Of the 80 different types of ticks found in the United States,

there are 3 that cause the biggest issue. One is the deer tick.

The deer tick is the black legged tick and is the most

common. This type can cause Lyme disease. Next on the list

is the American dog tick. Rocky Mountain spotted fever is

caused by the American dog tick. The brown dog tick is the

final one. This one does not pose a danger to humans, but it

does pose a health risk to dogs.

Time of Arrival

Ticks start making their appearance when the weather starts

to warm. If the temperatures are above 40 degrees then you

can bet you will see adult deer ticks out. If you think there

might even be a chance that ticks are an issue where you

live, then it is best to put prevention measures in place as

spring arrives.

Preventing Ticks

step is to give your pets preventative medication. Your vet

can recommend the best medication for your animal. If you

are going outside where ticks are likely to be, make sure

you take your repellant with you. Put repellant on your

clothes as well as your shoes. Mowing should be done

regularly. Also, just as important as mowing, trim all of

your vegetation so that it is as close to your property as

possible.
