U Important Note on Product Safety
Elevated voltages are inevitably present at specific points in this electrical equipment. Some of theparts can also have elevated operating temperatures.Non-observance of these conditions and the safety instructions can result in personal injury or inproperty damage.Therefore only trained and qualified personnel may install and maintain the system.The system complies with the standard EN 60950 / IEC 60950. All equipment connected has tocomply with the applicable safety standards.
Safety Warnings: Protective earth must be securely fixed (GND STUD) and installed prior to TNV (Telecom
Network Voltage) connections. AC power must be disconnected prior to changing the Power Supply fuse.
DC cable shield must be connected to ground on both sides. A secure connection to the BUcase should be provided via the D-type connector.
Powering off the indoor units is performed by disconnecting the DC power supply cable. When disconnecting the DC power supply cable from the Main Distribution Power, first
disconnect the +/-48 V supply, and only then the DC cable shield. E1 output cables should be installed within the same building as the Base Station BU.

The base station provides telecom service to Terminal Stations (TSs) which areinstalled at the customer premises and connected to the CPE (such as PBXs,fax machines, PCs).
WALKair implements a proprietary, patent-pending air protocol for communicationbetween the base station and terminal stations. The access method is based on aTDMA/FDMA/FDD scheme.
WALKair features a modular architecture which helps reduce startup costs, minimizeinitial investment and maximize gradual growth capabilities.

2 Base Station Installation
2.1 GeneralThe base station provides service to a coverage area of up to 10 km, extended in a360 o radius (referred to as a cell). The base station provides the interfaces to thetelecom switches. The base station consists of several sectors, which cover the cell(the cell can be covered by 3 sectors of 120 o, 6 sectors of 60 o or a combination of 60 o
and 120 o antennas).
The configuration of the sector is modular, and can contain from one to 16 Basic Units(BU-BS), an IF Multiplexer, a RF unit and an antenna.
All equipment complies with the ETSI 300-019 standard (indoor: class 3.2;
outdoor: class 4.1E).

2.2.2 Site Preparation
Note : only trained personnel should perform Installation.
For successful installation, the following requirements should be met: Pole - Its maximum diameter should not exceed 110 mm (4). Power - The BS is powered by a standard 48 VDC source.
Grounding - Unless specified otherwise by local standards, 10-16-mm 2 cable isrecommended for grounding purposes. Rack and Pole must be grounded before installation. RFU-BS should be grounded using a grounding pin (M6 in diameter), which is
located on the bottom of the RFU, near to the Antenna Connector. IF-MUX-BS should be grounded using a grounding pin (M8 in diameter), which
is located on the IF-MUX rear panel. BU-BS should be grounded using a grounding pin (M8 in diameter), which is
located on the BU-BS rear panel. RFU-TS should be grounded using a grounding pin (M6 in diameter), which is
located on the RFU rear panel, near the mounting adapter. BU-TS should be grounded using a grounding pin (M8 in diameter), which is
located on the BU-TS rear panel. Indoor/outdoor cable - It is recommended to prepare the cable length prior to
installation. In addition, cable attenuation per meter should be determined in alaboratory, prior to cable connection. Cable outdoor connector should be subjectedto outdoor environmental conditions.

2.4 Installing the Outdoor Equipment
2.4.1 GeneralOutdoor installation at the base station consists of the following steps: Mounting the RFU and antenna on a pole Connecting the RFU to the antenna
Note : The IF cable connector must be a certified outdoor connector.The outdoor connectors should be tightened using sleeves.
2.4.2 Mounting the RFU on the Pole
1. Insert a band through the two upper holes at the rear of the RFU.
2. Insert another band through the two lower holes at the rear of the RFU.3. Position the RFU on the pole in the desired location, in vertical position.
4. Tighten the band that you inserted at the top of the RFU around the pole, using anelectric screwdriver (recommended). The band will fit any pole up to 110 mm (4) indiameter.
5. Tighten the second band around the pole using an electric screwdriver.
6. Ground the RF using the ground pin located at the bottom of the RFU, near theantenna N-type.
2.4.3 Mounting the Antenna on the Pole
1. Insert a band through the two upper holes at the rear of the antenna (seeFig. 2.3).
2. Insert another band through the two lower holes at the rear of the antenna (seeFig. 2.3).
3. Position the antenna on the pole, below and rear of the RFU, aligning the pole intothe designated mounting adapter slot (see Fig. 2.2).

