We have gathered a few things in this booklet that we think you should know about waste disposal and sorting your waste. On the back you will find a waste sorting poster which will hopefully help you with your daily recycling! WHAT IS A BASIC WASTE MANAGEMENT FEE? Based on waste legislation and regulations Napapiirin Residuum collects an annual waste management fee from all premises. The fee is used to cover the expenses of maintaining the waste management services and other authorized activities. WHO DOES THE FEE CONCERN? Every person owning a house or an apartment is obligated to pay an annual waste management fee. The amount of the fee for a permanent residence is 32,26 € per year and for a part time residence 16,13 € per year. WHAT KIND OF SERVICES ARE PRODUCED WITH THE FEE? The collection and treatment of recyclable and hazardous wastes are provided free of charge. Waste disposal advice and information about recycling are also given for free. Napapiirin Residuum also supplements the area’s Eco-point network and organizes waste collecting tours. Households can recycle most of their wastes at Eco-points or waste sorting stations free of charge. Daily wastes which cannot be recycled. Max. 50 x 50 x 50 cm.

• Diapers and other sanitary products• Textiles and shoes• Toys and office supplies• Cleaning supplies, e.g. vacuum cleaner bags

If not recycled:• Plastic bags and packaging• Biowaste Small amounts of unburnable waste, e.g. tableware and light bulbs.

Organic wastes.

• Food scraps• Fruit and vegetable skins and peels• Coffee and tea grounds, filter papers• Paper towels and napkins• Fish and other small bones• Plant parts and withered flowers• Small amounts of soil

If it’s not possible to compost or collect biowaste seperately it can be disposed with burnable waste.

Unburnable wastes which cannot be recycled.

• Glass of windows and mirrors• Glass and ceramic items, e.g. tableware• Light bulbs and halogen lamps and fuses• Porcelain items, e.g. toiletseats and sinks• Insulation panels and wool• Bitumen roofin felt• Plasterboard, e.g, Gyproc • Ashes

Small amounts can be sorted as burnable waste.

BURNABLE WASTE BIOWASTE LANDFILL WASTE

Used to generate energy in Laanila eco power plant.

Used as soil layers to close the landfill. To be used as biogas from year 2019 onwards.

To be placed in Kuusiselkä landfill.€ € €

WASTE SORTING STATIONS

Clean wood which is not treated in any way.

• Pallets and cable drums• Scraps from sawing and planing• Clean boards, laths etc.

Used to generate energy in a power plant.

Branches of trees and bushes.

• Branches and trunks of trees• Branches of bushes• All twigs

Tree stumps and roots need to be weighed and paid for.

You can also chip the twigs and branches and use them as ground covers or compost them with biowaste.

Leaves, rakings, plants and plant parts.

• The leaves of all trees and bushes• Scraps from mowing the lawn• Scraps from garden, e.g. vegetable tops• Root lumps of bushes and other plants• Small amounts of soil

You can also compost your garden wastes.

Attention! Invasive plant species, such as Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera), and their parts belong in burnable waste.

Wastes that cause harm to people or the environment.
