Proper e-collar useDogtra e-collars are intended for the sole purpose

of behavior modification of dogs. They are notintended for human use or use on other animals.Dogtra Company does not assume any liability forimproper use of the Dogtra e-collar.

Aggressive dogsDogtra does not recommend using the e-collar to

correct dogs that are aggressive towards other dogs orpeople. In many such cases the dog will associate thestimulation with the other dog or individual andbecome even more aggressive. Dog aggression is besttreated by a dog-training specialist.

The Rheostat Intensity Dial is located onthe top of the transmitter: (0) being the lowestlevel and (127) being the highest. The LCDscreen shows the intensity level duringoperation.

The LCD screen indicates the stimulationlevel (0-127) on the screen.

The LCD battery life indicator shows 3 barsat full charge, 2 bars at medium charge and 1 barwhen it needs to be charged. The battery lifeindicator only specifies the remaining charge foryour transmitter. To find the remaining chargefor your receiver, observe the LED on thecollar/receiver.

Care for LCD Transmitters in ColdTemperature

In cold temperatures (10 degrees F orbelow), the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) onyour transmitter may be dim or slow to respond.Wait until the display becomes visible beforeselecting any training level.

Even though the LCD screen might be dim orslow to respond, the transmitter will still functionproperly when you push the Nick or Constantbutton. In the occurrence of extremely coldweather, the LCD screen might take a moment torespond causing the intensity level to freeze atthat current level. In this situation, if you turn theRheostat Intensity Dial, and the intensity level onthe screen does not increase, yet you emit anelectrical stimulation, the level will be inagreement with the new changed intensity level.

In this situation, it is ideal to either wait untilyour transmitter is back to working order beforeemitting a correction, or while holding theconstant button down slowly turn the RheostatIntensity Dial while watching your dog’sreaction. Do not turn the Rheostat Intensity Dialat a rapid increase because the collar/receiverwill emit a static correction based on the level ofthe Rheostat Intensity Dial, which might not becorrectly reflected on the LCD screen.

Transmitter Indicator Light (LED Window)

The transmitter LED indicator light is locatednear the Rheostat Intensity Dial. It will flash every4 seconds when the transmitter has been turnedon. The color of the light indicates the status ofbattery life. It flashes green when the battery isfully charged and turns to amber when the batteryis at medium charge. It is acceptable to chargeyour unit even at medium charge without anydamage incurred to your collar. When thetransmitter indicator emits a blinking red light, thebattery needs to be recharged.

(Green= full charge, Amber = mediumcharge, Red = needs charge).

Transmitter Battery Charging Receptacle &Rubber Plug

Located on the backside of the transmitter,the charging receptacle is covered by a rubberplug. Insert one end of the battery charging cableinto the receptacle to charge the battery (SeeBattery Charging Procedure on page 26).

After charging is completed, close thereceptacle with its rubber plug to make sure dirtor water does not get inside.

The “Nick” button is located on the top left.It is imprinted with the letter “N” for an easy,clear selection. When the “Nick” button ispushed the receiver emits a single, rapid pulse ofelectrical stimulation.

“Constant” Button

The “Constant” button is located on thebottom left. Pressing the “Constant” button givescontinuous stimulation as long as the button ispushed, for up to 12 seconds. If the button is notreleased after 12 seconds, the stimulation willautomatically turn off as a safety feature. Thecollar will be ready to be reactivated once thebutton has been released.

“Pager” Button

The “Pager” button is located on the face ofthe transmitter. Pressing it will give non-stimulating vibration as long as the button isdepressed, for up to 12 seconds.

Transmitter Power ON/OFF

The button on the right side of the transmitteris the “ON/OFF” button that activates thetransmitter and LCD screen only.

To turn the transmitter on, press the“ON/OFF” button on the right side until theLCD screen illuminates.

To turn the transmitter off, press the“ON/OFF” button on the right side of thetransmitter. When the LCD screen displays“OFF” release the button.

Located on the face of the transmitter is atoggle switch. The toggle switch has a settingfor “Nick” and another forConstant. Thecolor-coordinated buttons (orange for theorange receiver/collar and gray for the blackreceiver/collar) will implement the desiredstimulation based on the toggle switch setting.

