Entering Your Fair Project Online You will need to go the Fair’s website www.washingtoncofair.com use the search

window and type the specie name. You will see the link under each heading. Each exhibitor will need to set themselves up with a login, which will include capturing their contact information. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the

Fair office at 979-836-4112.

When you show up to your species validation you need to have the following:

1. W-9 (One per Exhibitor)

2. Release of Liability, Indemnity and Drug Certfication (One Per Exhibitor)

3. Paper Entry Form

4. Receipt From Showorks with your online entry

Project Help

It is that time of year to discuss what projects you want to become involved in for

the 2016 Washington County Fair. If you have questions about where to go to look

for animals, or what to look for, come by or call Charles at the County Extension

Office. We want you to have a great experience and will be happy to help you get

started on the right track.

Project Visits

If you would like to schedule a project visit, call or email Charles at the Extension

Office to schedule a time to meet. We are happy to help any family that would like

for us to check out their project and answer any questions they may have.

Washington County Fair Meeting Rules

Please be aware that in order to exhibit an animal in the 2016 Washington County

Fair, returning 4-H members must attend at least 5 Community 4-H Club Meetings.

Families have an opportunity to attend another club’s meeting one time during the

year. First time exhibitors must attend at least HALF of their community 4-H club

meetings once they have registered for 4-H in order to be eligible to exhibit an

animal in the fair. This is in addition to attending the minimum number of species

meetings required by the Fair Species Chairman.

Upcoming Major Validation

If you are planning on exhibiting an animal project at the State Fair of Texas or

Heart of Texas Livestock Shows, your animal projects must be validated. Below are

the dates and times in which validations will occur.

State Fair Lamb, Goat and Hog Validation - June 16th

Lambs and Goats 5:00-5:30p

Hogs 5:30-6:30p

Fairgrounds Barn 2

2016-2017 Major Steer Validation - June 27th and June 28th

5:00-7:00pm Both Days. Show up on either day.

Spring Heifer Validation - June 29th

5:00-7:00pm

$10 per head validated will be due at time of validation

Remember heifers only have to be validated once in their show career unless they change

ownership or you wish to validate in a different breed.

County Council and Parent Association Meetings

May 3rd July 5th

Meetings start at 6:30pm in Fairgrounds Sales Facility

Just a reminder that is an officer responsibility of the President, Vice President, and Council Delegates of each club to attend the County Council Meetings and

report back to their clubs the decisions and programs going on at the County Level.

We encourage all club managers, project leaders, and parent leaders to attend the Parent Association meetings. These two groups help shape the 4-H program on the

county level. Come make sure your voice, and the voice of your club is heard.

Washington County 4-H Day Camp

Friday, June 3rd

Woodmen of the World Camp (5193 Hwy 36 S)

Cost: $15 per child

Registration Deadline: May 13th

Come join us for our annual day camp at the Woodmen of the World Youth Campsite between Brenham and Bellville. It is always a great time with our Ag

Olympics where campers have an opportunity to compete against each other for bragging rights. After wards, we will have great sessions such as Wildlife, Fishing,

Archery, Swimming and much more. County Camp Registration Forms are available here.

Registration forms are due May 13th, and 4-H members are encouraged to bring friends, even if those friends haven't found out about the great things in 4-H yet.

4-H members who are in 8th grade and up that would like to serve as counselors, please fill out and turn in a registration form and make sure to check the box

where it asks whether or not you would like to be a counselor.

4-H Recordbook and Star Award Information

The due date for all 4-H Recordbooks and Star Award Applications to be turned

into the County Extension Office is June 13th. No Recordbooks or applications will

be accepted after that date. Interviews for Star Awards are scheduled for July 6th.

Please schedule your interview time with Nancy when you turn in your 4-H

Recordbook and Star Award Application.

If you would like help revising your Recordbook before you turn it in, make sure to

bring it to Charles at the Extension on or before May 31st. This will ensure that

there is enough time to give your book the attention it deserves. Recordbook

forms, tips, family guidelines and more are available here.

Star Award Guidelines

Requirement: Must complete a Recordbook for the 2015-2016 4-H year and must

undergo an interview with a panel of judges on July 6th.

Outstanding Rookie - Open to all first year members regardless of age

Bronze Star - Open to all Jr. 4-H Members in grades 3-5. You may only win this

award once.

Silver Star - Open to all Intermediate 4-H Members in grades 6-8. You may only

win this award once.

Workhorse - Open to all Senior 4-H Members in grades 9-12. Award given only

once in a 4-Her’s career. No interview is required to apply for this award.

Danforth I Dare You - Open to all Senior 4-H members in grades 9-12. Award can

be won only once.

Gold Star - The highest award a 4-Her can achieve. Open only to Senior 4-H

members who have previously won EITHER the Danforth I Dare You Award or the

Workhorse Award. You can only win the Gold Star once in your 4-H career.

4-H Honor Roll, 4-H All Star, and 4-H Letterman are all performance based awards

that do not require an interview. Simply turn in your application with checking all

that applies to your 4-H career.

