Mission Statement: To discover and respond to our call
TO KNOW JESUS TO FOLLOW JESUS TO SERVE JESUS in unique ministries.
Volume XXVIII Issue 10 October, 2013
Walk in the Light
October is here. This means Fall is here! This means cooler weather. This means those of us
reading the Chronological Bible are now in the New Testament!
The fact that it took ten months to get through the Old Testament shows us just how long the
Old Testament is. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the reading thus far. I am left with an over-
whelming sense of God’s faithfulness as I look back over God’s hand through time.
But I am happy to be in the New Testament now. Already I have had some passages jump out
at me.
“For everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for
fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into
the light; so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done
through God.” John 3:20-21
Surprises lurk in this passage. Encouragement too.
Parallel structure waves its hand in this passage. Then comes the surprise.
First we see that doing evil is the opposite of living by the truth. This is clear enough. Evil
always has lies built into it. This is not surprising.
Then we see that evil deeds seek the darkness so the deeds are not exposed. This is clear
enough as well. We are creatures who shun shame.
But the parallel surprised me. I thought it would say if you love the truth you will step into
the light so your deeds will be seen clearly. But this is not what Jesus said. He puts a twist in
the parallel structure. What he said is “whoever lives by the truth comes in the light; so that it
may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

Timothy Project Bible Study: Wednesdays at
7:15PM. Study the Gospels. Learn an indepth study
method and to listen for Jesus’ practical voice of guid-
ance. Come anytime. No experience needed.
(Continued from front page.)
Do you see it? Our goodness is not our own. Our good deeds are not our own. The good that emerges comes
“through God.” This is good news. I am not left alone in my quest to walk in the truth. God walks with me.
God walks with you. Through Jesus we can walk the walk set out for us. This is Good News indeed.
So be encouraged. In this Halloween month of shadows, step completely into the light. If the light exposes you you
have a Savior who forgives. If you are weak-kneed you have a Risen Lord who walks with you.
So be encouraged. Do you have people to step completely into the light with? The body of Christ can be a huge
strength as we choose to live a life in the light and truth. John tells us in I John 1:7 “If we walk in the light, as he is
in the light, we have fellowship with one another…”
I am happy for my small group. I am happy for my various discipleship groups. I am happy for the pastors I regu-
larly meet with. These groups helps me to stay in the light. I find encouragement there.
Seek this encouragement for yourself as well. We were not made to live alone. Best of all, our Savior is with us.
This is the gem I received as I read my devotions today. Stay in God’s Word. You will find strength for your life
there.

Support Rev Dr. Gemechis Buba Media Ministry... now reaching 17 million per
week including the Islamic world. Make an extra offering of $50 to $100 (supports
one broadcast). Designate to "Buba Media Ministry." Rev. Buba is the Assistant to
the Bishop for Mission in the North American Lutheran Church (NALC) and has
significant relationships with the leadership of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC)
also... our two church bodies. Hope's relationship with Rev. Gemechis is an incredible honor. Our
friend Gemechis greatly appreciates Hope's ongoing generosity. Read more at the following link

Ethiopia Mission Trip: As a result of Gemechis' visits to Hope, a number of people from Hope
(youth, young adults and older) have expressed a desire to visit Ethiopia and be a part of the incredi-
ble and significant kingdom work happening there. Gemechis and I engaged in some initial and excit-
ing conversations regarding this. Let Pastor Wendy know of your interest. Stay tuned!
NEW! Miraculously, Jesus (risen and still liv-
ing) is calling ordinary people (young & old &
YOU!) for His kingdom purposes, bringing His
rule, reign, redemption and resurrection power
to bear on people, places and problems in the
mission field of everyday life. This is the ingen-
ious plan of our Lord Jesus! Know your signifi-
cant part... it's utterly crucial to being a Chris-
tian and to capturing the power, potential and
significance of "church." Find out more! Pur-

Lutheran Congregation in
Mission for Christ
LCMC National Convention
October 6-9
This year LCMC has its national convention in De-
troit, MI. I have not attended a national convention
yet so I decided to make way to Detroit this year.
Pastor Wendy will be presenting a workshop at the
convention so she has her ticket paid for.
There will be over 1000 people at the convention and
people will be attending from as far away as Estonia,
Belarus, Australia, Cambodia South Sudan, the
Congo and more.
Because it starts Sunday afternoon I will miss church
on the October 6th. Pastor Marty Hill will be filling in
for Sunday worship.
Layman’s Commandments
Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you
pull out when in trouble, but it is a
"steering wheel" that directs the right
path throughout the journey.
So why is a Car's WINDSHIELD so large
& the Rear View Mirror so small? Be-
cause our PAST is not as important as our
FUTURE. So, Look Ahead and Move on.
Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes a few
minutes to burn, but it takes years to
write.
All things in life are temporary. If going
well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If
going wrong, don't worry, they can't last
long either.
Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are
Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don't for-
get the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond,
you always need a Base of Gold!
Often when we lose hope and think this is
the end, GOD smiles from above and says,
"Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not
the end!
When GOD solves your problems, you
have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD
doesn't solve your problems HE has faith
in your abilities.
A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can
there be anything worse than losing eye
sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vi-
sion!"
When you pray for others, God listens to
you and blesses them, and sometimes,
when you are safe and happy, remember
that someone has prayed for you.
WORRYING does not take away tomor-
row's TROUBLES, it takes away today's
PEACE.
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply.
Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. Author unknown
