gram of the total eclipse of the sun which
takes place oa Monday next and a recordof the calculations of the eclipse bothmade a half century ago are the uniquepossessions of E H Norman President o
Baltimore Business Collegeand calculations were made
by Mr Normans father William JosephNorman and are December 1 1S49
when the elder Mr was a resident-
of Alexandria Va for which meridian thecalculations are made
In addition to diagrams showing thefirst contact the maximum phase andthe end of the eclipse Mr Norman pre-
pared a diagram showing the orbit of thesun moon and earth in their respectiveangles in relation to one another
with the exact spot ia the sunspathway where the moon appears to coverits disk and obscure its light from theearth
Mr Norman wrote below the diagramsthe results of his astronomical calculations as follows A projection of aneclipse of the sun to appear on the 2Sthday of May 1900 Beginning of eclipse37 minutes after 7 oclock a m Greatestobscuration 49 minutes after 8 End 11
