top of the Rambla we find the Teatre Pricipal (main theatre) 8 and right next to it, we find the Plaça de les Neus (square) with the most modern façade of the church, dedicated to the saint patrons of Vilanova, Sant Antoni Abat and the Mare de Déu de les Neus 9 .
3. A WALK AROUND THE OLD VILANOVA (LENGTH 1 H)
The Sant Antoni Abat parish church 1 and its bell tower 2 sli-ghtly leaning are the starting point to this itinerary. The Font de Ferro (Iron fountain) 3 in Fossar Vell street and the Casa Samà in Major street stand out. We continue along Església street to see the mo-dernist building of Vilanova’s Choir 4 and we get to the square Pau Casals, headquarters of the first Town Hall in Vilanova 5 , where a tiled panel serves as testimony. On the right, Comerç street-old way towards the sea- takes us to Les Cols square 6 , and going straight down the street Sant Antoni street leads to us the only remain from the first fortified enclosure in Vilanova, the Pont del Nin (a bridge) 7 . Following Del Palmenar street we get to the Pou square which has a stone fountain 8 built to commemorate the arrival of tap water in the village and which was dedicated to the local religious Archbishop Francesc Armanyà. Then we go to the Casernes square where there is a military building 9 which is both a Local Art and Design School and a sports pavilion. Further up, we find the old local slaughterhouse which became the Mestre Montserrat Municipal Music Conservatory. We cross the square and we go along Premses street towards the Can Papiol Romantic Museum 10 , an ancient house which shows us how wealthy families from the XIX century used to live. Very near, we find La Sala Contemporary Art Centre 11 and in number 5, the house of the painter Joaquim Mir Trinxet. On top of the street the building of the Sant Antoni Abat Hospital raises, and the old chapel of the Convent dels Pares Carmelites Descalços 21 from the XVIII century. An olive tree in front of the missing house where Francesc Macià was born pays tribute to the president of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
4. A WALK AROUND LA GELTRÚ (LENGTH 1 H)
We leave the first fortified enclosure in Vilanova, the Pont del Nin (a bridge) 1 , towards the Pou square 2 in order to get into the his-torical heart of La Geltrú. The Unió street, where the torrent of the Pastera passes by, is the physical divison between the old villages of Vilanova and La Geltrú. From there, it is easy to spot the Old Fish Market 3 , right in the centre of the old heart of La Geltrú old central market main fish market from 1858 until 1941, when the Mercat del Centre opened. Along the Pont street we get to the castle of La Geltrú 4 , rebuilt on top of the base of the old medieval castle and which
nowadays it is used as the Regional Historical Archive. Right in front of the castle there is the parish of Santa Maria de La Geltrú 5 which holds a beautiful polychromatic wooden altarpiece dedicated to the Mare de Déu, dated from the XVII century. If we follow the Arengaders street and connect with the Ravalet street until the Bonaire street, we will find the Bosser’s house 6 , the royal tax receiver. Finally, we get to the Lledoners square 7 , where there used to be one of the entrance gates to the village.

It offers many possibilities: walking along the beach, bathing in its warm water, sailing on it in many different ways and enjoy its fruits on the table.
THE BEACHESThe urban beaches spread between two hills around Vilanova I la Geltrú. In the East, Sant Cristòfol and in the West, Sant Gervasi. At the foot of the hill of Sant Critòfol we find the Platja del Far (lighthouse beach) of Vilanova or the Sant Cristòfol beach, and passed the harbor, the other urban beaches: Ribes Roges, Adarró, La República and Sant Gervasi. From the hill of Sant Gervasi, the coast which opens between Vilanova and Cubelles reminds us of the old wetlands landscape and it is where the most virgin beach meet, the Platja Llarga (long beach) and Ibersol beach.