BUTTON FUNCTION

When either the orange or gray stimulationbutton is pressed and the toggle is set on“Nick” the receiver emits a single, rapid pulseof electrical stimulation.

When you press either the orange or graystimulation button, and the toggle is set on“Constant”, the receiver emits a continuousstimulation as long as the button is pushed, forup to 12 seconds to the corresponding collar. Ifthe button is not released after 12 seconds, thestimulation will automatically turn off as asafety feature. The collar will be ready to bereactivated once the button has been released.

“Pager” Button

The “Pager” buttons are located on the faceof the transmitter. The orange buttoncorresponds with the orange receiver/collar andthe gray with the black receiver/collar. Pressingit will give non-stimulating vibration as long asthe button is depressed, for up to 12 seconds.

Turning on the Collar Receiver

The ON/OFF button is on the bottom of thereceivers. Push and hold the button for twoseconds until the LED light, located on the frontof the collar, starts blinking. The indicator lightwill blink once every 2 seconds after the collar isturned on. The color of the light indicates thestatus of battery life. The LED glows green whenthe battery is fully charged and turns to amberwhen battery life is getting low. When the LEDemits a blinking red light, the battery needs to berecharged.

(Green= full charge, Amber = mediumcharge, Red= needs charge)

When the Constant button on thetransmitter is pushed, the collar indicator lightwill glow steadily as long as you hold the buttondown, for up to twelve seconds. When theNick button is pushed, the light comes on for a

fraction of a second.

BATTERY CHARGER

The battery charger and charging cablesallow you to charge both the transmitter andreceiver at the same time. The battery charger isdesigned for a 120-volt wall outlet. (European230-volt AC chargers and 12-volt field chargerfor your automobile are also available.)

To use the battery charger for the two-dogunit, combine both sets of battery charging(splitter) cables as shown. This enables you tocharge the transmitter and both receivers at thesame time.

NOTE : Only use Dogtra-approved Chargersfor your Dogtra e-collar. This will preventany damage that can be incurred fromattempting to use a different charger.

TESTING

1. Turn the collar/receiver on by pressing theON/OFF button on the receiver. Theindicator light will come on for a momentthen blink once every 2 seconds, showingthat the collar is ready to use. (If theindicator light is red, or if there is only 1 barshowing on the battery icon on the LCDtransmitter screen, the unit needs to becharged.)

2. Place the test light included in the packagecontents on the contact points as shown inthe diagram.

3. Turn the transmitter on by pressing the bluebutton on the right side of the transmitter untilthe LCD screen illuminates. The LCD screenshows the amount of battery life remaining andthe LED blinks once every 2 seconds.

4. Watch the test light as you push the Nickbutton on the transmitter. It should light for justa moment.

5. Watch the test light as you push the Constantbutton on the transmitter. It should light for aslong as the button is pressed. However, as asafety feature, the collar/receiver willautomatically shut off stimulation if the constantbutton is depressed for 12 seconds or longer.

6. Turn the Rheostat Intensity Dial on thetransmitter clockwise and thencounterclockwise. The test light should glowbrighter with higher levels of stimulation anddimmer with lower levels. When you change theintensity dial, the number on the LCD screenwill change as well.

7. Pressing the Pager button on the front of thetransmitter causes the collar to vibrate for up to12 seconds. The collar will reactivate when youpush the button again.

NOTE : The test light may not luminate if theintensity level is set below level ten.

PROPER FIT

The collar should be fitted so that thesurgical stainless steel contact points pressfirmly against the dog’s skin. You should beable to fit a finger in between the contactpoint and your dog’s skin. The best locationis either side of the dog’s windpipe.

IMPROPER FIT

A loose fit can allow the collar to movearound on the dog’s neck. When this happens,the contact points may rub against the skin andcause irritation. If the collar is too loose,electrical contact will be inconsistent causingyour corrections to be inconsistent.

Dogtra uses surgical stainless steel contactpoints and anti-microbial plastic to protect thedog’s skin.

ATTENTION!

Avoid having the dog wear the collar formore than 8 hours out of every 24-hour period.Leaving the points on the same spot forextended periods of time can cause skinirritation. If the dog is to wear the e-collar forlong periods, occasionally reposition the collarso that the contact points are moved to adifferent location on the dog’s neck.