4. Tighten the bands that you inserted around the pole, using an electric screwdriver(recommended). The band fits any size pole up to 115 mm in diameter.

2.4.3.1 Multi-Sector InstallationWhen mounting several antennas in one site, a minimum distance of one meter mustbe maintained between antennas, as shown in Fig. 2.4.

2.4.4 Connecting the RFU to the Antenna
Use the supplied RFU Antenna coaxial cable to connect the antenna to the RFU.
Note: The supplied cable is maximum one meter long. Using a customer-suppliedcable of length exceeding one meter may cause signal attenuation.
In case the cable between RFU and Antenna is one meter long, make a loop toshorten the cable and tighten it to the pole using the strips, as shown in Fig. 2.5.

2.4.5 Connecting the RFU to the Indoor Equipment
Prepare a coaxial cable (not supplied in packing list) with two N-type connectors; one
of the connectors should be of 90o
-type. Connect the coaxial cable between the RFUN-type connector and the IF-MUX N-type connector. The 90 connector should beconnected to the IF-MUX. The cable should be tightened to the pole using strips of30 to 50 cm each. The N-type connector connected to the RFU must be certifiedoutdoor connector.
Maximum distance depends on cable type, providing the attenuation does not exceed20 dB. For example, with LMR400 cable, the maximum length is 150 meters.
2.5 Installing the Indoor Equipment
2.5.1 General
The Base Station indoor equipment is comprised of rack-mounted Base Units (BUs),rack-mounted IF Multiplexer units and associated accessories.
The following requirements must be met during the indoor equipment installation: DC cables must be shielded and ups to 3 meters long. DC cable shield must be connected to ground on both sides. IF connection installation should be performed only by trained personnel. 48 V power connection specifications:
Input voltage: 48 V (DC) Current consumption: 0.5 A

The BU-BS interfaces are located on both the front and rear panels of the unit, as
shown in Fig. 2.6 and Fig. 2.7. The BU-BS interfaces are listed in Tab. 2.3 andTab. 2.4.

Extension Bus (2) 25-pin D-type Allows chaining of BU-BSs in Master/Slave managementconfiguration. In this configuration, one BU-BS serves asthe mediation device for all chained BU-BSs. This port is intended for future use.
External Clock (2) RJ45 Allows chaining of BU-BSs, when locking the clock of allchained BU-BSs to an external E1 clock. This port is intended for future use.

2.5.3 IF Multiplexer InterfacesThe IF Multiplexer has 8 SMA port pairs (IN and OUT), each of which can beconnected to a single BU-BS. Two extension bus ports are provided for connecting theIF Multiplexer to a BU-BS for management purposes (intended for future use).
Two extension bus ports are provided on the rear panel for chaining the IF Multiplexerand BU-BSs for the purpose of connection to a management system (for future use).

2.5.4 Mounting the BU-BSs in Racks
2.5.4.1 Preparing the Indoor Equipment for Rack MountingThe Base Station indoor equipment can be installed in the following types of racks: ETSI 19"
The BU-BSs comes with rack mounting brackets, which are suitable for installation inboth types of racks. Fig. 2.10 and Fig. 2.11 show how to attach the mounting bracketsfor both rack types.
The IF Multiplexer comes with two different sets of mounting brackets, one for eachtype of rack. The method of connecting the mounting brackets is similar to that used forthe BU-BSs, as shown in Fig. 2.11.

2.5.4.2 Installing Rack Mounted Equipment
The base station indoor equipment (BU-BSs) can be installed in racks, using Verticalmounting (shown in Fig. 2.12).

