What are the three biggest issues in your campaign?

Your number one issue, and why?

For me, Horse Hill's area structure plan is the number one issue in Ward 4. Rural and agricultural land in the north-easternmostcorner of Ward 4 uniquely combines a favourable micro-climate with excellent soil condition supporting a large number of localmarket gardens. However, the increasingly convenient transportation of goods, services and commuters along Anthony HendayDrive has produced tremendous competition for available land from urban developers hoping to establish new residentialcommunities in the area. The situation in northeast Edmonton is similar to that of the Netherlands where intensive agriculturalactivities and high population densities effectively coincide. I support development that would see new communities surroundedby active market gardens giving consumers easy access to locally grown produce. I advocate the creation of a properly preparedarea structure plan in which the communitys input concerning land development is actively encouraged, considered andrespected.

    Number two issue, and why?

Infrastructure and roads are another crucial issue for me in my campaign. Our current City Council has advanced the conditionand development of the infrastructure in Edmonton more than the city has seen in the past twenty years, and I think that this typeof planning ahead for the future of the city is important to Edmontonians and voters. For Ward 4 in particular, I want there to be afocus on the continued renewal of Fort Road, and other major arteries. I continue to support the expansion of the LRT lines andpublic transit as well.

    Number three issue, and why?

I will continue to introduce and support measures undertaken by the City of Edmonton to ensure Edmonton maintains itsinternational reputation as a leader in green initiatives. The provision of affordable, user-friendly public transit New and ongoing conservation initiatives Providing homeowners bonuses when purchasing energy efficient appliances Insistence on the provision of walking trails especially those in the river valley

Adequate green pace keeping pace with new development

Which should be a higher spending priority for council, LRT construction or road construction, and why?

Both. I do not think that a single option can be, or should be a priority over the other. I think that the development ofinfrastructure and the planning for a great city needs to involve a directive that marries both road construction and public transittogether in an efficient and effective system.

City council has turned down a motion to hold a non-binding plebiscite on keeping the City Centre Airport as a

general aviation facility. Should the new council reopen the airport issue?

    . No
