REMINDER OF CEMETERY FLOWERS: Just a reminder that during the summer grass cutting season to please limit the number of decorations placed on graves in our cemeteries. It is very difficult to cut and weed-eat around too many decorations and flowers. And, because the people who do the grass cutting & weed-eating are parishioner volunteers, we ask you to take into consideration the work that needs to be done. We are always looking for more help! Call the rectory office if you can volunteer a few hours. Thank you! Also, we will remove old decorations as necessary, so if you want them, you need to come pick them up.

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – Fed by God The readings today drive the point home to us that God provides for all our needs. One of the most widespread problems we embrace in our culture is an excessive degree of self-reliance. There is nothing wrong with preparation and hard work, but there is also nothing wrong with asking for God to provide for us in our need. We pray that God would give us our daily bread every time we go to Mass. Jesus reminds us in the Gospel passage that He will provide for us abundantly when we ask Him. He knows the exact manner in which we need nourishment, both bodily and spiritual. This principle of trusting in God’s providence is central to our labors of evangelization, which are ultimately in the hand of God. We can certainly plant seeds and accompany others in the path of discipleship, but we cannot make someone convert to Catholicism or become a saint by our own personal effort. This week, consider how you are in need and ask for God’s help to sustain you. “May your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in you” (Ps 33:22). archstl.org/dynamic

Part-time faith, like part-time jobs, cannot fully support you.

*PLEASE NOTE: The parish office will close at noon on Monday, July 31st. Angie will be attending a meeting in St. Louis.

We are seeking some items for a small raffle, a small bag of charcoal, lemonade & a 12 pack of soda if anyone would like to donate any one of these. Please drop it off at the Office. Thank you so much for your continued generosity.

Pope Francis On Dealing With Death “In the People of God, by the grace of his compassion granted in Jesus, many families prove by their deeds that death does not have the last word. This is a true act of faith. Every time a family in mourning-even terrible mourning- finds the strength to guard the faith and love that unite us to those we love, it has already prevented death from taking everything. The darkness of death should be confronted with a more intense work of love. ‘My God, lighten my darkness!’ is the invocation of evening prayer. In the light of the resurrection of the Lord, who abandons none of those who the Father entrusted to him, we can take the ‘sting’ out of death, as the Apostle Paul says (1 Cor 15:55); we can prevent it from poisoning life, from rendering vain our love, from pushing us into the darkest chasm. -General Audience, June 17, 2015

THIS WEEKS READINGS From now until the end of August, the Gospel will be a selection from a single chapter of John—the chapter in which Jesus reveals himself as the Bread of Life, the one whose Body and Blood can bring eternal life. This chapter begins with Jesus feeding thousands by multiplying the loaves and fish, but we begin today with Elisha, a “man of God,” who feeds a hundred people with twenty small loaves. Listening to the readings today, note all the acts of generosity. QUESTION OF THE WEEK-In my experience, have I seen someone’s generosity (perhaps my own) provide something that went much further than could be expected? What can I entrust to Jesus to satisfy the hunger of others? How can I, as a member of the Church—the body of Christ—contribute to the multiplication of what we have been given?

THANK YOU! I just wanted to take a moment and thank our parish for their generosity. I was able to take 4 of our teens to the Steubenville conference in Springfield Missouri without any cost to their families. I would also like to thank the parents of those teens for allowing me to experience the Word with them. It was truly amazing to watch them become closer to God and in turn strengthen my relationship with the Lord. I look forward to next year's conference and hope I can take even more of our young people with us. Anita Hahn
