From my first encounter with Waso i was taken with its wonderful mixture of British professionalism, american efficiency and work ethic, and German precision and sound culture. it’s an orchestra with which one can concentrate on making music and achieve great heights.

What will i bring to this wonderful mix? My passion for great music, my commitment to excellence and my experience, which i’ve accumulated roaming the music world over the last thirty years.

Beethoven’s Eroica

Saturday 23 August 7.30pm

Perth concert Hall

Beethoven is said to have loved the Eroica more than any of his symphonies apart from the ninth. originally dedicated to napoleon Bonaparte and inspired by the French revolution and the German Enlightenment, the Eroica is also a deeply personal portrait of the composer. Yearning to strike out on a new path and determined to overcome his encroaching deafness, Beethoven announced his triumphant resolve to overcome adversity with a bold new style and a symphony unprecedented in its length, rhythmic power and heroic spirit.

Sunday 24 August 3pm

Beethoven the provocateur is revealed even in his First symphony. its tantalising opening teases before transforming into a symphony that is full of joy, urgency and good-humour.

Beethoven’s revolutionary Fifth symphony is an epic work that captures the transcendent spirit of the age. described by the composer as “Fate knocking at the door”, the Fifth’s famous opening four notes launch a symphonic journey from tension to triumph, culminating in a finale of exhilarating power, exuberance and grandeur.

Beethoven’s Pastoral

Friday 29 August 7.30pm

Perth concert Hall

inspired by his deep love of the countryside, Beethoven’s Pastoral symphony is a captivating portrayal of nature’s splendour and power; from birds, bubbling streams, shepherds and dancing peasants to a terrifying thunderstorm.

Beethoven’s seventh symphony was famously described by Wagner as “the apotheosis of the dance” and the music virtually overflows with an immense rhythmic vitality.

all over the world i have been privileged to see and be a part of the extraordinary and beautiful work achieved through the generosity of philanthropic partnerships. it is always wonderful to meet the community of philanthropists who support the musical worlds i have been a part of, and the Patrons of Waso are no exception. i very much look forward to meeting you all.

the Waso Philanthropy program is a wonderful way for Patrons to support their orchestra. Philanthropy at Waso is so much more than giving to an organisation you love, it is joining in partnership with this wonderful orchestra to continue sharing the joy of music throughout Western australia. it is a partnership with a very clear vision: to touch souls and enrich lives through music.

i look forward to the 2014 Waso season; it will be a vibrant, exciting and rewarding year. i invite you to join the extraordinary community that supports this wonderful orchestra by becoming a Patron in 2014.

Asher Fisch Principal conductor & artistic adviser

the generosity of our Patrons is inspiring and sustains our ability to be at the cultural heart of Western australia.

the commitment of our Patrons is directly linked to our success. our Patrons become closer to the orchestra and form a special community of supporters. We proudly acknowledge the support of our Patrons who enable us to achieve our vision.

there are many ways you can support Waso through annual donations to major gifts and bequests. all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
