Next Meeting:
Our next meeting will be held at Faith Community Church at 5315 Harford Road at 6:30 PM on
September 4th
. We have a very informative group coming to educate us about human
trafficking. For many folks (like myself), this is a topic we know so little about. I had no idea
what it meant or what to look for. These are the kind of activities wed like to present on
occasion instead of just our normal business meeting. We will meet from 6:30- to 8:30 pm on
WED September 4th to hear the presentation. All are welcome, so please spread the word &
come join us.
Presidents Letter
Hasn't it been wonderful outside lately? The ol' dog days of summer have turned into the
cooler nights of August. It's nice to have the windows open & yet still have the sunshine duringthe day. But didn't it go too quickly? The kids are already back in school & fall is right around
the corner. Where does the time go?
We at Waltherson have been busy little beavers. We are trying to change things a bit & make
our neighborhood meetings more interesting. We have found a group that is coming to do a
presentation for our community about Human Trafficking. As mentioned in the past newsletter,
many of us do not know what this really entails, so being educated is the key. Our meeting will
be moved this month from Harbel to Faith Community Church at 5315 Harford Rd at 6:30 pm to
8:30 pm. We will hold all normal discussions so that we can spend time on this topic. So, grab
your neighbors or a friend & come on down.
Many of you have been following the plans for a gym on Holder at the Zion Christian School,
which recently went to zoning for the variance they need. We are still following this & expect to
hear back from the school about the plans & changes we had asked them to consider. We will
keep you informed when this comes up so that you may participate in the planning. No final
decisions have been made but we expect to call for a special meeting sometime in September.
October will be another fun month for us. It is Waltherson Improvement Association's 70th
anniversary! We are proud of our community; it is the people that hold this neighborhood in
high regards. So, let's PARTY! We are planning a BLOCK PARTY on Saturday, October 19th at
Faith Community's parking lot from 1:30 - 4:30. Food, fun, & games will be available. Come out& meet your neighbors. Bring us your ideas, get involved, and bring a new neighbor.
See you soon!

IN AND AROUND WALTHERSON
Gym/Classroom Development proposal @ 4915 Holder Ave
Zion School addition: They would like to build a gym and two classrooms as a separate
detached building & parking areas. We have met with them and discussed the plans and Zion is
in the process of updating the plans to address community concerns. We expect to call a special
meeting to review the updated plans in September.
Block Captains
Weve mentioned this in past newsletters & will continue to develop this concept. Since we are
a small group, we need your help. If we utilize block captains as resources, we build a stronger
team in all segments of the area. People would go directly to the block captains for their
concerns. These would be filtered out, utilizing the resources & contact we have. Each block
captain would have a list of contacts & then report back to the entire group & to the executive
board. If everyone pitches in, we can all do our part. Please, find something that is your
passion. Maybe gardening is your thing, maybe vacant houses really annoys you, maybe you
want to help a neighbor whose house needs some repairs. Whatever be the case, if we all do
our part, we can help each other.
Involvement Opportunities
We have identified a list of areas for neighborhood improvement and have established a series
of committees to focus on these particular areas. If you would like more information or are
interested in getting involved in any of the committees below please contact us at
[email protected]. If you are interested in participating on our board, Walthersons
annual elections will be held at our November meeting.

Future Meetings
Projection: We are still considering moving our meeting days to Tuesday& only having a
business meeting quarterly. However, we will set up dates in between our business meetings
to gather. We are asking that you help come up with ideas that youd like to do together: go
meet at the snowball stand at Walther Gardens, go for appetizers at one of the many local
restaurants, go for a walk whatever. This would keep us connected but not just for a business
meeting. The executive board would still meet monthly. Our desks are always working, as
most communications come via the internet. We have lots going on behind the scenes which
we try to keep you abreast on as well.
Tuesday Market
Please remember to come out to the Tues Farmers Market across from Safeway is EVERY Tues
from 4-8 pm. Many folks walk up, get dinner, buy some fresh veggies or crafts, or just chat with
your neighbors. Its a nice thing to have in our community, so lets support it.
Styrofoam / Polystyrene Recycling
If you want to recycle Styrofoam but cannot make it to the sanitation yard, Waltherson
member Louise Harmony has offered to drop it off. Please get in touch with Robert Walshe at a
meeting or by e-mailing us [email protected] you are interested. You can also leave
a message for us on Facebook or tweet us @WalthersonAssoc.
Note: CHECK THE BOTTOM OF THE CONTAINER FOR A NUMBER 6. Only number 6 items areaccepted. No peanuts or packing material.
NECOPNortheast Citizens on Patrol
In Northeast Baltimore we have a district wide Citizens on Patrol program called NECOP. The
reasoning behind the COP program is that regular neighborhood patrols can make criminals feel
uncomfortable and drive them out of our neighborhood. Participants meet at the Northeast
Police station at 1900 Argonne Drive near Morgan State and get a walkie talkie to keep them in
contact with the Police and then proceed to patrol their neighborhoods in their cars. Patrols
normally go out each Thursday and Friday from about 7:30 - 10:30. For anyone interested inthe Citizens on Patrol program, please contact Rob [email protected].
Enterprise Rent-A-Car coming to Waltherson
Enterprise Rent-a-car will be opening a location at 4838 Belair Road the corner of Woodlea Ave
and Belair Road.
