The Trip

There are two main routes to get to “the river of grass” and that’s by taking i75 south exit on 29, take i75 to 41 depending on what part of the Everglades your interested in viewing.

Hotels

If your canoeing through the everglades the only place you can stay is on a raised island or a chickee, which is a raised platform. If you want to take a more luxurious route you might want to check out The Ivey House.

If you visit the Shark Valley Visitor Center for an airboat tour you should know about there restaurant that they have. They have an assortment of Everglades style food which includes the delicious gator tail.

Airboats

Air boating is the quickest way to get around in the Everglades. These high-powered fan boats can skim on as little as 6 inches of water. While they are loud they are also the most efficient way of traveling great distances. If you are interested in air boat tours view the links below

Canoeing

Canoeing through the Everglades isn’t for everyone. It will take 9 days to travel through the 99 mile Wilderness Waterway. Not recommended for rookie canoers. An outfitter such as North American Canoe Tours will arrange a pick up and drop off. All Ivey house guest receive a 20% discount.
