us grew up in a time when as someone drove down the street we waved at them or a neighbor would drop over with a fresh baked cake for your family. If someone was on vacation they told the neighbors and we all watched their house while they were gone. When someone went into the hospital, the whole neighbor knew why and paid a visit to them at the hospital. Then they would bring dinner to the spouse at home. I know it was a different time but we are trying to bring that sense of community back to Pine Lakes. Why can’t we have the same compassion for our neighbors as we did when we grew up? At any given time there are around five hundred residents that live in our community. Each one has a unique living situation. Some are financially better off than others, some are more physically able than others and some live alone. But this is our community. We should be looking out for the welfare of our neighbors making sure that they are OK and able to deal with the life situations that arise every day. Maybe it is something as simple as making sure that they open their blinds in the morning and if not we call to make sure they are having a good day. Random Acts of Kindness are the best way to achieve this goal. These actions could include bringing a neighbor’s newspaper to their door when they have difficulty walking. Walking a neighbor’s dog so that the dog gets exercise. You can bring a meal from an event to

someone who can’t attend the function. Taking a trash can to the street and returning it for someone that has difficulty in doing so. Give a dinner from your kitchen to someone that is ill or in mourning. Offer a ride to the doctor’s office or market for someone who has difficulty driving. Clean up a yard in the community for someone who is not able to do so or cannot afford the expenditure. These are just a few examples of ways we can help the people in our community and make it a better place for all of us to live. In the Prescott area there are also many free outside services that can help our residents make their everyday living better. One such organization is People who Care. These vetted volunteers will come out to your home and help you with everyday tasks and just keep you company for a while. Health Signal Partners will be a medical advocate for you to help you navigate the difficult Medicare programs. Senior Connection (www.SeniorConnection.us) is a local source of information as is the Caregiver Connection Newsletter at www.caregiverconnection.net . Both of these sites contain a variety of local information for anyone needing resources or help. A comprehensive Senior Citizen and Caregiver Resource Guide is also printed in the Prescott 2016-2017 Action Pages Telephone Directory, available from the Chamber of Commerce. These are just a few examples of the many free services available in our area. Community is what we are all about. Even our website is for and about the community (www.pinelakesprescott.com) There are many resources on the website that residents can access to make their lives better. If you are able help others, if you need help, seek out and find someone willing to help you or offer your help. We can all work together to assist each other and build a strong safety network within the community. On August 1ST PLAMHO and the Residents Association are supporting the National Night Out event. This is a nationwide program when residents of the community come together and have the opportunity to meet your neighbors, share some food and interface with the first responders in the community. This would be an excellent event for every resident in Pine Lakes to attend. More details will be forthcoming.
