WALK TO EMMAUS MEN’S WALK #43 Lay Director’s Summary & Report What an awesome God we serve. God’s perfect plan was experienced as the team prepared for the Walk and
for the team and pilgrims during the Walk.
As a team we were challenged by serious illnesses and injury as we prepared for the Walk. The power of
prayer brought us through congestive heart failure, thyroid disorder and a work accident severing 7 1/2 tendons in
the wrist 9 days before the Walk. All team members were able to participate and be a blessing to others.
“Because He Lives” was out theme song. The presence of the Holy Spirit was evident and strong as both the
pilgrims and the team grew in faith to know that “all fear is gone” and “we can face tomorrow” when we put our
faith in the Lord.
A special thanks to the support team and kitchen crew. Their behind the scenes work is so important to en-
able the Walk to be successful. An extra special praise to Geniece Perkins who made our post candlelight cake
very special by decorating it with “Because He Lives”
When the Lord wants to get our attention sometimes he uses a feather and sometimes a brick. Maybe because
we were a group of mostly men he used a brick. As I was preparing Talk #14 I realized a strong urging by the Holy
Spirit to use the scripture Matthew 22: 35-37 as a key part of my talk even though it was not suggested in the talk
outline. As you know team members do not collaborate ahead of time as to which scripture verses are going to
be included in the talk. As God’s message was unveiled over the 3 days and 15 talks, Matthew 22: 35-37 was in-
cluded in at least 5 talks. Then Sunday morning “our eyes were opened” as we discovered a banner displayed in
the hallway near the conference room that had always been there during the entire walk. “Our hearts burned
within us” as we read on the banner “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and
love your neighbor as yourself” DECOLORES! Bill Barber

Community Lay Director’s News
Thank you to all who made Walk #43 in Olean such a wonderful event. From those who served
on team, or those working behind the scenes, to the sponsors & many prayer warriors. It takes all do-
ing their part to help provide a blessed event. From what was shared during the closings, The Holy
Spirit surely was present and supporting the walks.
We would now like to share in some of the announcements from the Women’s closing. Walk
#44 will be held at The Hamburg UMC.
Men’s walk is March 14-17 Women’s Walk is April 11-14
Lay Director: Jesse Babcock Lay Director: Christa Fathergill
Spiritual Director: Pastor Rick Koch Spiritual Director: Pastor Karen Smith
Please begin to pray for these servants, the teams that God is calling. Most importantly please
join us in praying for whom God is calling each of us to sponsor.
We wish to thank the following Board members who have completed three years of service to
the Board of Directors. Jesse & Cheryl Babcock, Pat Blakeman, Marty & Sue Doherty, Pastor Nilla
Owen and Bob & Sally Shearing. The new board members are Ron & Alice Alsworth for Community,
Allen & Alethia Keiper for Library and Mike Queensberry for Fourth Day. Barb Swanson will be staying
on as Newsletter after completing a partial term. The Board is praying and searching for a new supplies
coordinator. Please contact any board member if you would like to find out more about this position.
Please return your ballot for the new Spiritual Director by the December 5th deadline date. This will be
announced at the Christmas party on December 8th. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
DeColores,
Jim & Lora Keiper
Musicians’ Notes
Rejoice, again I say Rejoice. The Fall Walks are nearly complete and God has blessed our community
with another great group of Pilgrims, but our work is not done just yet. We’ll be having our final fall
musician’s workshop at 8:30 am this Saturday the 17th in Olean prior to the Reunion.
Since there is no rest for the wickedly bless it is time to begin praying for the future Butterflies and the
Chrysalis Teams that will serve them. The Girl’s Flight weekend is January 19th – 21st while the Boy’s
flight will be February 16th – 18th. Gather your Caterpillars and then support the weekends with your
time and talents.

“ Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.” Taken from the Great Thanksgiving
“Now Glory be to God! By His mighty power at work within us, He is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope. May He be given glory in the church and Christ Jesus forever through endless ages. Amen”” Ephesians 3: 20-21 Kitchen Korner
What a great time women’s walk #43 was. We all had so much fun laugh-
ing, cooking, baking and serving the pilgrims & the team. Geniece & I thank all of the great ser-
vants that help last weekend; we could not do it without all of you. So for now everything is
packed away & the trailer is parked, I hope you all got to see the new “look” the kitchen trailer
has now, it has been totally rebuilt with a new blue paint job thanks to another one of God’s
servants. Before you know it March will be here & we’ll be headed to Hamburg for walks #44
but in the meantime we hope to see you all at the Emmaus Christmas party December 8th at the
Hilton UMC. DeColores & God Bless you all. Bill & Geniece
PRAYER CHAIN COORDINATOR As a person who is honored to pray for others and as a person in need of prayer myself, the
Emmaus Prayer Chain has multiple meanings for me. I understand that some people are gifted
in being intercessors and are called to pray for people they know and don't know, with the
knowledge that God Himself hears those prayers and will act on them - in His timing. I truly believe that He calls
some to intercessory because we ourselves will need prayer in our lives and we understand the great need for prayer
in someone else's life. Another reason I believe is that there are people out there who don't ever pray, yet need God's
healing touch in their body, mind or spirit. Someone else MUST pray for them. As a person in need of prayer, I covet
any and all prayers lifted up on my behalf. There are times when I am struggling, I so desperately need to know others
are lifting me up and that my own prayers are being joined with others and will hopefully "make enough noise" to get a
reply ASAP. I have actually felt myself being lift in prayer and that is such an awesome comfort - straight from God!
Whether you are in need of prayer or would like to intercede for others, the Emmaus Prayer Chain can be your con-
nection. My email address is [email protected] and my cell phone number is 585-820-0860. I have voice mail
so if I don't answer, please leave a message! Text, email or verbally call me with your prayer request or desire to be
put on the Prayer Chain. I list of prayers is emailed to the members of the chain and updates are forwarded when re-
ceived. It is important to keep the prayers current so efforts are made to keep up to date. This provides not only a
way to tweek our prayers, but also encourages us when our prayers are answered. You do not have to be on the
chain to submit prayer requests, you simply need knowledge of someone needing prayer. It is a simple way to do
something for the Kingdom of God. DeColores! Nancy Grierson

website is broken.
Please join me in praying for the “website repair guy” as attempts are made to repair the

decision making. I appreciate your patience as the diagnosis is made and the repair work is
completed. In the meantime PLEASE contact me with changes in your contact information. E-

Paul’s letter to Titus
“Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready
for every good work, 2 to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and
to show perfect courtesy toward all people. 3 For we ourselves were once foolish, dis-
obedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in
malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. 4 But when the goodness
and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of
works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of
regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly
through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might be-
come heirs according to the hope of eternal life.8 The saying is trustworthy, and I
want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be
careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable
for people. 9 But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions about the law,
for they are unprofitable and worthless. “ Titus 3:1-10
