Spiritual Warfare Intercession (1)[The Preparation Of God's Dangerous Soldiers]

By Pastor Harold F. Weitsz – 5 October 2008 – www.littlefallsnetwork.com © Little Falls Christian Centre

1 Cor 9:24 [Kenneth S. Wuest, New Testament Expanded Translation]  Do you not know that those who

are running in a race are indeed all running, but one receives the victor's award? Be running in such a

manner as the one who won the race, in order that you may obtain the victor's award. Everyone who

participates in the athletic games exercises constant self-control in all things, those, to be sure, in order that they may receive a perishable victor's garland of wild olive leaves to be worn as a crown of victory,

but as for us [we engage in Christian service, exercising constant self-control to obtain] a victor's garland

which is imperishable. As for myself, therefore, I so run, in no uncertain manner. I so swing my fists, not

as one who, when fighting, misses his opponent, merely beating the air and not striking a straight blow

which finds its target. But I beat my body black and blue and make it my abject slave lest somehow,

when I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified [from further Christian service].

† Never before in history have we seen world society go through change as these last days that we are

living in. Evil has become the order of the day, good is called evil and evil called good, while Biblical

values are being discarded as old fashioned and outdated. Human rights based on secular humanism

have taken the place of Biblical prescriptions given by God to mankind, and have caused many to

become accustomed to wrong lifestyles. This, in the process, has caused all the social problems we as a

society are experiencing.

Rom 12:1-2 [Message] So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life — your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life — and place it before

God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.2 Don't

become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your

attention on God . You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you,and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of

immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

† We, as disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ, are never to forget that although we are in the world we are

not of it and we should have no part in its sin and deprivation. John 17:14-16 [NKJV] I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are

not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15  I do not pray that You should take them out of the

world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not

of the world.

† Paul called believers “soldiers” in the New Testament.

2 Tim 2:3-5 [NKJV] You therefore must endure hardship as a good  soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one

engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted

him as a soldier . 5   And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes

according to the rules.

1 Tim 1:18-19 [NKJV]  This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare , 19 having faith and a

good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck,

Eph 6:11-18 [NKJV] Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles

of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,

against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly

places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armour of God  , that you may be able to withstand in the evil

day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put

on the breastplate of righteousness, 15  and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of

peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of

the wicked one. 17   And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of

God; 18  praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all

perseverance and supplication for all the saints

2 Cor 10:3-6 [ NKJV] For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the

weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5  casting

down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every

thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when

your obedience is fulfilled.

† As Christians, we must always be aware that we are living in continuous interaction with the spiritualworld. Aside from God the Father, this unseen world contains friendly spiritual beings (holy angels)

whose role it is to minister to the children of God, but also extremely hostile beings (demons) whose

sole mission it is to harm all Christ-followers [Eph 6:12].

† As soldiers of the Kingdom of God, we are on a mission to secure a future and purpose for our

generations. No soldier must be unprepared if he/she is really going to be effective and make a

difference. This preparation must begin with each one of us individually. We have to carefully

consider our own spiritual condition. By not putting my life in order, I will be ineffective to pray and

intercede and enter into spiritual warfare with any success.

James 4:7-10 [NLT] So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8

Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts,

for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. 9 Let there be tears for what you have done. Let

there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. 10

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honour.

† We must pursue righteousness (right standing) with the Lord before we will experience effective

wonder-working prayers.

James 5:16 [AMP] The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous

power available [dynamic in its working].

Prov 15:29 [AMP] The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the [consistently]

righteous (the upright, in right standing with Him).

† Practical advice regarding spiritual warfare and intercession:

1.  By practising these personal disciplines you will keep your spiritual eyes open and heighten your

spiritual sensitivity (Ps 1:2-4; 2 Tim 2:15; 2 Tim 3:15-17).

2.  Do not fall prey to or be sensitive about the criticism of others. Do not be distracted by the cares of

this life that will keep you so busy that you will not have time for successful and effective spiritual

warfare prayer (Luke 21:34-36; Eph 6:10-18).

3.  Remember that the power of your spiritual weapons is greater than all the powers of satan and his

demons. (2 Cor 10:4-7; Eph 6:10-18).

4.  Keep yourself strengthened continuously through your prayer-life and the reading of the Word (Eph

6:18; 1 Tim 4:12-16).5.  Do not lose your courage, even when things seem to turn against you. Persevere with your prayers

and the reading and quoting of the Scriptures (1 Tim 6:12; 2 Tim 4:7; 1 Pet 1:7; 1 Pet 4:12;

James 1:12).

6.  Be vigilant and sensitive against the schemes and moves of the devil – keep on resisting him.

(James 4:7; 1 Pet 5:8-9).

7.  The Father has given you authority over the powers of darkness, so use it. You have the name of

Jesus, the power of the Holy Spirit and the precious blood of Jesus with which to overcome the

enemy (Acts 1:8; John 14:12-15; Mark 16:15-20).

8.  Seek God’s will for your life above all else. Walk with God daily and let the light of His Word

transform you and keep it as the highest authority in your life. (1 John 1:7).
