1 Warranwood Primary School www.warranwood.vic.edu.au PRINCIPAL’S REPORT CLASS OF 2017 On Tuesday we had our main transition session where all students got to meet their teacher and classmates for 2017. We have spent a significant amount of time getting a good mix of students in each class. What pleased me most about Tuesday was the resilient reaction of some of our students who clearly did not get their best friend in class (the allocation is based on learning not friendship!), yet got on with things and accepted their lot! It is always an exciting time to see students preparing for new challenges, whether by making new friends, moving into a different section of the school or getting an unknown teacher! Teacher allocation for 2017 is as follows: Prep: Suzie Smith (Team Leader), Jacquie Durik/Ann Mangan, Bridget Kane Junior School: Anne Donoghue (Team Leader), Dee Chadwick, Ashleigh Franklin, Dylan Sendeckyj, Lauren Curwood Middle School: Anita Saliba (Team Leader), Katherine Darnell, Roseanne Parsons, Paul Sinclair Senior School: Bill Shorten (Team Leader), Chris Turner, Danielle Rushford, Natasha Walden, Olivia May Specialist Team: Tanya Barlow (Japanese), Jeenah Metcalfe (Visual Arts), Jacinta O’Leary (Performing Arts), Andrew Tonkin (Phys Ed), Yvonne Reid (Literacy Intervention) Andrew will be replacing Rod Neal who has retired as of the end of this year (we will say farewell to him on the last day at assembly). Rod has been at Warranwood for many years and has provided not only a fine phys ed program, but involved himself in all school activities, sharing his vast experience and knowledge. We will miss Rod’s passion for maths and photography as will as his great sense of humour. We all wish Rod well in his re- tirement. Vicky Papadakis is taking a year’s leave in 2017, and Vanessa Monro is moving to Good Shepherd Pri- mary School. Bill has extensive teaching experience in America, Melbourne and recently in Warrnambool, and will bring some great experience and fresh ideas into our school. Lauren comes to us from Park Orchards Primary School, where she has been working in their Junior School. Olivia has spent much of the year working in Senior School this year. I know everyone will give each of these new teachers a warm Warranwood welcome! It is sad to report that Mia Sartori will be leaving us at the end of this year. Mia has been unwell this year, and is reducing her hours of work to look after her health. We will say goodbye to her on the last day as well. In the 4 years she has been with us, Mia has had a significant impact on the wellbeing of many students and families. Her infectious smile and bubbly personality will be sorely missed! REPORTS End of year reports will go live on COMPASS next Friday (notwithstanding technical glitches!). Teachers have spent many hours preparing these reports, which reflect the achievements of our students. They should be read in conjunction with student portfolios and Learning Journals in the Senior School. All parents should have their COMPASS logins up to date but if you have lost yours please call the office! Please ensure you spend time talking to your child about the many achievements they have made this year! SCHOOL CAPTAINS 2017 Yesterday many of our year 5 students gave speeches outlining why they should be chosen as School Cap-tains for next year. the quality of our students and the great values they show make this a difficult decision. For those who miss out there are plenty of opportunities for leadership within the Senior School next year, including House Captains, SRC, Greenology and “specialist captains” which are new positions next year. It is also important for our students to learn that life doesn’t always deliver what one wants, that we do miss out on opportunities and it is how we accept and move on from these disappointments that make us stronger and better people. GRADUATION So much preparation has gone into this important event, which is always a highlight of the year! Parents please note that we can only accommodate parents/main care-givers at this event. We are sorry, but siblings, grandparents etc will not be able to attend. END OF YEAR… Our final Monday assembly will be next Monday 12 December, and our final assembly for the year will be on Tuesday 20 December at 1:00pm. At this time we will be saying farewell to the staff mentioned above and of course our year 6 Graduates!

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL REPORT SANTA COMES TO WARRANWOOD - Christmas Celebration Night The weather was kind this year for our carols night with a balmy evening and a light breeze. We started proceedings with our talented Taiko drummers and then started our class groupings. The preppies were as cute as buttons and grabbed the entire crowd’s attention with a fun version of It’s Christmas in the Summer Time. They were joined by their buddies next to sing Go Santa Go and finished with a Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star in Japanese! We then had the Junior School sing a rap version of You Can’t Wrap This and the comedic He’ll Be Coming Down The Chimney When He Comes. The Middle and Senior Schools sang enthusiastically and we even had the Sing for the Soul group perform All I Want For Christmas! Our school captains manned the microphone and played MC on the night telling Christmas jokes and introducing the acts to keep the show moving a steady level. We were lucky to have the Year 6s

sing their traditional Santa Claus Is Coming before the jolly red man arrived on the back of the South Warrandyte Fire Brigade trucks to conclude the night. Special thanks to our PA who cooked sausages and worked hard to provide refreshments to the audience and also raise some funds before the end of the year. Overall the night was a tremendous community event and it was very positive to see such enthusiasm and enjoyment from our stu-dents to be a part of our Christmas Celebration.

Come along for as little or as long as you like. BYO gloves, weeders or other fa-vourite tools if you have them. Light refreshments will be provided. If you, grandparents, family or friends would like to be noti-fied of garden club events in 2017 please leave your email details with the office.

LIBRARY NEWS Never say never! Today a Junior School student returned a book 250 days overdue! The school library is al-ways very happy to have books returned. All books are due back in library now please. (There is no more borrowing until the new school year) As always I am very happy to do a shelf check within the library for lost, misplaced books.

THANK YOU MORNING TEA –Tuesday 13 December at 11 am in the Gym. The Warranwood Staff would like to say a big thank you with a small gesture to all those people in the community who help us make the school so good! With-out parent and volunteer support in our school many students’ opportunities would be lost or affected. Please come along if you have supported classroom or school programs and enjoy a chat with others in our community of helpers. Shane

LOST PROPERTY Please make sure you clearly mark your child’s uniforms and anything else you child brings to school with laundry marker or printed labels so they can be returned when lost. There is still a large amount of non-uniform lost property as well as some unnamed uniform items in the blue lost property box located in the foyer of the gym. Please check if they belong to you. Any item left after the end of the year (20th December )will be donated to charity. Any donations of second hand current uniform can be left at the office and I will arrange a second hand sale at a later date.