INTENSITY SELECTION

The has aRheostat Intensity Dial on the top of thetransmitter (0 is the lowest and 127 is thehighest). Remember that you will need to adjustthe setting (upward or downward) depending onyour dog’s temperament and threshold forstimulation. Also, as the dog’s attitude changes,especially during times of increased excitementor distraction, you may need to adjust theintensity level.

NOTE : The stimulation intensity can beadjusted even while the stimulationis in use.

Battery Charging Procedure

1. Attach the charging cables to both thetransmitter and receiver(s), as shown onpage 26.

2. Plug the charger into a 120-volt wall outletor, if using the accessory field charger, pluginto a cigarette lighter. (Use a 230-voltEuropean charger for Europe.) Whenproperly plugged in, all indicator lightsshould glow red. The receiver automatically turns off whenyou insert the charging cable into the battery-charging receptacle on the receiver.

Recharge the unit if :

The LED indicator light on the collar receiveris emitting a red color.

If the 3 bar indicator on the transmitter LCDshows just 1 bar.

The indicator light on the transmitter orreceiver will not come on.

The indicator light on the transmitter orreceiver comes on momentarily, but will notstay on when the “Constant” button is pushed.

Reception

The collar has a range of 1/2-mile. Depending on theway you use your transmitter, the range mayvary.

Hold the transmitter away from your bodyand avoid touching the antenna, to get thegreatest range.

For maximum signal strength, keep your unitproperly charged.

3. After charging, cover the battery chargingreceptacles with the rubber plugs on thetransmitter and receiver.

4. The battery is fully charged with a 14-hourcharge. The lights will stay red during thecharging process. They DO NOT turn greenwhen fully charged. Charging the batteriesfor more than 14 hours at one time will notextend battery life.

BASIC MAINTENANCEBe sure that the rubber charging plugs are

always secured when the collar is in use. If yourplugs break or are ripped, please contactCustomer Service at [email protected] or(888) 811-9111 to obtain replacements.

After each session, carefully inspect yourunit for any missing parts, or casing damage.Broken casings on either the receiver ortransmitter may affect the waterproof guaranteeof the unit. The transmitter antenna should besecured and tight for optimum performance.Rinse the unit after each session and clean offany dirt or debris.

Storage MaintenanceYour unit should be fully charged for 14

hours before extended storage. During storage,the unit should be charged every 3 months for14 hours, and once before the first use.

When traveling, try to store your units inroom or slightly warmer temperatures, do nottransport the unit exposed in extreme climates.

Troubleshooting:If you suspect your unit is malfunctioning

please refer to the “Troubleshooting Guide”before you send your unit in for service.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

1. My dog is not reacting to the collar.

- Make sure the receiver is turned on. Pushand hold the ON/OFF button on the receiverfor two seconds until the LED light startsblinking. Push the blue button on thetransmitter until it illuminates to activate thetransmitter.

- Be sure the collar strap is tight enough soboth contact points are touching the dog’sskin.

- The contact points may be too short for thedog. To place an order for longer contactsappropriate for your dog, please call(888) 811-9111. If you are already using the longest contactpoint available, you might need to trimdown the hair on the dog’s neck so bothcontact points are touching the dog’s skin.

- The intensity level may be too low for yourdog. Keep increasing the stimulation untilthe dog responds usually by neckmovement, head shaking, looking over hisshoulder, etc. (response may be very subtleso pay attention.)

2. The LED indicator light comes on, but I donot feel any stimulation.

- Your tolerance may be higher than yourdog’s. You may need to try the unit on yourfingertips where sensitivity is higher and/orincrease the stimulation level. Be sure bothcontact points are touching both of yourfingertips.

- The battery may be low, check the LEDlight for battery life.

- If you have a full charge, and you have doneall of the above, your unit may need to beserviced. Please contact Customer Serviceat [email protected] or (888) 811-9111.

3. The transmitter has no range, or stimulationis less when the dog is farther away.

- The antenna(s) may be damaged. To orderparts, please contact Customer Service at(888) 811-9111.

