COMMUNION RAIL OFFERING AIM was founded in 1987 by
Church Women United, the
Alabama Prison Project,
the Alabama Department of
Correc#ons and volunteers, when
it was discovered that there were
women in prison who never saw
their children. AIM's founders
recognized that children of
incarcerated parents needed
contact with their mothers yet
couldn't because their guardians
were unwilling or unable to take
them to see their mothers. AIM
separated from Alabama Prison
Project and became an
independent nonprofit agency.
With a strong statewide volunteer
network, AIM con#nues to
provide monthly visits for children
to reunite with their mothers. The
visita#on programs has been the
focus of the agency since the
beginning, but through con#nued
volunteer support more programs
have been implemented. The
services include monthly
storybook #me, summer camp for
the kids, family outreach
programs, birthday and Christmas
gi,s for families and classes for
the mothers in prison. The
services are extended to mothers
at Tutwiler Prison, Tutwiler Annex,
Birmingham Work Release and the
Montgomery Community Based
Facility.
AIM helps the mothers reenter
society through a transi#onal
home. Of the women coming
through the home only 11%
return to prison compared to the
23% recidivism rate of women
who have not gone through AIM's
programs.
Please give to the communion rail
on Sunday, July 7th
