The most interesting result(s) from the Part 1 Activity

(the ASU Activity)

• We found these results…there are a lot of craters and river beds on mars.

• We found these results by doing….we looked at the shadow of the feature, and then looked were the sun was, and that told us if the feature was above or below ground.

• We used these methods to get that result….on the picture we have, there is a long, what we believe to be, a river bed.

• We found these interesting results…gullies, craters, rock features, and riverbeds.

• We found these results by…looking at pictures from the HiRise data at different magnitudes.

• We used these methods to get the result…that there must have been water on mars at some point in time to form some of these features.

More Results from the Part 2 Activity (with the HiRise Data)

• Pretty much everything we could see from the pictures on mars looked like something on earth.

• The only thing that that looked a little different was that there was red dirt everywhere an lots of creators in some places. We have both those features on Earth, just not as much as there is on Mars. There was also lots of gullies and what looked to be river beds, witch we have a lot of on earth. The tall mountains also looks like some places on Earth.

More Results from the Part 2 Activity (with the HiRise Data)

• We found it interesting how close the pictures from space could get to the ground. It was way easier to tell apart the features with nice clear photos, close to the ground.

Next Steps

• Would your region of Mars be a good place to land? Why? Why not? Yes, we think it work be a good place to land because there are plenty of features to explore.

• What kind of features would you want to know more about if you could choose a landing site? Why? We would probable choice a landing site around a very large volcano, to see why it is so big for a planet of it’s size.

• What would your criteria be for selecting a landing site? Why? We would choice a flat area to land our rover, to prevent damage of the rover.

• For instance, there are science goals and engineering goals for sending a mission like this to Mars. What would yours be and why? Our science goal would be to bring as much stuff from Mars back to Earth as possible. Our engineering goals would be to make a large vehicle that can carry back rocks and sample back to earth, and last a very long time on Mars.

• If we had the chance we would like to explore the river beds of Mars. We really want to know if there is water, or was water on mars. What we would use to explore the surface is right below.
