BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETYAISD students head back to school on Monday, August 24. We appreciate your help in keeping our students and families safe by utilizing these driving practices:

After over a year of protests from Westcreek and continuances from the owner and his agent, the property at 6110 Hill Forest was changed back to single-family, low-density zoning in the Oak Hill FLUM (Future Land Use Map). At the City Council Meeting on July 23rd, the City Council finally heard the item again. Mr. Mickey Bentley (the owner’s representative) had requested another continuance based on the owner’s (Mr. Bomar’s) health. (The previous hearing was continued due to Mr. Bentley being ill.) ways:.through.root.grafts.connecting.nearby.oaks,.and.by.insects.that.carry.spores.of.the.fungus.from.one.tree.to.another..Roots.of.oaks. form.natural.grafts.with. roots.of. adjacent.oaks.of. the. same.species.up.to.50.feet.apart...Root.grafts.link.together.the.vascular.systems.of.the.trees,. forming.a.common.network.through.which.the.oak.wilt.fungus.can.move..Root.graft.transmission.is.a.proven.means.of.spread.from.one.live.oak.to.another..However,.root.grafts.rarely.occur.between.oaks.of.different.species..The.oak.wilt.fungus.can.survive.for.at.least.three.years.in.the.root.systems.of.oaks.killed.by.the.disease.and.can.be.drawn.through.root.grafts.to.nearby.trees.throughout.that.time..Root.graft.transmission.can.spread.the.disease.outward.from.an.initial.infected.tree.to.kill.all.the.same-species.oaks.in.a.stand..As.a.result,.patches.of.dead.and.dying.trees.(infection.centers). are. formed.. . Infection. centers. among. live. oaks. in.Texas.expand.at.an.average.rate.of.75.feet.per.year,.varying.from.no.spread.to.150.feet.in.any.one.direction...

Spores.produced.on.infected.trees.also.spread.oak.wilt..Red.oaks.play.a.key.role.in.the.establishment.of.new.infection.centers...Fungal.mats.form.beneath.the.bark.of.certain.diseased.red.oaks.in.late.fall.and.especially.in.spring,.but.do.not.form.on.live.oaks...Fungal.mats.are.most.commonly. formed.on.standing. trees,.but. they.can.also.develop.on.logs,.stumps,.and.fresh.firewood.cut.from.diseased.red.oaks...Individual.fungal.mats.produce.spores.for.only.a.few.weeks..The.fruity.odor.of.fungal.mats.attracts.many.kinds.of.sap-feeding.insects,.the.most.important.of.which.are.believed.to.be.oak.bark.beetles...Sticky.spores.of.the.fungus,.which.develop.on.the.mycelial.mats,.become.attached.to.the.beetles...Although.oak.bark.beetles.do.not.require.open.wounds.to.transmit.the.fungus,.the.beetles.may.fly.to.other.oak.trees.and.feed.on.the.sap.flow.from.fresh.wounds.on.healthy.trees,.both.red.oaks.and.live.oaks,.transmitting.spores.of.the.oak.wilt.fungus..In.this.way,.oak.wilt.may.be.spread.over.distances.of.at.least.several.hundred.feet...Oaks.are.particularly.susceptible.to.wound. infections. in. spring.and.summer,.when.sap.flow.from.wounds.is.greatest.
