• Wal-Mart is implementing a new way of conducting business– All the products they sell will undergo a
Chemical Assessment Review Process
• Why?– To enhance their current compliance process– Assist in furthering their environmental
sustainability efforts
CARP
• Provides Wal-Mart consistent MSDS and accurate safety information at store level for their customers and associates
So What Does it Mean for the Manufacturer?
• All manufactured products distributed to Wal-Mart since May 8, 2006, will need to undergo CARP
So What Does it Mean for the Manufacturer?
• To perform CARP, the Manufacturer needs to provide certain information about their products like:– UPC/GTIN– Wal-Mart Supplier No.– Supplier Corporate Contact Information– Transportation Information– Supplier Emergency Phone Number– Complete Breakdown of Formula (+ incidentals)– Physicochemical Data– Product Characteristics (burn rate, compressed gas,
toxicological information)– Product MSDS
So What Does it Mean for the Manufacturer?
• The Manufacturer must agree to an amended Suppliers Agreement.
Who Receives this Info and in What Format?
• WERCS (Worldwide Environmental & Regulatory Compliance Systems) Professional Services, LLC– 3rd Party Hired by Wal-Mart
• Web Form (i.e., via on-line connection)
What Info is Required Exactly?
• REQUIRED– Product name– Valid Wal-Mart e-mail– Product usage (i.e.
fragrance, disinfectant, etc)
– All ingredients, %, and CAS numbers.