Shooting Sports Meetings

Air Rifle

The last Air Rifle practice for the 2015-2016 4-H Year will be held on May 9th at

the Fairgrounds Sales Facility. Practice will run from 6:00-7:30pm

Archery

Archery Practices will be held on the following dates from 6:00-7:30pm

May 3rd, May 10th, May 17th, May 24th and May 31st.

Photography Meeting

Monday, May 23rd

6:00pm in the Fairgrounds VIP Building

The May photography project meeting will review the pictures taken downtown

and discuss photo quality and technique. If you are interested in entering pictures

for the Fair, come join our Photography Project Group to learn how to shoot and

select high quality photographs!

Coke Tabs For Ronald McDonald House

Starting at the January Club Meetings, the County Council will be

sponsoring a community service competition between all of our 4-H Clubs. Start

collecting coke can tabs in milk jugs and bring them to your club meetings, or by

the Extension Office. At the end of May, we will weigh all of the coke can tabs and

the club who donated the most will have pizza delivered to their June or July club

meeting, compliments of the County 4-H Council. These tabs will be donated to

the benefit of the Ronald McDonald House for Charity.

District 11 4-H Horse Show

The District 11 4-H Horse Show will be held Tuesday and Wednesday June 14-15,

2016 at the Brackenridge Event Center in Edna, TX.

All Horse MUST have been validated in the Texas 4-H Validation Program.

Deadline to register on www.4honline.com is May 27th.

All horses must have a current copy of a negative coggins test in order to be

allowed on the grounds

New For 2016!

Age Divisions will be used for Judged Western, Speed, Hunter-Flat and

Stockhorse Divisions. Age divisions will be based on grade level. Junior/

Intermediate - 3rd grade to 8th grade. Senior - 9th grade to 12th grade.

Stockhorse Showmanship has been added to the working order.

Roping will not be offered due to a lack of past participation.

The Stockhorse Division requires a minimum of 5 entries for the class to be

offered. Families will be notified if the classes do not make.

District 11 Leadership Lab

When: June 20th - 22nd

Where: State 4-H Conference Center in Brownwood, TX

Registration Deadline: June 3rd on www.4online.com

Cost: $165.00

The District 11 4-H Leadership Lab will be held at the Texas 4-H Conference Center

in Brownwood, TX from June 20-22. This event is open to all members who are

currently in 8th - 11th grade. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn new and

exciting leadership skills, network with other 4-H members from different

counties, as well as learn more about the 4-H program on the District Level. For

District 11 4-H Junior Leadership Lab

Date: July 12, 2016

Location: Matagorda Bay Nature Park, 6430 FM 2031 Matagorda TX 77457 Entry/Registration Deadline: 4-H Connect deadline June 24, 2016

Entry Fee: $30 for ALL youth participants (includes lunch, snacks, t-shirt, programming

supplies, facility rental & insurance)

$20 for adults, parents, agents and teen leaders wanting a Jr. Lab t-shirt (must register via 4-H Connect)

$5 for adults, parents, agents, and teen leaders NOT ordering a shirt

(register via 4-H Connect)

The District 11 4-H Jr. Leadership Lab is a youth leadership event held for Junior

and Intermediate Members in the 3rd-7th grades. If you would like to register as a

youth leader for this event, please make sure to register on 4-H Connect.

Participants have the opportunity to learn leadership skills such as team building,

networking and more in fun, fast paced sessions centered around having fun in the

sun at Matagorda Bay.

Texas 4-H Livestock Ambassador Program

2016 Texas 4-H Livestock Ambassador Short Courses:

Texas Tech University/West Texas A&M University July 5-8, 2016

Cost: $200

Texas A&M University July 18-21, 2016

Cost: $200

Selection Criteria:

Senior age (14-18) 4-H youth that have exhibited a superior level of ambition regarding his/her livestock projects.

Students with a profound interest in animal science and animal production.

Students have shown advanced leadership qualities and a willingness to help others.

Top 25% class rank

Application Process:

Student will complete the application and enter the contact information of supervising County Extension Agent.

CEA will be automatically emailed a recommendation survey.

A selection committee will review the applications and accept 25 participants per University.

Applications are due June 1, 2016. Applicants will be notified by June 17, 2016 regarding application result.

Texas 4-H Congress

Make a difference and lead the future by participating in 2016 Texas 4-H

Congress. Bring to life your Texas History and Government classes by experiencing

first hand how legislative bills become state laws by serving in the roles of House of

Representatives or Senators. Sit in the seats of the Texas Capitol Chambers to hear,

and offer, debate on your thoughts on improving the State of Texas.

If you are an freshman to a graduating senior high school 4-H member interested in

participating contact Charles Seely to see how to represent your county at the 2016

Texas 4-H Congress.

Each youth attending will need to register on-line in 4-H CONNECT between May 1st

and May 31st. Additionally, each youth is required to submit a legislative bill for

consideration.
