Day 1 UK – St. Petersburg Return flights from the UK are included in the price of your holiday. You will be met at the airport and transferred to MS Rossia, where a warm welcome awaits you from your captain and crew.

Founded in the 18th century by Peter the Great, St. Petersburg was once the imperial capital of the Russian Empire. Ornate Baroque palaces lining the streets appear to be suspended in time, and centuries of revolution are weaved into the UNESCO World Heritage-listed historic district.

Day 2 St. Petersburg The history of this illustrious city is yours to explore during a guided tour today, including many of St. Petersburg’s main highlights. Venture along one of the city’s most famous streets, Nevsky Prospekt, passing iconic structures such as the neoclassical National Library of Russia and the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, a unique example of medieval Russian architecture with a colourful five-domed façade.

Tonight, attend a welcome reception hosted by your captain on board.

Day 3 St. Petersburg Today, an abundance of art and culture is yours to discover with a visit to the Hermitage Museum. Founded by Catherine the Great, this complex of six historic buildings is one of the largest art museums in the world.

A guided tour will enable you to explore different time periods and cultures as you peruse ancient Roman sculptures, mementos of traditional Asian theatre and the works of legendary artists, including Picasso, Matisse and Leonardo da Vinci. The portrait gallery of the Romanov dynasty is perhaps the most impressive collection, adorning the walls of what was once their official residence, the Winter Palace.

Kizhi Yaroslavl

Day 5 Mandrogi Gracing the banks of the Svir River, Mandrogi is a postcard-worthy representation of life in pre-revolutionary Russia. Traditional houses are adorned with colourful façades and intricate woodwork. Your free time in the village will showcase the studios of artisans who are happy to demonstrate their crafts, including the creation of famous matryoshka dolls.

This afternoon is yours to explore at leisure, perhaps visiting the Vodka Museum.

Day 6 Kizhi Enjoy cruising on the second largest lake in Europe this morning, before arriving at Kizhi. The small island is a national open-air museum, housing dozens of historical wooden structures. While wooden architecture is prominent across Russia, Kizhi contains some of the best-preserved examples of expert carpenters pushing their craft to its limit.

Your included guided tour of the island includes a visit to Kizhi Pogost, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site featuring two 12th-century churches and an octagonal bell tower.

Day 7 Goritsy A medieval atmosphere waits to welcome you to Goritsy, a tranquil town that has been generously peppered with monasteries.

Today’s included tour will take you to the doorstep of one of the most famous monasteries in Russia, the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. Legend has it that Cyril of Beloozero founded the monastery in his search

for a remote place to become closer to God, but it prospered as a refuge for nobility during the Time of Troubles.

Day 8 Yaroslavl Yaroslavl can be found on the confluence of the mighty Volga and Kotorosl rivers. Yaroslav the Wise founded this ancient city, and the current coat of arms featuring a bear carrying an axe tells his story.

A guided tour of Yaroslavl will introduce you to the town’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed historic centre, once a major point of trade. Later, visit the Church of St. Ilya the Prophet and witness the beauty of its delicately restored 17th-century frescoes.

Day 9 Uglich Your day will start with a visit to Uglich; a postcard-worthy town nestled on the banks of the Volga River. This area is famous for its ancient churches, several of which can be seen from the water.

Your included tour will introduce you to some fantastic examples of Russian architecture, including the Cathedral of Transfiguration with its octagonal stone bell tower and the Church of St. Dmitry on the Blood, a building that has stood since the Romanov Tsars made Uglich a place of pilgrimage following the Time of Troubles.

Tonight, your captain will welcome you back on board for a delightful farewell dinner.

Day 10 Moscow Welcome to Moscow, an artistic metropolis with a history that spans almost a millennia and a plethora of landmarks that are recognisable around the world. A guided tour of the city will introduce you to all of its main highlights, including the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Red Square, with its many surrounding architectural marvels.

Gaze at the beauty of St Basil’s Cathedral, nestled in the middle of a symmetrical star of eight chapels, and the Baroque State Historical Museum, home to ancient relics from prehistoric Russia and artwork that once belonged to the Romanovs.

Day 11 Moscow Immerse yourself in Moscow’s rich history today with a visit to the Kremlin Grounds. Overlooking St. Basil’s Cathedral and the Red Square, this UNESCO World Heritage-listed site was the centre point for many of Russia’s defining moments. Witness the ornate beauty of the Assumption Cathedral, where tsars were crowned, and the gold-adorned domes of the Ivan the Great Bell Tower Complex.

You’ll then visit to the State Armoury, currently home to the Russian Diamond Fund, and peruse exhibits that include items from the tsars’ personal treasury, from 12th-century armour to detailed coronation dresses.

This afternoon, visit the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics to learn about Soviet space exploration.
