    BATTLE ORDERS

    1. Exchange Lists and Discuss Terrain Rules o NOTE: ‘Elements’ (small, removable pieces of terrain on flats) are NOT to be removed, or moved, for ANY

reason during games, nor are players legally allowed to place non-flying models on the elements. Models that do not fit between the elements may not move through them. Elements must be considered when determining line-of-sight.

    2. Generate Pre-game Abilities: Make pre-game determinations such as Command Point expenditures, Warlord, Warlord Trait, Psychic Powers, Relics, and the like.

    3. Terrain: Terrain is not fixed; Armies roll-off and alternate placing terrain. No piece of terrain may be placed within 4” of another piece of terrain or the board edge.

    4. Determine Deployment Style: The deployment style is dictated by the mission. See the Missions for specific instructions.

    5. Place Objective Markers: Armies either roll off to alternate placing objective markers or place them in accordance with mission directives. See the Missions for specific instructions. Unless otherwise instructed, Objective Markers may not be placed within 12” of a table edge, or of each other. When placing markers according to a deployment diagram, measurements given are to the middle of a marker.

    6. Determine Deployment Zones & Deployment Order: Armies roll-off and the winner chooses their deployment zone. The other Army begins deploying first.

    7. Determine First Turn: The Army that finished deploying first gains a +1 to the roll to go first. The winner of the roll may elect to go first or second; the other Army can attempt to seize the Initiative.

Game Length: Missions 1-3 use Variable Game Length (5-7 Battle Rounds). Missions 4 and 5 use Fixed Game Length (6 Battle Rounds).

MISSION SPECIAL RULES 2018 Chapter Approved Matched Play & Beta Rules: Tactical Reserves, Prepared Positions, Tactical Restraint In addition to the core 8th edition rules, the Matched Play Rules in Chapter Approved 2018 (page 47), and the most recent FaQs and Errata, the ‘Beta’ rules in The Big FAQ 2, will be in effect for the 40,000 Championship. Summarized for convenience:

    • Tactical Reserves: No Reserves on Turn One and no more than half the point value of your army in Reserves. • Prepared Positions: 2CP Stratagem granting benefits of cover to player going second during Turn One. • Tactical Restraint: May only gain/have refunded 1CP per Battle Round, maximum, regardless of source.

Sudden Death (40K 8th Ed. Rulebook FAQ): “If at the end of any turn after the first battle round, one [Army] has no models on the battlefield, the game ends immediately and their opponent automatically wins…. When determining if [an Army] has any units on the battlefield, do not include any units with the Flyer Battlefield Role…. Furthermore, do not include any units with the Fortification Battlefield Role unless they have a unit embarked inside….”

    • Wipeout: In the case of a ‘wipeout’ (see: Sudden Death), the army achieving the ‘wipeout’ earns 4 Victory Points and the game is scored as normal.

    • Concession: If an army concedes at any time, the game ends immediately and is scored 40-0 (Battle Points).

    OBJECTIVES AND DIFFERENTIAL SCORING

Primary OBJECTIVES Eternal War Objectives: Eternal War objectives are ALWAYS scored at the end of the game. Progressive Objectives: Progressive objectives are ALWAYS scored at the top of the player turn, after the first Battle Round.

  • WARHAMMER 40K TEAM TOURNAMENT BATTLE ORDERS

Qualifying Pairs of Units (Table Quarters): To make a qualifying pair of units, each Team Member must have at least one unit wholly within the table quarter in question. Furthermore, in order to enjoy Objective Secured (ObSec), or its equivalent, status, BOTH Team Members’ units must, individually, qualify as Objective Secured. Thus:

    • ObSec unit + ObSec unit = models have ObSec status • ObSec unit + Non-ObSec unit = models DO NOT have ObSec status • Non-ObSec unit + Non-ObSec unit = models DO NOT have ObSec status

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES Modified Kill Points: Every 100 points worth of enemy units destroyed by the end of the game (rounded to the nearest 100) is worth 1 Victory Point.

    o Example A: 4 units worth 495 points rounds to 500/100 = 5 Victory Points o Example B: 4 units worth 650 points rounds to 700/100 = 7 Victory Points o Example C: 8 units worth 320 points rounds to 300/100 = 3 Victory Points o Example D: 1 unit worth 385 points rounds to 400/100 = 4 Victory Points o Example E: 1 unit worth 40 points rounds to 0/100 = 0 Victory Points o NOTE: A maximum of 12 Victory Points may be earned from Kill Points regardless of the number of

    units in a player’s army.

Team Vanguard: At the start of any of your turns, after the first Battle Round, have at least one (1) of each team member’s units entirely within the opposing team’s Deployment Zone.

Take & Hold: At the start of any of your turns, after the first Battle round, hold at least three (3) objectives, using units from only one team member’s detachment.

Big Game Hunter: By the end of the game, destroy the most expensive unit in both of the opposing army's detachments. If more than one unit qualifies as most expensive, destroying any of them will satisfy this objective.

