Wall plaque
• A wall plaque is a relief sculpture which hangs on a wall.
• Relief: sculpture projecting from a background plane
• It is not a functional piece of art like pottery.
• It is meant to be decorative and interesting as an artwork.

Use these Elements of Art:
Line – Marks made with a drawing instrument from one point to another.
Shape – 2 dimensional outlines of an area.
Form – 3 dimensional object which takes up space.
Space – The area surrounding a shape or form.
Use these Principles of design
• Unity – A sense of oneness and harmony within an artwork.
• Variety – A diversity of visual elements within an artwork.
• Balance – visual equilibrium
Sketch the wall plaque• Draw 3 different creative sketches for a
wall plaque.• Be sure to include each of the art
elements and principles listed above. • Your plaque may have any theme you
choose.• Choose the most successful, interesting
sketch. Color it with colored pencils.
Build the plaque
• Roll out clay into a 4x6” slab about 1/2” thick.• Use additive and subtractive methods.• Be sure to include all elements and principles
listed above in your design. • It must have a hole or loop to hang it.• Thoroughly clean, smooth, or texture the work.• After the plaque is bisque fired, paint it using
the color scheme you developed in your sketch.
