Your V!VA Community Newsletter April 2014 Girls Inc. We had a pyjama party with our friends from Girls Inc. where we made appreciation cards for all of the Community Members who stopped in to help. We sang songs, made treats and had a great time. Pie Eating Contest: We had our first ever Team Member pie eating contest, with four contestants battling it out for first place. With 2 pies each made up of pudding, cherry filling and whipped cream, the contestants had to eat them without the use of their hands. The first one to finish both pies was crowned the winner. Matt was our wonderful host, who got the audience to cheer for their favourite contestant, and Team Members also watched on and cheered as well. It was messy, it was funny and it was tasty, and the winner was Kivann from Food and Beverage! St. Patrick’s DayOur St. Patrick’s Day party was a great success – we all had so much fun!

V!VA Pickering surprised our Community Members with Celtic Dancers from the Gilchrist Celtic Dance Club. The girls performed different styles of Celtic dancing including both soft and hard shoe dances. We enjoyed traditional Irish music, green beer, and spread the joy all around!

Team Member AppreciationThis month we celebrated Team Member Appreciation Day with an afternoon of music, treats, and kind words about our wonderful Team Members. We enjoyed a musical performance by Sonny, homemade cheesecake, and Community Members had the opportunity to recognize the Team Members for all their hard work.

Historical PresentationsThis month we invited historical educator Lianne Harris to treat us to an entertaining performance about the history of Ireland. Complete with costumes, she tickled our imaginations as well as taught us all about the history or Ireland and its people. Lianne will be joining us this month for a presentation entitled “The Vikings” where she will wear costumes and takes us on a journey through the “Dark Ages” of history.

My Time To Give Volunteer FairTuesday, April 8, 2014 at 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

In April, V!VA Pickering will be hosting our first My Time To Give Volunteer Fair. Think of this as a job fair for volunteers! Students, seniors and people of all ages are invited to search for their perfect volunteer opportunity!

Exhibitor booths will be stationed throughout our community. The fair is open to the public and will include local community organizations, businesses, non-profit organizations and health care organizations. We will also have guest presenters speaking about the benefits of volunteerism!

Bring your friends and family, and see how you can make a difference in Pickering!
