Weekly Newsleer - September 27, 2015 Warwick Weekly “You are redeemed to ripple. .” Paul and Barnabus were chosen to fulfill the call of God. When they spread the word of the Lord to the Gentiles, the image of God in them was so powerful that the Gentiles thought the apostles were their false gods. Paul told them that he and Barbabas were mortals like them, sent by the living God to share the good news of His love. Like the apostles, we have the Holy Spirit working in us so that through our love we can take on the image of God. Together, our church community has power in the ripples we make in this world. Love is the pebble that makes those ripples. God has brought us together to share His love and be fruitful. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (NSRV) We know that God provides for all our needs and we are abundantly blessed. Our mission to fulfill the will of God is dependent on our faithfulness and generosity. We encourage you to be in prayer about your part in our church’s work here and out into the community and world. “God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.” 2 Cor 9:8 (NSRV) Remember our “Redeemed to Ripple” worship series ends on the first Sunday in November with our Stewardship/Pledge Sunday in which we all will be asked to consider pledging our giving commitment to the church operating budget for 2016. As you hear the inspiring messages and experience God’s grace in our church this fall, please be discerning and prayerful about your planned contributions for our collective ripple effect in 2016! Thank you for your generosity! The Warwick Memorial UMC Stewardship Team Don’t Forget: Church Mugs and Magnets are still available in between worship services at the welcome stations. Mugs are $6 and magnets are $4. They are also available from the church office during the week. Show your church pride and place one of these awesome magnets on your car today! Coffee With the Pastors: If you are new to the church, or thinking about joining the church, please join the pastors for coffee, tea, and light refreshments next Sunday, October 4th at 10:10am in the Library, near the main office. Next Week is World Communion Sunday: Around the globe, countless gifted and qualified people face financial obstacles that hinder them from preparing for the vocation God has given them, especially youth and young adults. For ethnic students who will be the first generation in their families to attend college, or for those people of color who haven’t historically had access to resources that make higher education possible, the road toward education has often been unwieldy. What would it look like if the church today imitated Jesus’ affirmation of the full dignity and God-given potential of all women and men—especially those who’ve historically been assigned to the world’s margins? On World Communion Sunday your giving helps to provide scholarships for national and international graduate students whom God has gifted to learn and to serve.

Equipping Disciples Like Mary Grace to Serve in Jesus’ Name

As a small child Mary Grace Galapon labored as a housemaid in exchange for food and clothing. Yet, allowed to attend church, she found hope. As a member of The United Methodist Church, your giving on World Communion Sunday has allowed this deaconess, of the Mindanao Phillipines Annual Conference, to pursue an education that is now changing her community as she works to eliminate poverty. Mary Grace’s work, and the impact of hundreds more like her, are possible because you give.

Will You Equip World-Changers? Will you give generously on World Communion Sunday to make education and vocational impact possible for more students, like Mary Grace? Will you equip gifted and qualified students from around the globe to become the world-changers God created them to be?

Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” And because the people of The United Methodist Church believe that all of God’s children have been created and gifted to build the kingdom Jesus ushered in, we’re resourcing them to do just that. Because of your giving on World Communion Sunday, the most powerful tool to change the world is in more hands. Join us next week as we celebrate World Communion Sunday. Look for the offering envelope inside your bulletin next Sunday which will include additional information about this important offering.

UMCOR Helps The Middle Eastern Refugees and Migrants: In a recent statement concerning the migration crisis in Europe and around the world, Thomas Kemper, general secretary of Global Ministries, of which UMCOR is a part, cites the agency’s ongoing work with international partners in bringing assistance to those uprooted and displaced from Syria, Iraq, and elsewhere.

A portion of the statement read: “For years, UMCOR has worked with partners in serving persons displaced by fighting in Syria and Iraq, and persons temporarily living in other Middle Eastern locations or making their way westward. To date, UMCOR has allocated $2 million to provide the basics of life to persons displaced in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Turkey. Middle Eastern countries of far less affluence than the nations of Europe have proportionately admitted many, many more migrants than are now entering Europe. Our work among those displaced persons must continue. In addition, UMCOR is collaborating with partners to provide for refugee families in Greece, including the islands of Lesbos and Kos. With an Italian partner, it is responding to refugees from North Africa arriving in Sicily and other parts of Italy.”

Kemper went on to state that next steps in ministries with asylum seekers will be guided by recommendations from the European Methodist Council in a meeting set for this month.

Kemper also emphasized that “European and international ecumenical organizations are urging all of the churches and church-related humanitarian organizations to collaborate in the long-term work of resettlement, much of which will be in Europe. Concerning the Middle East, we have long-term relationships with the Middle East Council of Churches and its member communions.”

Your gifts to the International Disaster Response, Advance #982450 will support UMCOR's ongoing work with refugees and migrants, and in response to other emergencies across the globe. Make your gift payable to WMUMC and write IDR Advance in the memo line.

Attention Ladies:

Does the thought of Christmas stress you out?

Even with your best intentions, do you sometimes feel that you do not have time to truly focus on "the true meaning of the Season?"

Do you desire a strong spiritual connection for your holiday season?

Join Rev. Gina Anderson-Cloud as she guides and encourages participants to offer true hospitality to Jesus this Christmas. Through teaching, prayer and creative exploration, Pastor Gina will lead the group to a place of spiritual readiness while offering practical/intentional strategies to approach Christmas with joy and expectation.

Thank you for a faithful summer of giving! In recent years, our funds from the offering have run very low in summertime, while people are away on travel, etc. During the summer months last year, our finance team had to dip into reserves and prioritize paying bills. Thanks to your faithfulness at end of these last weeks of summer 2015, we are in a much different place this year. We are running ahead in offerings/givings in comparison to our expenses. Almost every church experiences some “summer slump” in both attendance and givings as people get de-focused in their practice of faithfulness in summer. We are so thankful that this did not happen at Warwick Memorial this year in terms of your faithfulness in giving. Praise God for generosity and faithfulness! Thank you all! Together, in faithfulness as a congregation, we are able to ripple, to be about our mission of making disciples of Jesus for the transformation of the world. Please know that it is our deep joy to serve as your pastors! In Christ, Pastor Gina & Pastor Bert

Household Prayers for the Week

Morning Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Living Word, shine on this day. Quicken my steps and open my ears that I might approach each neighbor with an expectant heart. Amen. Evening Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Beacon of truth, I entrust to you now the day that has been: the tasks accomplished and tasks overlooked; the friends acknowledged and the friends ignored; the silence kept and the silence squandered. In your mercy, mend these tattered offerings. Grant me the gift of rest this night and good companions on the morrow, as you speak me further down the path toward home. Amen.
