THIS WEEKS READINGS John the Baptist challenges the crowds in today’s Gospel. Eager to follow him, they ask what they should do. John responds with practical guidance: share your food and clothing, act honorably, be honest. We are not told what they do, but we are told they were filled with expectation. As we listen to God’s word, filled with expectation with a week and a half until Christmas, let us take John’s guidance to heart. QUESTION OF THE WEEK Knowing that God is in our midst, how can I answer the question from the Gospel: “What should I do?”

December 16th- 3rd Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday) Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – More Joy! Happy Gaudete Sunday! How comforting and inspiring the First Reading from Zephaniah is: God rejoices over us and delights in us! When we understand and stand firm in the truth that our God rejoices in us, we are able to rejoice and shout for joy as well. Just because we are joyful in the Lord does not mean that everything is perfect in our life or that there are no hardships we must wrestle with daily. We will continue to face trials in this earthly life- sickness, loss, and pain- but the joy of the Lord and our joy in Him will sustain us in the long run. Our challenge for today and the rest of this week is to pray for an outpouring of joy in our lives and a deeper understanding of the joy God has because of us. When we are truly grateful for the gifts we have received in life and embrace our identity as adopted sons and daughters of God, loved completely by our Creator, we can experience authentic joy and share it with others so that they too might experience the Good News of salvation.

NOTE FROM THE OFFICE The 2019 envelopes are ready to be picked up. They’re on the tables in the back of church.

THANK YOU- We would like to thank you all for your concern & support during the illness & passing of our brother, David Courtaway. To know him was to love him & he was known & loved by more than I can count. He was a joyful man who brought laughter wherever he went. We honor him with our laughter & joy. There is a peace that surpasses all understanding & David wants that for all of us. He has found it…..He is resting with the Lord. But that peace does exist here on earth too & we pray for all to find it. Sincerely, Pam, Kim & Tina

December 16th- Word of LIfe “In 1531, when the indigenous peoples of Mexico were subjugated and the practice of human sacrifice was still a recent memory, the Mother of God appeared to St. Juan Diego as a pregnant native woman, now known as Our Lady of Guadalupe. She sent him with miraculous flowers in his cloak to tell the bishop to build a church where people could receive her Son and her loving, tender care. When St. Juan Diego opened the cloak before the bishop, an image of Our Lady was revealed that remains to this day. The chapel was quickly built, millions embraced Christianity, and the Church increased its protection of the indigenous peoples.” USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities 2018-19 Respect Life Reflection, www.usccb.org/respect-life-reflection
