vs. Connecticut 6/3 (AP): Jasmine Thomas scored 25 points, hitting four 3-pointers, to help the Connecticut Sun beat the Washington Mystics 88-64. Alex Bent-ley added 15 points, Chiney Ogwumike had 11 points and nine rebounds and three blocks for the Sun. Ariel Atkins led the Mystics with 14 points. Washington was missing star Elena Delle Donne for the fourth straight game due to an illness. Thomas scored four points during an 11-4 opening run and Connecticut never trailed. Myisha Hines-Allen's offensive rebound and putback pulled the Mystics within two late in the second quarter but they would get no closer. Thomas an-swered with a three-pointer to spark a 12-0 run that made it 49-35 at the break. The Sun shot 47 percent from the field, hit 10 three-pointers and outrebounded Washington 45-31. The Mystics made just 3 of 21 (15 percent) from three-point range.

at Connecticut 6/13 (AP): Elena Delle Donne scored 36 points, Kristi Toliver added 25 and the Washington Mystics blew a 30-point lead before rallying past the Connecticut Sun, 95-91. Washington led 31-15 at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 57-27 late in the second on Toliver's 3-pointer. Connecticut rallied in the second half, and Courtney Williams gave the Sun their first lead of the game at 77-76 with 6:58 remaining. But Delle Donne scored Washington's next 10 points for an 86-83 lead. Chiney Ogwumike's steal and fast-break layup gave Connecticut an 87-86 lead, but Toliver answered at the other end with a long 3-pointer for her first points of the second half. Jasmine Thomas sank a baseline jumper to pull Connecticut to 93-91 with 12 seconds left. Toliver sealed it with two free throws to snap a three-game losing streak for Washington.

vs. Connecticut 6/26/18 (AP): Elena Delle Donne scored 25 points, her third game with at least 25 points in the last five, as the Mystics defeated the Sun 92-80. Washington trailed by as many as 12 in the second quarter before going on a 51-24 run through the third quarter to take a 76-61 lead entering the fourth. The Sun got as close as six points with four minutes remaining, but the Mystics put the game away with at late 9-0 run. New Mystic

Washington has acquired Aerial Powers from the Dallas

Wings on July 24 in exchange for guard Tayler Hill and the

team’s 2019 second round pick. Dallas will have the option to

switch first round picks in 2019 based on Washington’s record.

Powers is expected to be in uniform when the Mystics face the

Sun tonight.

All-Stars

Washington Mystics players Elena Delle Donne and Kristi Toliver have been named to the 2018 All-Star game present-ed by Verizon. This is the fifth All-Star recognition for Delle Donne who will serve as one of the All-Star team captains. A 10-year WNBA veteran, it is the second All-Star nod of Toli-ver’s career. She has started every game this season for the Mystics and is averaging 14.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. Toliver is playing a career-high 32.9 minutes per game and shooting a career-best 91.7% from the free-throw line. Delle Donne and Toliver will play on the same team in the All-Star game, taking place on Friday, July 27 on ESPN2.

Career Night

Against the Dallas Wings, LaToya Sanders scored 25 points

on 10-of-13 shooting, her first career game with 20 points.

Sanders is shooting 63.9 percent from the field this season,

the highest percentage amongst players with at least 100 at-

tempts this season.

Milestones Reached

Forward Elena Delle Donne recently became the fastest play-

er in WNBA history to score 3000 career points. In the game

against the New York Liberty, Delle Donne added six re-

bounds for her 1000th career rebound.

300 Club

Mike Thibault is the winningest coach in the WNBA and the

first to reach 300 career wins, a feat he accomplished when

Washington defeated Los Angeles on July 7.

Turning it Over

Washington is averaging 15.8 points per game off of opponent’s turno-

vers this season. The Mystics have at least 10 points off of turnovers in

all but two games this with a season-high 27 at Chicago on June 22.

Heating Up

Elena Delle Donne has averaged 26.2 points per game over

the last 15 games, scoring at least 20 points in seven of those

games and three games where she recorded at least 30

points.

Player of the Month

Delle Donne was named the Player of the Month for June after

being named Player of the Week for the second time this sea-

son. It is the third Player of the Month honor of Delle Donne’s

career (May 2014 and June 2015).

Delle Donne led the Eastern Conference in free throw percent-

age, shooting 98% (43-44) from the line (second in the WNBA)

and was second in the conference in points per game with

22.5 (second in the WNBA) while averaging 6.8 rpg and 2.4

apg for the month.

EDD Block Party

Ever since her return from illness, Elena Delle Donne has

recorded 29 blocks in her last 15 games, including a season-

high five at Dallas on 7/19. Delle Donne is now seventh in the

league with a 1.6 blocks per game average.

Dominating the Second

Washington outscored Chicago 21-11 in the second quarter

on 6/19, and now hold a 21.2-18.1 average advantage in the

second quarter this season. The Mystics have allowed fewer

than 20 points in the second quarter 15 times this season,

they are 9-5 in those games.

Dynamic Duo

at NY 7/21/18 (AP) When Elena Delle Donne gets going early, it makes the Washington Mystics' offense flow so much better. The All-Star captain had 15 of her 30 points in the opening period to help Washington beat the New York Liberty 95-78 on Satur-day.'It definitely helps the spread the floor better when I'm hitting shots,'' said Delle Donne, who also had 10 rebounds. She hit all six of her shots in the opening period, including three 3-pointers - most of them just swishing through the net. The Mystics won for only the second time in their past six games and sit in a three-way tie for fourth in the league. Washington (14-10) led by eight at the half, and Delle Donne and Kristi Toliver combined for 20 points of the team's 32 points in the third quarter to extend the advantage to 75-53. Toliver finished with 19 points and eight assists. New York (7-17) tried to get back in the game behind rookie Kia Nurse, who had eight straight points during one stretch to get the Liberty within 11. But that's as close as they could come. New York is all but assured of missing the playoffs this season after making the postseason the past three years.