To install BU-BSs with Vertical Rack Mounting:
1. Ground the rack in accordance with the local standards.
2. Connect the two mounting bars (supplied in the packing list) to the rack, at verticaldistance of 19 inches from each other (rack screws are not supplied), as shown inFig. 2.13. Maintain a vertical distance of 1U between the BU-BSs and the top endof the fan unit for proper ventilation of the rack-mounted equipment and for accessto cable routing.

3. Attach mounting brackets to the BU-BSs.Note : When mounting BU-BSs in the vertical configuration, you can attach either
type of mounting brackets (ETSI or 19").
4. Insert the BU-BSs as shown in Fig. 2.12, using two screws at each end to attachthe BU-BSs to the mounting brackets.
5. Connect the earth ground to the Ground screw of each BU-BS. The Ground screwis located on the rear panel of the BU-BS, as shown in Fig. 2.7. The ground pindiameter is M8.
6. Attach mounting brackets to IF Multiplexers.
7. Attach the IF Multiplexers to the rack, on top of the BU-BSs, as shown inFig. 2.12.
8. Connect jumper cables between the IF Multiplexer Rx connector and the BURx connector, and between the IF Multiplexer Tx connector and the BU
Tx connector.Note : Three IF Multiplexers must be installed in a single rack with no spacebetween them, otherwise, the length of the jumper cables will not besufficient.
2.5.4.3 Cable ConnectionsA single cable connects the outdoor equipment to the indoor equipment.
Make the following cable connections to each BU-BS: Connect the BU-BS power connector to the 48 VDC power source. Connect the IF-MUX power connector to the 48 VDC power source. Connect the BU-BS to the IF Multiplexer, using the two supplied jumper cables. Connect the E1 ports to the MDF.
2.5.5 Disconnecting BUs
1. Disconnect the cable connections: Disconnect the jumper cables from the IF Multiplexer. Disconnect the MDF connection from the E1 ports.
2. Disconnect the power connection.
Power off the 48 V indoor unit by disconnecting the DC power supply cable fromthe Power source in the following order:
Disconnect the +/-48 V supply. Disconnect the DC shield.
3. Remove the two screws at each side of the BU (two on top, two on bottom),connecting the BU-BS to the rack mounting brackets.
4. Gently pull the BU-BS outwards.

2.5.5.1 BU-BS LED IndicationsThe front panel of the BU-BS houses 3 LED indicators, listed in Tab. 2.6.

2.5.6 First Time Operation
After connecting the BU-BSs to the 48 VDC power source, the front panel BU-BSLEDs turn on in all three colors. Then the LEDs light according to the highest severityalarm affecting the equipment.

3 Terminal Station Installation
3.1 GeneralThe Terminal Station (TS) is located at the customer premises and is connected to theCustomer Premises Equipment (CPE).
All equipment complies with the ETSI 300-019 standard (indoor: class 3.2;outdoor: class 4.1E).
3.2 Packing ListThe Terminal Station is shipped with the following units and accessories. The exact
packing list will vary, depending on the system configuration and ordered equipment. Base Unit 3.5 GHz/10.5 GHz

3.4 Installing the Outdoor EquipmentThe outdoor unit is a compact integrated RFU and antenna unit which is mounted on amounting adapter. The mounting adapter is easily mounted on the antenna pole, asshown in this paragraph.
Important! WALKair has released two versions of the mounting adapter.The installation procedure for each version is described separately.

3.4.1 Installing Mounting Adapter, Type 1
1. Open the packaging and remove the mounting adapter.
2. Insert two bands in the designated slots.3. Place the RFU upside-down on a clean desktop with the antenna surface facing
down.
4. Place the mounting adapter on top of the RFU (located on the rear side of theAntenna) with the spring on top.
5. Connect the mounting adapter to the backside of the RFU with four 10-mm screws.
6. Slightly loosen 8 screws and adjust the tilt/elevation using the designated screws: To adjust the elevation, swivel the long screw (marked 1 in Fig. 3.2) located on
the bottom of the adapter. When the elevation is properly directed, tighten thetwo screws (marked 2) on both sides of the adapter.
To adjust the tilt, swivel the long screw (marked 3) located on the left side ofthe adapter. When the tilt is properly directed, tighten the two screws(marked 4) on the top and the bottom of the adapter.
Note: Each turn of the tilt/elevation screws is equivalent to 0.5 o ( degree).Tilt adjustment range is 20 o degrees, and elevation adjustment range is 21 o (total of 42 o).

