Travelling a Route

As you start travelling, Gokivo Navigator shows a map with your current location and the next turn in your route. The map continuously updates to show the progress of your trip to your destination. Navigational icons show the type of navigational maneuver you need to make to get on the next road and the remaining distance.

If you set your preferences to include audio navigation, you hear voice instructions or a tone as you approach the next step in your route. You can change your navigational preferences as you travel by selecting options from Menu. The two screen shots shown above are 3D and 2D map views of the same route that can be selected as Menu options.

The window shows your route overlaid on the roads to your destination. Yellow arrows indicate route maneuvers and turns that you need to make to get on the next road. The name of the current road you are travelling on appears immediately beneath the navigation map and the name of the upcoming road appears in the header area above the map.

A traffic bar shows current traffic conditions on the upcoming roads of your route. A green bar indicates very little if any delays caused by traffic incidents or congestion. The color of the traffic bar transitions from green to amber to red as your route experiences more traffic delays. The example of a navigation map above shows an incident icon. You can get a detour around congestion by selecting the Detour Menu option.

Conducting Searches

With Find, users can search for businesses or other points of interest (POI) near a specified location. The Find feature is a single search tool to find POIs, movies, events, addresses, and airports.

Users can also use Find to request roadside assistance as a paid service from Verizon Wireless Roadside Assistance when experiencing problems while travelling.

Selecting Businesses or Other Points of Interest

Selecting Businesses or Other Points of Interest

VZ Navigator includes the Places feature to find businesses and places of interest (POIs) such as restaurants, gas stations, or ATMs in a specific area. A typical example of using Places is searching for the nearest gas station when you realize your car is low on fuel during a trip in an unfamiliar area.

VZ Navigator groups POIs into categories. For example, you can search for all restaurants in an area by selecting the Restaurants & Bars category from Places. Some POI categories have subcategories to make your search more precise. You can select the Italian subcategory from the Restaurants & Bars category to show only Italian restaurants in your search results. See Appendix A on page 51 for a complete list of POIs.

After a finishing a Places search, VZ Navigator shows a list of all POIs that met your search criteria. You can select an item from the search results list and create a map that shows the location and get directions to it from your current location.

To select a POI with Places

1. Select Find from the VZ Navigator main menu.

2. Select Places from the Find window to show a list of POI categories.

All is the default category indicated by the green check mark at the right of the field. Categories identified with a right arrow ( > ) include subcategories.

3. Select a listed category containing subcategories ( > ).

The Places window updates and shows the subcategories for the POI category you selected.

4. Select to select a subcategory from the list. A green check mark appears next to the selected category.

Getting More Information About Selected POIs

Getting More Information About Selected POIs

VZ Navigator search results lists show the details for three different types of POIs:

Premium Placement POIs

Enhanced POIs

Standard POIs

The following search results list shows examples of all three types of POIs.

A Premium placement POI always appears as the first POI in the search results list and does not necessarily match the exact search criteria. In the example above, a Mexican restaurant Premium Placement POI is listed in the search results list for Indian restaurants. If there is a premium placement POI displayed in the search results list, the next POI in the list is selected, not the premium placement POI. The Premium Placement always appears as the top item on the first results page.

An enhanced POI is identified by a green icon that appears in the search results list. An enhanced POI provides much more detail about the POI itself than a standard POI. The detail window provides options to navigate, map, and share the POI location. The detail window also includes an option that shows the POI location on the map.
