Sent to Dominican convent age 3 to be with her aunt and be educated in the classics

Learns practical skills in running a household This time in France was religious renewal- this

opened a desire in Louise to consecrate herself to God

Age 20 asked permission to enter a religious community of women

denied entrance due to precarious health

Louise de Marillac Arranged marriage by her uncle her legal guardian At age 22 married Antoine La Gras and had a son Michel Antoine became sick and Louise nursed him for several

years He died after 12 years of marriage Louise prayed for strength to care for herself and her 12

year old son Vincent de Paul becomes Louise’s spiritual director A connection begins between the two and history begins
