WADDELL CHESS CLUB 2012-2013 The Chess Club is open to Waddell Academy students (K-8) serious about learning, playing (recreationally or competitively) or developing their skills in chess. Young children (K-1) will be evaluated to ensure an appropriate maturity level and an adequate level of parental involvement for that group. The Chess Club will meet every Monday beginning October 15, 2012 from 3:15 to 4:30. Registration will be open through the end of October, although new students may join throughout the year based on availability. K-1 students will be asked to attend the first session with a parent or guardian. There is generally not a limitation on the number of participants but we may be constrained by the availability of chess instructors, in which case we will accept students on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each session will be part chess instruction and part chess playing time. The fee for the club will be $100. Checks should be made out to the Waddell PTSA and are payable in two installments. Financial aid will be available. Funds are used to cover the cost of snacks, chess workbook sheets, instruction with National Masters, entry fees for team tournaments and end-of-year parties. Waddell Chess Club T-shirts and tournament sets can be purchased separately. Transportation is not available for students. It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to pick up children at the end of each session, no later than 4:45. Please keep that in mind as all adults will be leaving the premises as well. Please complete the form and return it with your child to the first chess club meeting. K-1 students will need to bring the form after they have been evaluated (assume that your child has a green light unless you hear otherwise) and they are certain they would like to remain in the club for the remainder of the year.