- The range indicated on the unit’s box is forflat terrain. Heavy brush, trees, hills ormoisture will affect the range of your unit.For best range, hold the transmittervertically above your head, and/or trymoving to higher ground.

- Any electrical conductors will affect therange, such as cars, chain-link dog runs,metal buildings and radio towers. For bestresults, operate away from these structures.

4. My collars are not holding a charge.

- The batteries might not be charged properly, orthe charger, splitter and the charging portneeds to be looked at. If you suspect yourcharger/splitter is not functioning properlyplease contact Customer Service [email protected] or (888) 811-9111. You cansend in your charging units to have us inspectthem.

- The charging pin may be damaged. Inside thecharging port, there is a metal pin that shouldbe standing straight up and stiff. If the pin iswobbling, broken or missing, you will need tosend the unit in to the Repair Dept. Thecharging port must be clean prior to charging,clean the dirt out with a cotton swab and somerubbing alcohol. If the dog is in salt-water, besure to rinse the receiver and charging portwith clean water.

- For Dogtra units over two years old from thepurchase date, the batteries may be replaced.You can replace them yourself by contactingDogtra. Damages incurred to the unit due toimproper battery installation are not coveredunder any warranty. Battery replacement is theonly time customers should open the unit, anyother unauthorized servicing or tampering withthe unit voids your limited lifetime warranty. Ifyou are still having problems after replacingthe batteries, Dogtra strongly recommendssending the unit in for inspection.

provides the originalpurchaser with a LIMITED LIFETIMEWARRANTY . Limited Lifetime Warrantybegins from the date of purchase. For the firsttwo years coverage is for both parts and labor,on all our products purchased new. Accessoriessuch as, chargers, splitter cables, antennas,straps and batterieshave a one-year warrantyfrom the date of purchase. Once the first andsecond year warranty coverage expires, theLimited Lifetime Warranty will cover for allparts except accessories and labor fees. Laborfees and shipping fees incurred are thecustomers’ responsibility. Labor fees will bevariable depending on the extent of workrequired. The Limited Lifetime Warranty willexpire 5 years from the date a model isdiscontinued in production by Dogtra Company.

To register your Dogtra product, please logonto our website at www.dogtra.com, click on thewarranty registration link and fill out the requiredinformation. All registration must be completedwithin 30 days of your purchase. If you do nothave access to a computer, you can call our tollfree number of 888-811-9111 so one of ourcustomer service representatives can register yourproduct online for you. Also if you were unableto register your product on our website we willaccept all products for repair with a proof ofpurchase. We strongly recommend you keep youroriginal receipt. If your product is not registeredand proof of purchase is not available at the timeof service, Dogtra will estimate the age of theunit by the serial number. Serial numberestimates can be different than the actualpurchase time. Without proof of purchase orproduct registration this is the only method wehave for determining the approximate date ofpurchase.

Not Covered Under Warranty :

We cannot offer warranty for units/productsthat have been bought secondhand or as a resoldproduct.

Dogtra DOES NOT replace defective units orprovide refunds for products purchased from usafter 30 days from the date of the purchase. Issuesof replacement and refunds on units purchasedless than 30 days from an authorized dealer needto be addressed to the dealer directly.

Dogtra’s warranty DOES NOT cover repairsor replacements due to misuse by the owner ordog, improper maintenance, and/or lost units. Anywater damage on the Water Resistant Transmittersof the 175NCP, 180NCP, 200NCP, 202NCP,1400NCP, 1402NCP, 1500NCP and 1502NCPwill also not be covered. * Battery replacement by the customerduring the first year of the warranty is notrecommended. If the customer chooses toreplace the batteries, any damage to the unitduring the change-out by the owner will voidthe warranty.

The warranty is void if the unit has beenaltered or an unauthorized person has attemptedrepair work.

Procedure for Repair Work :

The cost of shipping products under warrantyback to Dogtra is the customer’s responsibility.Dogtra will provide/pay (via regular groundservice, within the continental United States) theshipping cost back to the customer. Any expeditedshipping service will be at the customer’sexpense. Dogtra is not responsible for loss oftraining time or inconvenience while the unit is infor repair work. Dogtra does not provide loanerunits or any form of compensation during therepair period.

A copy of the sales receipt showing thepurchase date is required before warranty work isinitiated.
