Says the Indianapolis Journal: In the, absence of a teacher last Sunday, Supt. Knippenberg, of the Garden Baptist Sunday School, took charge of a class himself—softie six bright boys. Indirect- ly he had occasion to speak of two roads —one leading to heaven and one to hell —and stated that God had placed the Bible in our hands to direct us to the right road and warn us from walking in the road which leads to ruin. The Su- perintendent wishing to illustrate the importance of the finger-board, asked the boys: "Boys, have you ever been in the country?" "Yes, sir." "Did you ever come to a point where two roads met,and found no finger-board to direct you?" "Yes, sir." •*Whatroad did you take^' "The road that had the most black walnuts on," was the quick response of one of thebright lads. : Knippenberg fonnd the answer too much, and with a loud smile reptied: 'That's right tads; go for the black walnuts." "Twice one is won," repeated an ur- chin in an absent minded way. "What" cried his father, "have I spent so much money on your education with tio better results than that? Twice one is two, sir."* "Wvll, dad," replied the young hopeless, "f will admit that yon are right from ohe.standpoint, but with all due deference to y6u as triy paterflal progenitor, I must beg leave to main- tain, that; when I win two one dollar bills on a horse-race, twice oac is won." Nicholson is an old hand at the drug business, and a man who thoroughly understands it. Dr. Porter intends to resign his position ̂ in the army as Boon as he is ordered away from Gamp Hancock, and will settle down in Bismarck. Nicholson & Porter will make a strong team, and we wish the new firm success.

The man who filled his pipe out of Kemper's tobacco, says he don't want a*iy more of that. There happened to be a small revolver cartridge in the tobacco and unfortunatly he got it into his pipe, lit her up and soon after was seen going down the street at the rate of about forty-five miles per hour hollowing "I am shot! I am shot 11" bringing up against the hardware store, but on-examination it was found that he had only a few front teeth dislocated, and his pipe gone, probably "where the woodbine twineth." Had it not been for the building he run against he would no doubt be going yet. Kemper leaves the tobacco box on the counter just the same Hut has not had occasion to fill it up lately.—Perham News.

Says the Indianapolis Journal: In the, absence of a teacher last Sunday, Supt. Knippenberg, of the Garden Baptist Sunday School, took charge of a class himself—softie six bright boys. Indirectly he had occasion to speak of two roads —one leading to heaven and one to hell —and stated that God had placed the Bible in our hands to direct us to the right road and warn us from walking in the road which leads to ruin. The Superintendent wishing to illustrate the importance of the finger-board, asked the boys:

"Boys, have you ever been in the country?"

"Yes, sir." "Did you ever come to a point where

two roads met,and found no finger-board to direct you?"

"Yes, sir." •*Whatroad did you take^' "The road that had the most black

walnuts on," was the quick response of one of thebright lads. :

Knippenberg fonnd the answer too much, and with a loud smile reptied: 'That's right tads; go for the black walnuts."

"Twice one is won," repeated an urchin in an absent minded way. "What" cried his father, "have I spent so much money on your education with tio better results than that? Twice one is two, sir."* "Wvll, dad," replied the young hopeless, "f will admit that yon are right from ohe.standpoint, but with all due deference to y6u as triy paterflal progenitor, I must beg leave to maintain, that; when I win two one dollar bills on a horse-race, twice oac is won."
