She made the finals and ran the 800m dash with a time of 2:39.80 on Saturday. We have several requests for "those" tickets. Sam Center called from Llano to let us know he's considering sending the error to "The Tonight Show". It is a health problem for which new treatments constantly are being evaluated. Several new medicine have been approved in the last two years. Recently, the Food and Drug Administration approved a new drug for noninsulin dependent diabetes (this is sometimes called type II diabetes). The new medicine, troglitazone (Rezulin) reduces resistance to the body's natural insulin. Insulin resistance is the underlying problem in persons with type II diabetes. Diabetes researchers believe the new drug improves the way glucose is taken into muscle cells. The overall effect is to lower the amount of glucose in the bloodstream. Some individuals who now take oral diabetes medicines along with insulin may be able to discontinue insulin after switching to troglitazone. The starting daily dose is 100 mg twice a day, which can be increased up to a total of 600 mg per day. Use of the drug during pregnancy is not recommended. Troglitazone is one of the drugs currently being tested in the large Diabetes Prevention Trial. This three year study, which began in 1996, is evaluating drugs that may be able to prevent or delay the onset of type II diabetes. S. •One of the new officers coming on board here will be Bill Lattimore who had been working for the Colum- bus Police Department. His wife, Rhanda, works for the Citizen and used to cover Commissioners' Court for this publication when she was employed by the Banner Press.

We welcome Bill to our PD and hope this will, maybe, get Rhanda down here more often to visit. After all, both their sons were born at the Eagle Lake Hospital. Shouldn't they get to know the town in which they were born?

New Type of Medicine Approved for Diabetes Diabetes is a significant health problem that affects many persons

without regard to race, age, sex, or economic factors. It is a health problem for which new treatments constantly are being evaluated. Several new medicine have been approved in the last two years. Recently, the Food and Drug Administration approved a new drug for noninsulin dependent diabetes (this is sometimes called type II diabetes).

The new medicine, troglitazone (Rezulin) reduces resistance to the body's natural insulin. Insulin resistance is the underlying problem in persons with type II diabetes. Diabetes researchers believe the new drug improves the way glucose is taken into muscle cells. The overall effect is to lower the amount of glucose in the bloodstream. Some individuals who now take oral diabetes medicines along with insulin may be able to discontinue insulin after switching to troglitazone. The starting daily dose is 100 mg twice a day, which can be increased up to a total of 600 mg per day. Use of the drug during pregnancy is not recommended.

Troglitazone is one of the drugs currently being tested in the large Diabetes Prevention Trial. This three year study, which began in 1996, is evaluating drugs that may be able to prevent or delay the onset of type II diabetes.
