It's a good idea to take a lookat the templates now, and keep referring, to Ilhem as youread through what follows.     SAMPLEMlA.R.INEREGMETTohelp you see how to use the Space Marine anny list, here'san example of a Marine regiment I've designed: the 3rdRegiment of the Valedictors Chapter. I've decided to usea chapter of my own so Ian invent my own colour schemesand background. The Valedictors are based inthe far easternfringe of the Empire, fighting Ork and Eldar raiders as wellas battling Traitor forces in the Horus Heresy.I began collecting Epic miniatures some time ago and nowI've decided to combine all the Marme stuff into ;3 1 singleregiment to include in my battleforce, Tbe Devourers,which also includes a Guard reglment and a llIumber ofTitans, The Devoueees have been assembled toclear Ttaitorforces from the city o{Veastra and its surroundtng area onthe planet Kastion IV . AlIthough at the moment I don't haveenough models torepresent the entire regiment, Ican workout what extra units I'llhave to collect as I go along.FIRST BATTALIONThe 1st Battalion is organized as a mobile spearhead topunch holes in [he enemy line, and it therefore mcludesa large number of Rhino-mounted infantry and landRaiders in the Istand 2nd Companies, plus a detachmentof Rapiers for support. Because I want the 1st Companyto be a very tough unit to lead attacks and act as a mobilereserve in defence, 1 take (he option to make the wholecompany eltte for an extra 25 % added to their cost. The3ed Company is organised as a cheap mobile formation forpursuit and reconnaissance work.

    AEbattalion level I've included an extrarecon detachment,mainly so it Can be attached to the 3rd Company, somearmoured support In [he form of Whirlwtnds and. adetachment of Thr.mtula support artillery. I've taken theoption of assault stands, Land Ratder and recon detachmentas battalion HQ - they're free, so there's no reason not eoinclude them. And the transport pool is the three Rhinodetachments which I've already decided to attach [0thetactical detachments in lst and 2nd Companies. The lackof assault troops in the Ist Battalion means it can't reallydear om obiectrves but Ir's ideal for mobile actions bothinattack and defence.

    THE SCOND BATTALIONI want the 2nd Battalion to be a more standard formationto supply me with plenty of line troops, both for large-scale'assaults and to form a strong defence, 1b this end, I placetwo tactical detachments in both the Ist and 2ndCompanies. ineach case mounting one detachment inLandRaiders and the other inRhinos - this gives them the dghtmix of speed and firepower. To fill out the 1st and 2ndCompanies, I include detachments of assault troops andLand Speeders to give them some units which camdosewith the enemy quickly. Imake [he 3rd Companyan assaultcompany supported by a detachment of Mole Mortars So] bave troops to storm objectives. At battalion level 1placeDreadnoughts and armoured support In the form ofWhirlwinds and Vindicators. nacre's also the free' battalionHQ, plus the transport pool of two detachrnenrs each ofland .lbiders and Rhinos which I've assigned to the Ist and2nd Companies. The 2ndCompany I form Into a mechanised infantrycompany with ametical detachment mountedio RhInos from the transport pool and adevastator detachment mounted in LandBaidees.Tbe ,3rdCompany is a eobctcompany-this isparticularly cheap and willmake a goodback-up unit for static defences and set-pieceattacks where robots are most usefu], Finally,at battalion level, Iplace the support weaponsand Dreadnoughts for th e battalio.n to omakethemeasilly accessible to aU the companies asneeded. The transport pool isonly one Rhinodetachment, being used by the mechanised2nd Company. As with the other bartaltons,I've taken m e free HQ option. Overall, thebattalion is a bit of a mish-mash but it ~sn"tintended to stand alone and its individualcompanies, areusefn] to bed up [he morestandard companies inthe rest of the regiment.
