Coriantons LessonAndrew Roach Ward Mission Leader

In Alma 39:3 we read the words of theprophet Alma to his son Corianton.Corianton had broken the law ofchastity with the harlot Isabel while

being a missionary and now Alma wascalling his son to repentance1 andreminding him about the Atonement ofChrist.2 Corianton had made some seriousmistakes, but as we read further we see that

Corianton repented and became a greatmissionary for the Lord.3 Mormon later refers toCorianton as a (man) of God and says that hedid preach the word of God, and (he) did baptizeunto repentance all men whosoever wouldhearken unto (his) words.4

What a remarkable change that took place inCoriantons life because of the Atonement and thelove of his father, Alma, to invite him to repent! For those of us who might be like Corianton was,

we can repent because Christ came to take awaythe sins of the world; yea, he [came] to declare

glad tidings of salvation unto his people.5

Follow the example of Corianton and repentthrough faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement.

And for those of us who are seeking to bemissionaries like Alma, we can share ourtestimonies of the Atonement with those aroundus, especially our loved ones, and we can inviteothers to come unto Christ by helping them receivetherestored gospel through faith in Jesus Christand His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduringto the end.6

    1Alma 39:8-14

2 Alma 39:15 And now, my son, I would say

somewhat unto you concerning the coming of

Christ. Behold, I say unto you, that it is he that

surely shall come to take away the sins of the

world; yea, he cometh to declare glad tidings of

    salvation unto his people.

3Alma 49:30 Yea, and there was continual peace among

them, and exceedingly great prosperity in the church becauseof their heed and diligence which they gave unto the word of

God, which was declared unto them by Helaman, and Shiblon,

and Corianton, and Ammon and his brethren, yea, and by all

those who had been ordained by the holy order of God, being

baptized unto repentance, and sent forth to preach among the

    people.

4 Alma 48:18-19 Behold, he was a man like unto Ammon, the

son of Mosiah, yea, and even the other sons of Mosiah, yea,

and also Alma and his sons, for they were all men of God.

    19. Now behold, Helaman and his brethren were no less

serviceable unto the people than was Moroni; for they did

preach the word of God, and they did baptize unto repentance

all men whosoever would hearken unto their words.

5 Alma 39:15 And now, my son, I would say somewhat unto

you concerning the coming of Christ. Behold, I say unto you,

that it is he that surely shall come to take away the sins of the

world; yea, he cometh to declare glad tidings of salvation unto

    his people.
