Walter Perry " A Great Place to Be"
Walter Perry Junior Public School, is located in the ScarboroughJunction community on Falmouth Avenue south of Eglinton. Theschool first opened in 1954. The school is named after aprominent community leader William Walter Perry. At WalterPerry, we work together to make our school "a great place to be!"
• At Walter Perry, the staff is dedicated to supporting allchildren and parents in our community to ensure thateach student achieves academic, athletic, social andinterpersonal success
• Walter Perry is a Model Inner City School as designatedby the Ministry and focusing on student and parentengagement.
• We are a TRIBES and Character Development schoolpromoting the ten TDSB character attributes.
Student Nutrition = StudentLearningStudents need to eat a healthybreakfast before school and maintainproper nutrition throughout the day. Awell fed student is a student ready tolearn. To this end Walter Perry runsboth a morning breakfast club and amorning snack program. All students are eligible and a smalldonation is requested but not required as the program issubsidized. We are happy to say that every child in the school participates inthe snack program and we serve breakfast to about 10 -15 students each day.

Student SupportWalter Perry services a wide variety of student needs. We have astrong ESL program. We have a primary and a junior home schoolclass in addition to a Primary Autism ISP class. On top of that ourstaff continue to learn about and implement strategies designed toreach as many students as possible.
TechnologyWalter Perry continues to develop its computer lab, we now have 28computers in our lab as well as computers in all classrooms. Wehave upgraded our wireless to allow for the students to use iPads,and Cromebooks to support their program. We have four interactivePromethean boards for student learning.
ActivitiesStudent success comes in more ways than only academics.Athletic, social emotional, interpersonal success is very important increating a well rounded student. Water Perry students have manyextra curricular choices available to them. House league, teamsports, clubs, art, music, crafts, chess, choir, band- the list goes onand on -get involved and enjoy.
Home - School CommunicationThis is an essential part of student success. The more parentsknow about what their children are doing at school, the more theycan support both them and the school to ensure work andassignments are promptly and accurately completed. Our two maincommunication tools are the student agenda and our website. Weurge parents to use these tools on a daily basis.

Student Life - Where You Belong
Students at Walter Perry can expect to arrive to a welcomingand nurturing environment. We set high for our students inall areas and work hard at establishing positive relationshipswith the students. Students have the right to feel safe andsecure here and we work very hard to ensure our studentsbehave appropriately and solve conflicts peacefully.While at school, our studentshave the opportunity toparticipate in a wide variety of activities and to demonstratetheir learing and talents in many venues. Our talented choirhas represented Perry many times in public settings and hasbeen on TV several times.
What Sets Us Apart
We have great kids at Walter Perry. There is not a day thatgoes by where we don't see acts of kindness, compassionand caring from our students. The school can get prettybusy and stressful at times but a walk through the halls orthe class rooms reveals hard working students, engaged inlearning and when at play, working well together and solvingproblems effectively. Walter Perry is a family composed ofstudents of cultures from all over the world, working verysuccessfully together.
Parent and Community Engagement
Walter Perry collaborates with several community and socialagencies: York University, OISE, Ryerson University Nursing school,Aisling Discoveries Child and Family Centre and Secondary Schoolco-operative education programs. The ARC program is hosted outof Walter Perry in conjunction with the Toronto Parks and RecreationDepartment.Our School Council continues to grow and we haveseveral parent volunteers who assist with library, Scientist in theschool, ERI program and in classrooms. Walter Perry's ParentCouncil is maturing and we have had excellent attendance at thisyears meetings. Things can only get bigger and better from here.
Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety ofopportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices. Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice,access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financialstability.
