LESSON: When we fall out of our relationship with God and our participation in the life of the church, we feel the resistance of achieving our goal of growing closer to Christ. If we have as much sense as a goose, we will join in formations with those who are headed where we want to go. Mathew 7:14 “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it.” FACT: When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies at the point position. They stay with this member of the flock until he or she is either able to fly again or dies. Then they launch out on their own, with another formation, or catch up with their own flock. A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Church Family, Last week my atten-tion was drawn to the sky when I heard the honking of a large flock of Canada geese. In 1972 an article titled “Lessons Learned From Canada Geese” was written by Dr. Robert McNeish of Baltimore. Dr. McNeish was a science teacher who was intrigued with observ-ing geese for years. He first shared his observations in a sermon he preached at his church. God’s Holy Word often uses the wonders of nature to teach us facts about life and our relation-ships in the body of Christ. Ecclesiastes 4: 13 “A threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Ephesians 4:11-12

LESSON: When we fall out of

our relationship with God and our participation in the life of the church, we feel the resistance of achieving our goal of growing closer to Christ. If we have as much sense as a goose, we will join in formations with those who are headed where we want to go. Churches do a won-derful job caring for grieving people in the immediate days fol-lowing the death of a

loved one; meals, cards, flowers are sent. The pastor is directly involved with those who have lost loved ones before and after the funeral. But grievers need more and that’s why we offer 13 weeks of support

April Schedule Apr 7 - Grief Share meeting at the

church - 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Apr 12 - Grief Share dinner at Lion’s

General Conference apportioned fund. It provides the basic financial resources for our denomination’s global mission and ministry, and is allocated to the program agencies and certain other ministries of The United Methodist Church. According to 812 in The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, full payment of the World Service Fund apportionment is the first benevolent responsibility of the Church. World Service supports a network of United Methodist mission personnel who serve in the name of Christ locally and around the world. Other ways that the World Service Fund makes a difference in our expression of the Christian faith include: • Strengthens evangelism efforts, stimu-

lates church growth, expands Bible stud-ies, and nurtures spiritual development;

• Supports specific local church work with children, youth, singles, students, adults,

older persons, and persons who are mentally and physically challenged;

• Encourages youth advocacy, empower-ment, and outreach;

• Enriches congregational life with worship resources, leader training, and steward-ship development;

• Continues a tradition of commitment to quality higher education in partnership with United Methodist schools, colleges, universities, and campus ministries;

• Helps strengthen the black church; • Helps United Methodists work toward a

more ethical, just, and humane world; • Promotes a Church and society that are

truly inclusive; • Gives our denomination an important

media presence by funding the Igniting Ministry Media Campaign, a campaign designed to proclaim the gospel by com-municating the basic beliefs of The Unit-ed Methodist Church.

General Administration Fund

BETTER TOGETHER One of the most effective ways the United Methodist Church makes disciples for Je-sus Christ around the world is through our support of the Shares of Ministry. The Shares of Ministry, or apportionments, consists of seven General Conference apportioned funds: Episcopal, World Ser-vice, General Administration, Interdenomi-national Cooperation, Ministerial Educa-tion, Black College, and Africa University. Winterstown UMC’s portion of these funds for 2016 is $36,208 or approximately $697.00 a week. In 2015 we paid only five percent of our Shares of Ministry. Failure to meet our obligation through Shares of Ministry can affect the appointment of a full-time pastor and the ability to apply for various ministry grants. The General Con-ference apportioned funds enable our local churches to join hands and make a signifi-cance difference in the lives of all God’s people. The World Service Fund is the largest

“FAITH AND FAMILY AT THE BALLPARK”

Mark your calendars now for, Satur-day, June 18 - Celebrate Father’s day weekend at the York Revolu-tion baseball game. We will be at-tending this game with our Growing Friends day care families. Prior to the game, there will be faith cele-bration and fireworks after the

game as well.

Pointing out the enclosure’s door-less en-trance, Bishop asked why a wolf wouldn’t just enter there. Because, replied the vil-lager, “that’s where the shepherd sleeps;

the shepherd is the door.”

Suddenly Bishop understood why in John 10 Jesus calls himself first the door, or gate, for the sheep and then the Good Shepherd. Because Jesus is the shepherd, he’s also the door that keeps us, his

sheep, safe within his care.

A SHEPHERD’S ROLE While traveling in Iran, writer Eric Bishop asked a villager about an earthen enclo-sure topped with dry thorns. The man said sheep stayed in the round space at night for safety. “What are the thorns for?” Bish-op asked. “If a wolf tries to break in and attack the sheep,” the man replied, “he’ll knock against the thorns, and they’ll make a noise, and the shepherd will wake up and

drive off the wolf.”

