This week the team celebrated five winners including those of a couple of gallopers who have been ear marked as Queensland Carnival hopefuls for some time.

The Birchall family’s home-bred Encosta Line’s dashing win over 1900m at Rosehill cemented his target as the Queensland Derby while smart grey galloper Sir Bacchus’ win makes his case for a start in the Stradbroke even stronger.

In addition to these two exciting 3yos Religify also graced the winners’ circle at Rosehill and with talent to burn we hope he can continue on with some more good performances in the coming months.

Pursuit of Honour and Flaunting made up the quintet, both breaking maiden ranks with bright futures ahead of them.

The Hunter Valley TBA also unearthed some more winners for the team this week. Japonisme was crowned Champion 3yo male with Lyn Ingham on hand to accept the award while Winx was heralded the Champion Racehorse.

Over the next few days we have plenty of runners spread around the country with strong chances in Scone today and of course Delectation, Japonisme and Counterattack stepping out in the Group One BTC Cup at Doomben tomorrow.

We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable weekend with plenty of racing luck!

lCHRIS WALLER RACING - WINNERS THIS WEEK

encosta line3yo G Encosta de Lago - Adaline by Court of Jewels

Michael and Catherine Birchall’s exciting young son of Encosta De Lago seemed to relish the step up in distance when winning at Rosehill on Saturday over 1900m.

Rory Hutchings had Encosta Line close to the pace throughout and he took the lead early in the straight before staying on strongly for an easy victory. A tilt at the Queensland Derby is now on the cards for this very promising three year old.

religify5yo G Choisir - Sacred Witness by El Moxie

This talented son of Choisir has been in fine form of late and gained a well deserved success at Rosehill on Saturday over 1350m.

Brenton Avdulla took the mount and he bounced Religify straight to the front from the barriers and the pair were never headed to score a gutsy success with stable-mate Rockolicious finishing in second. This was the seventh career win for Religify with plenty more to come from him in the future.

sir bacchus3yo G Sebring - Bacchanal Woman by Encosta de Lago

Sir Bacchus made it back to back wins to begin this preparation when winning over 1200m at Rosehill on Saturday.

Rory Hutchings’ claim was well-utilised with Sir Bacchus having top weight and he rode the son of Sebring with plenty of confidence, settling him at the rear of the field early on.

As they straightened for the judge Sir Bacchus still had a wall of horses in front of him but once pulled to the outside, he stormed home to hit the front close to the line for an impressive victory. A trip to Queensland is now likely for this promising sort.

flaunting3yo F Denman - Chosen by Redoute’s Choice

The Morgan and Devine family’s daughter of Denman has always shown plenty of promise and she broke through for a well deserved maiden win at Hawkesbury on Tuesday over 1300m.

Glyn Schofield was aboard and he rode a patient race settling Flaunting at the rear of the field early on before she finished strongly in the straight to score comfortably at the finish.

pursuit of honour3yo G Street Cry - Light Chance by Carnegie

Hobartville Stud’s son of Street Cry broke his maiden in good style at Newcastle on Saturday over 2040m.

Jeff Penza took the mount and he had him settled in midfield early before taking the lead early in the straight.

Pursuit Of Honour then kept going strongly to hold off stablemate High Wind (Shoot Out’s little brother) who finished in second position.

Waller favourite for trainers’ challenge

Chris Waller is the odds-on favourite to win the opening round of a trainers' challenge over the six Group One meetings of the Brisbane winter carnival. Sponsored by wagering company UBET in conjunction with Racing Queensland, trainers will be given points on a 15, 10 and 5 basis for the first three placegetters in each of the 41 Group and Listed races to be run.

Sydney's premier trainer is at $1.10 to get the most points at Saturday's Doomben meeting featuring the Group One BTC Cup in which he has three runners - Japonisme, Delectation and Counterattack.

The winner receives a luxury car or a trip to the Kentucky Derby and daily winners also receive prizes of QTIS vouchers which can be used at Inglis and Magic Millions sales around Australia. - AAP TURF

Amovatio out for another stakes race win

The Scone Cup is not so much an afterthought as a diversion for Amovatio.

Trainer Chris Waller had planned to send him to Brisbane after his recent Hawkesbury Gold Cup win but decided to give Amovatio his chance in Friday's Listed race.

"He was originally going to Queensland but it would be arrogant to drive straight past Scone where there is a $200,000 race," Waller said.

"He has drawn well and is in good form and the race is over a mile (1600m) which suits him.

"He has come through Hawkesbury well so we will see what he can do."

Amovatio graduated to stakes company less than a year ago, winning the Listed Winter Championship at Flemington in July.

After a spell he returned in October to take out a 1400m Listed race at Caulfield and two starts later ran unplaced in the Group One Emirates Stakes.

His sights were lowered in the autumn and his best performance in three starts before the Hawkesbury Gold Cup was third in the Group Three Newcastle Newmarket run at Rosehill in March.

Amovatio, to again be ridden by apprentice Rory Hutchings, is on the third line of Scone Cup betting at $7 alongside Goldstream with High Midnight the early favourite at $4.60 and Hawkesbury Cup runner-up Mighty Lucky at $6.

The Waller-trained Tales Of Grimm is at $9.50 to defend the race he won in 2015 when trained by the now-disqualified Sam Kavanagh.

At his first start for Waller, Tales Of Grimm was second in the deferred Hawkesbury Gold Cup in June and finished midfield this year.

"He had a long break after that and third-up should be at peak fitness," Waller said. - AAP TURF

Former Chris Waller wonder mare Catkins booked to be served by

Medaglia d’Oro at studCatkins, one of Australia’s most loved race mares over the past decade, had Darley’s $110,000 shuttle stallion Medaglia d’Oro named as her stud partner this week.

The Ingham family consisting of Lyn, John and Robbie Ingham and Debbie Kepitis, made the decision after consultation with their breeding advisors and were unanimous with their selection and looking forward to the opportunity of racing Catkins’ offspring in the not too distant future.

Debbie Kepitis told Bloodlines: “Catkins means an awful lot to us as a family and to say that she did the cerise colours proud would be an understatement.

"She has settled in very well at Coolmore and we're very excited by the prospect of racing her progeny in time. We've all been involved in the game for a long time and recognised what an important role luck plays in trying to breed quality racehorses.

"That said, we've had a lot of fun with our homebreds over the last 18 months with the likes of Japonisme, Sadler's Lake and Wine Tales and there are a few nice younger horses coming through.

"We went through the same process with her mating as we do with all our mares, consulted our advisors and we agreed on Medaglia d'Oro. We'll just keep our fingers crossed that Catkins breeds healthy, sound progeny and the rest will look after itself."

Catkins had captured the imagination of racegoers for four seasons of racing when her retirement announcement was made by Chris Waller on March 1. She had amassed earnings of $1,960,060 with 16 wins and 13 placings earning an average of $51,580 every time she went to the races.

She never won at group 1 level but the daughter of Dubawi was a multiple black type performer after commencing her career with a Kembla win on January 11, 2012. Catkins was a Magic Millions purchase in 2011 for $85,000 and the pleasure the Ingham family enjoyed was one of the real racetrack romances of the past 10 years. - SMH
