A letter from Proexport CEO, Maria Claudia Lacouture, proposing candidacy for the World amateur team championship in 2016:

Colombia is the most diverse country in the world per square kilometer, tropical, Andean, and equatorial, surrounded by two oceans, located in the middle of America with easy access to all continents. It is, according to historians and experts in tourism, one of the most promising international destinations because of its economic success, sustainable development and the investment that is coming to the sector.

The Secretary - General of the World Tourism Organization, Mr. Taleb Rifai, said it just a few weeks ago, and just take a look at any recent press that has been monitoring and you will conclude, that very interesting things are happening in this nation of 46 million inhabitants and more than one million square kilometers of territory.

In addition to the 50 courses of excellent quality in Bogota, Cali, Medellin, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Bucaramanga and the Coffee Triangle, you will find a variety of landscapes, rich culture, and great warmth. The country is now a benchmark for high standards of quality of its courses and also a preferred destination for organizing conferences, seminars, exhibitions and incentive travel, sometimes closely associated with the sport.

At Proexport we work to offer new tourism products that complement the traditional ones, so for visitors can enjoy many experiences in one place, as it is one of the strengths of Colombia to position itself as a world-class destination.

We have been host of tournaments such as the PGA Nationwide Tour in Bogota, which was the first to be played in a country in South America; the Tour of the Americas, the Canadian Tour, the European Challenge and, we look forward the next one. Colombia is a golfer's home, Proexport will continue supporting this sport and its athletes.

You will be able to explore the vast richness of our country, its gastronomy, customs, culture as well as the warmth of our people, a hallmark of the Colombian community who will undoubtedly embrace you with open arms. Currently, Colombia is a benchmark for high standards in golf with excellent golf courses and landscape diversity. Here, you will find the best weather for golfing in traditional courses of admirable stature with staff available to assist you during your stay. We are certain that you will remember this event because Colombia is quickly showing its leadership in hosting large world-class events just like this one. To all our sponsors, the National Government, the District Government, Proexport Colombia and all those who have participated in this great enterprise, I personally thank you. Without your help, this grand event of amateur golf would not have been possible. Sincerely,

Lázaro Pérez MartínezPresident of Colombian Golf Federation

This is an open course with very few trees, the designer has taken masterly advantage of the natural topography, an uneven terrain and slick fairways and greens that require precise strokes. The players will enjoy the ondulated greens, also the course demands to be very precise from the tee, due to the narrow fairways for both amateurs and professional players who will also have to face cross shots to narrow greens. Nonetheless, the course´s design is also enjoyable and challenging for every golfer who plays it, we feel that the designer has used the land to create a very good facility.

The Gold MuseumA magic treasure in the center of Bogota.

The Bogota Gold Museum contains close to 34,000 gold pieces, plus 20,000 bone, stone, ceramic and textile articles belonging to 13 pre-Hispanic societies: Tumaco, Nariño, Cauca, Calima, San Agustín, Tierradentro, Tolima, Quimbaya, Muisca, Urabá and Chocó, Malagana, Zenú and Tayrona.

Simply entering the Museum is enough to notice its magical character. Part of the legacy of mysterious cultures, of which we only have fragmentary visions, is right there in plain sight of visitors.

The little that remained after all the barbarity and looting is exhibited - a treasure many pirates would have dreamt about. Hundreds, millions of pieces that survived the fog of many days and the rust of time lead us to think that these people, our ancestors, should have been named “People of Gold”.

It is incredible that, in the country where I learned to play, I can go from the beauty of its beaches to the magic of its moun-tains in less than an hour, on golf courses that both the PGA Nationwide and the European Tour endorsed for many consecu-tive years.

Western Zone / The western zone encompasses the departments of Cauca and Valle del Cauca and is one of the country´s main economic and industrial centers. The capital cities are Santiago de Cali and Popayan, with salsa dancing and gastronomy, respectively, as their main attraction.

The Western Zone offers a variety of climates, topographies and vegetation in a large diversity of environments. Playing golf on these courses makes the game an unforgettable experience, due to the topography and the vast expanses of land that allow the free execution of all kinds of golf strokes in the company of festive people.

Antioquia Zone / The department of Antioquia is located in northwestern Colombia and focuses its economic activities on agriculture and cattle raising, manufacturing and services. Its capital, Medellin, is the second city in Colombia in terms of population and economy. It is recognized as the epicenter of Latin American fashion and known for the diversity of its flowers.
