Scottish MusicalGroup To Appear

The Scottish Baroque Ensemble, a 13-member string group from Edinburgh,Scotland will tour four major Texascities in late February and early March,as an official British tribute to the Ameri-can Bicentennial.

Touring under the auspices of theBritish Committee for the USA Bicen-tennial, an official British governmentalagency, the Scottish Baroque Ensemblewill perform concerts, free to the publicin Houston, Dallas, Austin and San An-tonio. The Scottish Baroque Ensemble, nowin its eighth season, was founded byviolinist Leonard Friedman. It is mod-elled on the orchestras of the 18th Cen-tury and performs without a conductor.

IndustriesBuildingOnChannelOne big petrochemical plant will be constructed and two

others expanded along the Houston Ship Channel, accordingto plans just announced.

Lonza, Inc., will start construction in mid-February on a$30 million plant at Bayport to produce the raw materials forpaint pharmaceutical and agrichemical industries. The plantwill occupy 15 of 216 acres Lonza owns in Bayport and this isthe forerunner of a giant petrochemical complex.

The Lonza plant will produce diketene, methyl and ethylacetoacetate and a wide range of acetoacet arylamides, all ofwhich Lonza has been supplying to the U.S. market for severalyears from its plants in Europe.

The DuPont Company is expanding its plant by 80 per centfor the production of butanediol and tertahydrofuran at itsplant near Barbours Cut. The first unit to go on stream willstart up in April. Further expansion is planned for completionin 1978.

U.S. Industrial Chemicals Co. is building a 600-million-pounds-a-year acetic acid plant at Deer Park. Production isexpected to start in 1979.

A graduate of the U. S. MerchantMarine Academy, he served with theLykes sea-going organization from 1949until 1957 when he was transferredashore as Assistant Port Captain inHouston. In 1963 he was appointedAssistant to the Manager of the MarineDivision in the West Gulf, and a yearlater became Assistant Manager of theDivision.

sons group of London has been set up inHouston, offering a complete service forthe petroleum industry by providingfacilities for crating, marshalling, storageand rig up requirements.