WALKINGTOURS1. A WALK ALONG BAIX-A-MARAND THE SEASIDE FRONT (LENGTH 1,30 H)
In the village of Adarró 1 we find the remains of an Iberian site from the ethnic group of the Cossetans and also a Roman village located wi-thin the Tarraco territory. The Pasifae sculpture 2 , work by the sculptor from Vilanova Òscar Estruga, represents the Hellenic myth of the Mi-notaur.In the residential area of Ribes Roges, together with a series of modernist houses, we find the Torre Blava (blue tower) 3 , a defence tower from the XIX century which the artist Josep Guinovart turned into a space to pay tribute to the sailors. At this point, the Del Carme starts. It is one of the most important leisure points in the town, full of terraces and restaurants, the Parc de Ribes Roges and the marina. At the junction with La Rambla, the monument of Francesc Macià 4 , president of Ca-talonia and son of the town, stands out. From here on, the sailors’district starts, with the Casa del Mar 5 , the old Pòsit de Pescadors (fisher-men’s building) 6 , which is now the Centre Civic de Mar and Cal Mà de la Fassina 7 , a typical fishermen house with a porch on the rooftop terrace. We get to the fishermen’s dock 8 , where you can see the arri-val of boats around 8 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. The Espai Far 9 , located at the Far de Sant Cristòfol (lighthouse) is a museum centre which shows the rich sailor heritage in Vilanova. From there, you can see the remains of the old Molí de Mar (windmill) 10 and if you go up the hill you get to the Sant Cristòfol hermitage 11 .
2. A WALK ALONG THE RAMBLA (LENGTH 1 H)
The Francesc Macià monument 1 , work by the artist Josep M. Subirachs, is the beginning of this walk along the Rambla, which is more than one kilometre long. Going up, once you have passed the bridge under the rai-lway, we find Can Pahissa 2 , the most remarkable modernist building in Vilanova. It is recommended to take a detour towards the railway sta-tion to visit the Catalonia Railway Museum 3 , which holds the most important collection of steam locomotives in Europe, and the Víctor Ba-laguer Museum Library 4 , one of the oldest museums in the country, founded in 1884 by Víctor Balaguer himself. Back in la Rambla, we find the Casa Renard (Magrinyà) 5 , modernist building where the dancer and choreographer Joan Magrinyà lived. Following, a series of opulent houses (no. 104, 82, 80, 76, 61, 50) go along this area of the new dis-trict. At the level of the Francesc Macià avenue, the left way leads us to the Mercat del Centre (central market) 6 and the one on the right to the Plaça de la Vila (main square) 7 , a colonial style square and heart of the town and its daily activity, where there is also the town hall. GASTRONOMIC CAPITAL
As a town traditionally rooted to the work of the sea and the land, Vila-nova i la Geltrú offers gastronomy based on the quality of the product. Both the traditional way of elaboration and the proposals of new inter-pretation are present on the tables around the numerous restaurants in our town.
The fish is the main ingredient in many dishes in our cuisine. The famous prawn from Vilanova is the emblem of a fish market where more than one hundred ships arrive every day with the most characteristic species of our coast and which are the base of our cuisine. From the most fa-mous species such as sea bass, hake, gilt-head bream, sole, monkfish, our autochthonous maira and the most classic varieties of blue fish, to lobster, winkles, cuttlefish, squid and octopus, among many others, without forgetting all the range of fish to make soup, broth, all cremat and allipebre (fish stew), and rice dishes.
Vilanova i la Geltrú produces different varieties of vegetables as well. These high-quality products have become notorious thanks to the work of farmers and restaurateurs. Brotons and espigalls (local cabbage lea-ves and sprouts which are only grown in Vilanova i la Geltrú) and the col paperina (type of cabbage) are some of the most valued varieties due to their organoleptic properties, together with the escarola perruqueta or de

cabell d’àngel (type of escarole), main protagonist in the famous Xató.
Vilanova i la Geltrú has a sweet tooth and has famous desserts such as the meringue and the coca de llardons (pine nut cake) –typical in Carni-val– and the llunes de Vilanova, biscuits which have become a friendly symbol of identity of the people of Vilanova, which is inspired by the legend of a peasant from La Geltrú who wanted to keep the moon, which was reflected on the water, in a basket.
But when it comes to choosing an ambassador dish in Vilanova i la Gelt-rú, that has to be the Xató. The authentic and original one. A sauce made with roasted almonds and hazelnuts, garlic, olive oil, bread, vinegar and the pulp of the nyora (sweet red pepper), on top of a salad with escarole, cod, tuna, sardines, arbequinas (green olives) and Aragon black olives.