TERTIARY OBJECTIVES Slay the Warlord: If, at the end of the game, the enemy's Warlord has been removed as a casualty, you score 2 Victory Points.

First Blood: The first unit to be completely destroyed during the game is worth 2 Victory Points to the opposing army at the end of the game.

Linebreaker: If, at the end of the game, your army has at least one model from one or more scoring units completely within 12” of your opponent’s table edge, you score 2 Victory Points.

HOW DIFFERENTIAL SCORING WORKS At the end of the game, Armies compare total VPs earned. The difference in VPs is added to the winning Army’s Battle Points and subtracted from the losing Army’s Battle Points. Both Armies begin the game with 20 Battle Points. A difference of 20 VPs or greater is scored 40-0.

    • The maximum score is 40 Battle Points; the minimum score is 0 Battle Points. • In the case of concession, the winner is given 40 Battle Points and the other player is given 0. • In the case of a ‘wipeout’ (see: Sudden Death), the winner earns 4 Victory Points and the game is scored as

    normal.

Example Game: Player One scores 25 total VPs and Player Two scores 18 VPs; a 7 VP differential between the two Armies. The Example Game is scored as such:

o Player One: 27 Battle Points (20 starting +7 for VP Differential) o Player Two: 13 Battle Points (20 starting -7 for VP Differential)

DEPLOYMENT Please follow the Battle Orders rules as presented in the Warhammer 40,000 Team Tournament Battle Orders sheet.

    Deployment: Spearhead Assault

Primary Objectives (6 total): Place six (6) objective markers in accordance with the deployment diagram.

Game Length: Variable (See Battle Orders Sheet).

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE The Artefact Objective: Beginning with Battle Round 3, after the start of your turn, but before the Movement Phase, roll a d6 for each objective you control (one at a time). These rolls cannot be re-rolled for any reason.

    • On a roll of 1-5, Collect the objective, removing it from the table.

    • On a roll of 6, that objective is the Artefact. It remains where it is for the rest of the game.

    • Once the Artefact objective has been determined, any remaining objectives may still be Collected, but do not require a die roll.

    • If 5 objectives have been Collected from the table, the remaining objective is automatically the Artefact.

At the end of the game, Collected objectives are worth 3 VP and the Artefact Objective is worth 9 VP. If the Artefact Objective is contested, it is worth 0 VP to either team.

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES Secondary Objectives: There are three Secondary Objectives. Each is worth 4 Victory Points. See the Battle Orders sheet for complete Secondary Objective descriptions.

DEPLOYMENT Please follow the Battle Orders rules as presented in the Warhammer 40.000 Team Tournament Battle Orders sheet.

Deployment: Split vs. Consolidated (See Diagram). • Army deploying into the split DZ automatically goes

first; the opponent may attempt to seize the initiative.

    • Army deploying into the split DZ must alternate making deployments in each of the two zones.

    Objective Markers: None

Game Length: Fixed (See Battle Orders sheet).

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE Progressive Objective (Table Quarter): Table quarters are defined by two lines, one splitting the board in half perpendicular to the long edge, and one splitting the board in half perpendicular to the short edge, creating four rectangles.

After the first Battle Round, at the start of each turn, the army with the most total models, in Qualifying Pairs of Units, controls a Table Quarter and earns 3 Victory Points. Teams may only earn Table Quarter VPs at the start of their own turns. A maximum of 24 VP may be earned from this objective. See Battle Orders sheet for Qualifying Pairs definition.

SECONDARY OBJECTIVE Non-Troop Modified Kill Points: Every 100 points worth of non-Troop (Battlefield Role) enemy units destroyed by the end of the game (rounded to the nearest 100) is worth 1 Victory Point. See the Battle Orders sheet for scoring examples. A maximum of 12 VP may be earned from this objective, regardless of the number of enemy units destroyed.

TERTIARY OBJECTIVES There are three Tertiary Objectives. They are worth 2 Victory Points each. See the Battle Orders sheet for complete Tertiary Objective descriptions.

    SPORTSMANSHIP MARK

    Good

Perfectly Decent Game of Warhammer. This should encompass a majority of your marks. This covers most normal games of Warhammer. Your opponent was relatively sporting, came prepared to play and put forth a good effort to amicably resolve rules disputes.

    Amazing

Fantastically Brilliant Game! Reserved for the truly special games of Warhammer. Your opponent went well beyond the call of duty, was incredibly sporting and honestly made additional effort to provide a fantastic game. This is just the type of person you would want in your local gaming club. Players receiving the most net positives mark are eligible to win Best Sportsmanship.

    Negative

Just A Terribly Awful Game! While difficult to describe, these games are bound to happen. Reserved for the worst of the worst, you should only ‘award’ this mark in the direst of circumstances. This mark should be an evaluative negative on your opponent’s sportsmanship only and should NEVER be a reflection on the final results of the game.
