Basic Functions of Warehouse ManagementWarehouse Management in SAP ECC contains the following five basic functions:. Inventory Management exact to storage bin level. Ma ing an! control of all goo!s movements. Monitoring of the rocessing of these goo!s movements. Connection to mobile !ata entry as art of the integrate! ra! io fre"uency solution. Connection to s ecialist external systems using an interface

    Main Features of Warehouse Management

While Inventory Management # as art of Materials Management# can only rovi!e information on thetotal "uantity of material in stoc$# Warehouse Management enables a recise s ecification of the exactlocation of a articular "uantity of material an! informs you whether this "uantity is currently in a storage bin oron the move.

%hese movements of storage bin stoc$s are generally triggere! by goo!s recei ts an! goo!s issues# orstoc$ transfers. Warehouse Management uses a s ecial !ocument# the transfer order to ma an! controlwarehouse movement you create a transfer or!er# the system chec$s all of the relevant settings at master !ata orCustomi&ing level an! uses this !ata to !etermine suitable storage bins to ut away or ic$ stoc$. 'ou can#however# s ecify bins an! bin stoc$ manually.

Even with a com letely configure! system# there can be errors from time to time# or someone mightforget to rocess o en !ocuments# so Warehouse Management is e"ui e! with monitoring tools .

Organizational Units%o use the functions of Warehouse Management# you have to create some s ecific organi&ational units. %hisorgani&ational units are foun! in Customi&ing.

The Warehouse Number and its Substructures%he warehouse number is the organi&ational unit at the highest level in Warehouse Management inSAP ECC. It is use! to re resent the warehouse com lex. Each warehouse number has a substructure that ma s the s atial relationshi s in the warehouse com lex in !etail.

Substructure of the warehouseEach warehouse number contains a number of subor!inate organi&ational units (!e en!ing on the settings inCustomi&ing): Storage types #storage sections #an! picking areas .%he storage type is use! to ma a storage s ace that forms a se arate unit within a warehouse number# s atiallyan!*or organi&ationally. A stan!ar! system alrea!y contains a certain set of re+configure! storage ty es# f orexam le: high rac$# fixe! bin# an! bul$ storage ty es. 'ou can mo!ify these tem lates as re"uire!# or a!!new storage ty es. Many of the Customi&ing settings in Warehouse Management are relate! to the storage ty e.

%he interim storage areas lay a s ecial role an! can generally be recogni&e! at first glance in the stan!ar!system by their $ey (which starts with a 9). %hese storage areas form a sort of bri!ge to Inventory Management.,oo!s recei t area an! goo!s issue area are ty ical exam les of interim storage areas.Interim storage areas

Every goo!s movement that affects both Warehouse Management an! Inventory Management is rocesse! usingan interim storage area. An every!ay exam le is a goo!s recei t for a urchase or!er# which is oste! first inInventory Management.%he goo!s are then brought into the warehouse via an interim storage area# the goods receipt area .A master recor! is assigne! to each storage ty e in Customi&ing. %his is where you ma$e the settings to controlgoo!s recei t an! goo!s issue rocesses for utaway an! removal from storage.

storage sections are create! within storage ty es to further !ivi!e the storage s ace. %here can be variouscriteria for creating various storage sections. -ften# the material to be store! in the storage ty e lays anim ortant role. It ma$es sense to store a fast+moving item in easily accessible storage sections# for exam le# or tostore goo!s that are easily s oile! in a chille! area. %he system only ta$es storage sections into account !uring

putaway .Even if there is no nee! to !ivi!e the area any further within the storage ty e# you must create at least onestorage section for each storage ty e.%he picking area is on the same hierarchical level as the storage section an! can be use! to sub!ivi!e the area of a storage ty e to control the stock removal rocess.

nli$e the storage section# the ic$ing area is an o tional organi&ational unit.Storage bins are master !ata an! are create! within a storage section.