Tina Charles scored 22 points, including her 3,000th in New York. Sugar Rodgers added 16 for the Liberty.

In her 10th WNBA season, Kristi Toliver is currently averag-

ing near-career highs in points per game (14.0), field goal per-

Toliver’s six made threes at Connecticut on 6/13 were the

most by a player at the time — the fourth of the sixth threes

was also Toliver’s 100th three with the Mystics. Her 2.2 threes

per game average sustained throughout the entire season

would give her 75 threes, just behind Ivory Latta’s record of 81

set in the 2014 season.

She’s back

Monique Currie returned to the Mystics after signing as a free

agent this off season. A 12-year WNBA veteran, Currie spent

the majority of her career with the Mystics (2007-2014). Currie

was selected in the first round (third overall) of the 2006

WNBA Draft by the Charlotte Sting and went on to be the first

overall pick by the Chicago Sky in the 2007 Dispersal Draft. In

the last three seasons, she has played for the Phoenix Mercu-

ry and San Antonio Stars. In 2017, Currie played in 36 games

due to being traded from San Antonio to Phoenix in the middle

of the season, a feat accomplished by only two other players

(Renee Montgomery and Katie Smith).

Get Monumental

For the fourth consecutive year, Monumental Sports Network

will broadcast all of the Washington Mystics games for the

2018 season. Exceptions include the game streaming on Twit-

ter (May 29) and the nationally televised games scheduled to

air on ESPN (June 13, July 19 and Aug. 19).

#TOGETHERDC

This season, the Mystics marketing campaign #TOGETHERDC will be

incorporated on all of the team’s platforms. #TOGETHERDC is a cam-

paign encouraging DC to join the team on their journey both on the

court and in the community.

We’re a team of strong women who represent and play hard for our

city. Together we’ll celebrate victories, and together we’ll be there to

pick each other up when we fall down. We are a part of DC, and DC is

a part of us—every fan, every neighborhood, every ward.

Everything we do, we’ll do #TOGETHERDC.

Mike Thibault was named the head coach/general manager of the Washington Mystics on

December 18, 2012. Thibault earned his third WNBA Coach of the Year recognition following

the 2013 season. The winningest coach in WNBA history with 301 wins, Thibault has led

Washington to three consecutive postseason appearances (2013-2015) and in 2017, the team

made it past the first round of the playoffs for the first time in 15 years.

Prior to joining the Mystics, Thibault was the head coach of the Connecticut Sun where he was

twice named WNBA Coach of the Year (2006, 2008) and led the team to eight playoff

appearances and two WNBA Finals. He set numerous milestones during his time with the Sun,

including becoming the second coach in WNBA history to reach 200 wins, the third-fastest

coach in league history to reach 100 wins (doing so in 159 games) and the fourth WNBA head

coach to work at least 300 regular season games.

From 2003 through 2008, Thibault and the Connecticut Sun won 127 regular season games,

tying with the Detroit Shock for the most victories during that six-year span. The Sun were one

of two teams to have six consecutive winning seasons. Connecticut posted consecutive 26-8

records in 2005 and 2006, which are still the best regular season results for an Eastern

Conference team.

Thibault assisted in the blockbuster trade that sent Lindsay Whalen and the No. 2 pick in the

2010 WNBA Draft to Minnesota in exchange for second-year guard Renee Montgomery and

the No. 1 pick in 2010, which the team used to select Tina Charles. Under Thibault’s tutelage,

Charles was named the league’s MVP in 2012.

Thibault joined the professional coaching ranks in 1978 as a scout for the Los Angeles Lakers

and was quickly promoted to Director of Scouting and assistant coach in 1980. During his

tenure with the Lakers, the team won two NBA Championships. From 1982-1986, he served

as the Director of Player Personnel and assistant coach for the Chicago Bulls when the

organization selected Michael Jordan, Charles Oakley and traded for John Paxson.

Thibault served as the general manager and head coach of the Omaha Racers of the

Continental Basketball Association (CBA) where his team captured the league’s title in 1993. During his tenure with the Racers,

the team made eight consecutive playoff appearances,

and Thibault was named the 1993 Sportsman of the Year by Omaha broadcasters. He ranks

sixth on the CBA all-time coaching victory list (236). Thibault also coached the Calgary 88’s of the World Basketball League

(WBL) where he received Coach of the Year honors in 1988.

Following his time in Omaha, Thibault was a scout for the Seattle Sonics and immediately

prior to joining the Sun in 2003, he was an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks for four seasons.

Thibault has had an extensive collaboration with USA Basketball. He most recently served as an assistant coach to the women’s

National Team that won gold during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He was on the coaching staff of the 2006 National Team that

captured bronze during the World Championships, was the head coach of the men’s team that won the gold medal at the 1993

FIBA World Championship qualifying tournament and was also at the helm of the men’s team that won the silver medal at the

1995 Pan American Games.

Mike and his wife Nanci have been staunch supporters of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation since Mike’s days with the Omaha Rac-

ers. In 2007, the Thibaults were co-chairs of GREAT STRIDES, the primary fundraiser of the CF Foundation’s Connecticut

Chapter. The Thibaults have carried their support of the local community where they live and play by donating tickets to every

Washington Mystics games to community organizations.

Mike and Nanci have two children. Eric is an assistant coach with the Mystics while Carly is an assistant coach at the University

of Minnesota.