NEWS AND NOTES

Staff Parish Relations Committee: Cory stated that Amy Smith and Lorrie Yodzis are being changed from hourly rate to sala-ried. Dick asked Corey what are the office hours. Outreach: Jay Beaver said that care pack-ages were sent to collage and military members. Dig In is scheduled for April 23, 2016. The Easter Egg Hunt is March 26, 2016. The baseball game and Vacation Bible School is scheduled for June. Nurture: Bill Lowe said the Church Directo-ries are in and are available to new mem-bers. Any one requesting an additional copy will pay $10.00. Growing Friends: Patty Gingrich said that the Day Care now employs 18 people, there are openings in the Pre School Program, and the annual state inspection will be this month. The Director, Abby Streett went to Daycare Conference, and she came back with many ideas. One thing that other churches do that we do not do, is they are doing little things for the teachers and the parents. Ann McGinnis said that her com-mittee is working on a new Welcome Pack-age that can be given out to the parents. Finance: Diana Bertling said that the church finances are very good. A motion was made by Kenton McGinnis Jr. to take $20,000 out of the Capital Fund and make an emergen-cy fund, and the remaining $32,000 to be invested with the Church Conference. Amy Smith can request from the Leadership Team to use emergency funds for large unexpected bills. These expenses are to be repaid to the emergency fund. Dick Daugh-erty 2nd. Jay Beaver made a motion to take $5,000 from the endowment fund and add it

Those in attendance were Gabe Hildebrand, Jay Beaver, Bill Lowe, Patty Gingrich, Dick Daugherty, Pat Beck, Ann Daugherty, Corey

Grove, Pastor Galloway, Kenton McGinnis Jr., Ann McGinnis, and Diana Bertling. Corey Grove opened the meeting at 2:00 p.m. with prayer. Pastor Mitch: Part one of the book Simple Church is the process. How do you focus on new people to the church to help them with their spiritual growth? What is our plan? Do we have a plan? How do you make a plan? Minutes from Jan. 10, 2016 were approved by Dick Daugherty and 2nd by Jay Beaver. Trustees: Dick Daugherty said the Trustees will be responsible for coming up with a Church Usage Agreement. This agreement will be signed by any group or individual when the church is reserved for usage. The phone and internet issues are being worked on, and the Trustees are getting quotes. The Fire Alarm system is now at 100%. Simplex needs to come out and test it. A monitoring system needs to be installed due to insurance purposes. The new phone system needs to be in place before that can happen, and the Trustees are also getting quotes for this. The Department of the Envi-ronment sent us a letter stating that our main test was not done in 2015 and our results were unsatisfactory. Now we will be tested twice a year. Dick Daugherty will find out what needs to be done to correct this problem.

to the $32,000 for investment. Dick Daugh-erty 2nd. Shining Light: Pat Beck said the Shining Light Ministries gave away $13,000 and merchandise last year. Starting with the sale this March 18 – 19, Shining Light will hold back 25% of sales to budget for future rental space or build a building on church property. They are now at 4,200 sq. ft. They need at least 10,000 sq. ft. Shining Light has been looking for other spaces to rent because they cannot serve any more people than they do now with the space they are working out of. Missions: Ann McGinnis said the commit-tee’s first priority was to start documenting how many small groups/organizations are in our church. They referenced them as Inter-nal and External groups as well identified communication channels 39 internal groups and 20 external groups were documented. Point of contacts for each of these groups is being researched. These are known as the stakeholders in the communication plan. We also identified 19 communication chan-nels. We are currently working on: The children’s newsletter, WUMC highlighted in the LINK, expand newsletter list, create welcome packets, Liturgist training, update for website, research for an electronic bulle-tin board for announcements and schedules to be placed in the Narthex, and the next steps for the communication team. No old business. No new business. Pastor Mitch: There will be a Maundy Thursday service, and he is working on the Easter Services. Pastor lead prayer and the meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted, Diana Bertling

Don’t Forget this month to bring in your Pennies for the UM Home for Children, your can tabs, Box Tops, Food for the Food Pantry, and we always have Giant and Jerry’s Gift cards for sale in the office.

THANK YOUS TO THE CONGREGATION Dear Winter-stown UMW, Thank you for the gift of Labels for Education!

Campbell’s offers so many wonderful prod-ucts that you gift of labels will save us thousands of dollars on products for the children. We are well on our way to saving for a new van in the next ten years. We can’t do it without you. We currently have 386,000 labels in the bank. Please keep those la-bels coming! On behalf of all the staff of Neighborhood Center, thank you for your help.

Dear Friends from Winter-stown Church and Shining Light Ministries, On Behalf of Mission Cen-tral, I want to thank you for

SR youth will again be par-ticipating in the MS Walk Sunday morning April 17th. If you wish to sponsor our youth let them know. SR Youth will be doing the 30 Hour Famine, April 22 & 23. We will be fasting to raise funds for hungry chil-

dren in our world. They are dying everyday

of starvation and from preventable diseas-es caused by starvation. We need prayer warriors to pray for our teens as they go 30 hours without food. A sign up sheet is on the youth bulletin board. Also a sheet to sign up and come and join us as we break our fast with a covered dish dinner at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Our teens need spon-sors, so see them.

SR Youth has given a Big Screen TV for the All Purpose Room. We also had Bob Arse-

nault build a TV Stand for it. Thanks Bob, Great Job!

Thank you so much to this won-derful, loving, supportive church

family, without your generosity through donations, prep work, helping the day of the event and prayers, the Easter Egg Hunt this year would not have been as successful as it was. A special thank you to the Easter Egg hunt committee mem-bers Jay and Lori Beaver, Barry and Pat Beck, Dick and Ann Daugherty, Jana Beth Lowe and Tina Mann for helping to organ-ize and all your hard work to prepare for the day of the event. Thank you again!!