7. Position the RFU on the desired location on the pole, aligning the pole into thedesignated mounting adapter slot; this slot is designed to fit a wide range of poles.The band will fit any pole up to 110 mm (4) in diameter. Use an electrical screw-driver (recommended) to tighten the bands around the pole.

3.4.2 Installing Mounting Adapter, Type 2
This adapter has two installation options, one for tilt adjustment only, and the other for
both tilt and elevation adjustments.The adapter has two parts (as shown in Fig. 3.3): part A for elevation adjustment, andpart B for tilt adjustment.
1. Open the packaging and remove the mounting adapter.
2. Place the RFU upside-down on a clean desktop with the antenna surface facingdown.
3. Place the mounting adapter on top of the RFU (located on the rear side of theAntenna) with the spring on top.
4. Connect the mounting adapter to the upper backside of the RFU (opposite side ofthe N-type connector) with four 10-mm screws.
5. Connect part A to the upper backside of the RFU as shown below.
6. Connect part B to part A as follows: Place the parts so that the upper holes of the two parts match. Connect a screw a nut and a disk to both sides of the adapter. Adjust elevation by tightening the two lower screws, to one of the elevation
holes.

8. Position the RFU on the desired location on the pole, aligning the pole into thedesignated mounting adapter slot; this slot is specially designed to file a wide rangeof poles, up to 115-mm diameter. Tighten the bands around the pole with anelectrical screwdriver.
3.4.3 Connecting the IF Cable
Prepare a coaxial cable (not supplied in the packing list) with two N-type connectors;one of the connectors should be of 90 o type. Connect this cable between the RFUN-type connector and the BU-TS N-type connector. Connect the 90 o connector to theBU.Note : The IF cable connector must be a certified outdoor connector.
The outdoor connectors should be tightened using sleeves.
Maintain a minimum distance of 1 meter between two antennas. Maximum distancedepends on cable type, providing the attenuation does not exceed 20 dB. For example,with LMR400 cable, the maximum distance is 150 meters.
3.5 Installing the Indoor EquipmentThe following requirements must be met during the indoor equipment installation: DC cables must be shielded and up to 3 meters long. DC cable shield must be connected to ground on both sides. IF connection installation should be performed only by trained personnel. 48 V power connection specifications:

The TS indoor equipment is comprised of a single Base Unit (BU-TS), which can beinstalled using one of the following options: Wall mounted Desktop
Rack mounted (19" or ETSI racks)
The indoor mounted BU-TS features front panel connection points for easy access toall interfaces.
A single coaxial cable connects the indoor BU-TS to the outdoor unit.
3.5.1 BU-TS Interfaces
The BU-TS interfaces are located on both the front and rear panels of the unit. Theinterfaces are listed in Tab. 3.3.

2. Drill holes into the desired location on the wall and attach the BU-TS with screws(customer supplied), as shown in Fig. 3.8.

3.5.4 Rack Mounting
Attach the BU-TSs to the mounting brackets using two screws at each bracket
(supplied in the packing list). Attach the BU-TS to the rack using screws (not suppliedin the packing list).
3.5.5 Desktop Installation
The BU-TS comes with four miniature support legs for the desktop option. Attach thesupport legs and place on a clean, flat area.
3.5.6 Completing the Indoor Installation
Connect the earth ground to the Ground screw of each BU-TS. The Ground screw islocated on the rear panel of the BU-TS.
Make the following cable connections to the BU-TS: Connect the BU-TS power connector to the power source. Connect the E1 ports to the MDF.
